Nope, wasn't joking and stand by my statement. Also disagree with most of what you state. If you will read what I said and you quoted, "good health." Not going to get into the specifics as I really don't want to write a lengthy text, but given good health I believe the only position really needing work is catcher...as I said previously.

Considering the only teams still playing are AA and AAA, amazing that we are talking about two players from this year's draft having great games. I remain so hopeful that Lee is that special player. Sure seems to be with a 3 hit game in what, his second AA game? And I don't know what to think about Shuffield? Don't understand what he is doing at AAA and why he is hitting as well as he is? If this is who he is, what the heck was he doing not getting drafted until the 10th round?

Will second rv78's comments above. Ryan is proving to be a quality front of the rotation starter. Ober sure appears to be another quality starter who will fit nicely into the third or fourth spot in a rotation. Add Gray, Mahle and Maeda and that's five. Toss in Winder and Varland as either long relief or pitching in reserve at St. Paul and you have a fine starting staff. Granted, there isn't an ACE, but really most teams don't have that ACE. Lots of decisions will need to be made elsewhere. Where to get one more top late reliever would sure top my list. Believe in Moran and hopefully, Alcala can come back strong. But they still need one more late inning guy. Isn't much needed in the field that won't be fixed by good health. Should Wallner continue hitting like his first weekend, will have a huge question what to do at the corner outfield spots. Would be fearful to trade Kepler as the rule change just MIGHT lead to him becoming that special player many of us have hoped for. But what do you do with Kepler, Larnach, Kirilloff and Wallner on the same team? Maybe a good problem to have. So that leaves catcher, where there is lots of work to get better.

Interesting moves. Love the Lee promotion. Pushing him this fast sure doesn’t seem to fit the Twins SOP? Tell me Matt, is Rucker a legit prospect. Is he someone who could help the Twins in the future? Especially with Miranda likely a fixture at third the next 6+ years?

Expect we all will be watching the first three. Meanwhile, would be great if one of the lesser known pitchers finds lightening in a bottle and shines.

What Happened to Jorge Lopez?

Interesting. Should be interesting to see what the new pitching coach will do in 2023. That's assuming there is a new coach.- 11 replies

Exciting seeing both comebacks for the A ball clubs. Now let's get two wins tonight. Was excited when the Twins drafted Cavaco. That was before the past two seasons led to a lot of disappointment. Isn't setting the world on fire this year, but has taken a big step forward. Maybe, just maybe there is more in the tank and he is able to develop into a solid big league player. Seems that Julien has a multi-hit game almost every night. Love that kid. What is interesting is that Severino is hitting close to .300 at Wichita. Will the more than $2M the Twins have invested in him be the reason he gets added to the 40-man? Do any of the TD insiders have any thoughts on his future?

What a great start by Festa. And the best news is that the Twins don't have to put him on the 40-man. Also great seeing Miller with his first multi-hit game in awhile, at least that I can remember. And what a night from Severino. Only problem is with Helman, Julien, and Lee can the Twins afford to give him a spot on the 40-man. With his reputation tied to two huge bonuses, will someone take a chance in the Rule 5 if he is available? Curious what those of you at TD who are closer to management think about the likelihood of his being added and/or selected if not.

Minnesota’s Other Breakout Pitching Prospect
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Will second Dman's question. Will he be added to the 40-man to protect him from the Rule 5. If not, will he be gone? -
What’s Next for Twins Manager Rocco Baldelli?
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article in today's Strib. Talks about the Twins really lost this season in late June versus Cleveland. Refers to five games in which they had late leads and the bullpen blew all five. The name that stood out in four of the five was Pagan. Yes, the front office brought him in, but Rocco kept sending him out there day-after-day. I am old and I want change, lots of change. Certainly most of the coaching staff and preferably the manager. Maybe also the front office, although I like most of their moves this year. My final grade on them will be if they have the guts to cut bait with their entire coaching staff and Rocco. Would love to see Watkins remain with the Twins, just not as their third base coach. And I see a 2023 team that can/should be very good. Really don't want to have to watch another season of Rocco managing it to a .500 team.- 67 replies

In the End, the 2022 Twins Never Stood a Chance
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well written, Nick, as are the many comments disagreeing with you. After the wonderful start to this season, is disappointing to be where we are today. There is nothing wrong with wanting to see the Twins have another nice playoff run. But for guys my age, we don't have that many seasons remaining for this to happen. So for me, I want change...lots of change. And I want it to start at the top and go thru the entire coaching staff. Come on Jim Pohlad, rather than being disappointed get p.....ed off and make some changes. A lot of us old guys want to have a fun October, at least once more.- 95 replies

I hear your concern, DSL44, and share it. But I don't know if it makes sense to change players. Sure wouldn't want to trade Buxton. Rather, they need to build better depth so that when player X goes down for whatever length they have someone more capable to step in. For examples, as much as we were excited about Celestino the first month or so that he was playing regularly, he has proven to not be as good over the entire season. Maybe a good 5th outfielder, but we need a #4 outfielder who is better and can play center.
-
Well written, Nick. I too am looking ahead, but to 2023. And what I see looks good, very good. Don't see a need for a lot of changes, other than good health to a lot of players. Maybe a little tinkering with a massive change in the dugout to the manager and coaching staff, ie, total change. Have a wonderful winter, Nick.

Brooks Lee's Stock is Already Rising
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
When I was much younger, I watched my Brewers draft a young high school shortstop who was with the team the next year. That was the beginning of Robin Yount’s Hall of Fame career. Someday some team will draft a young man who will be the next Yount. Yes, Lee isn’t an 18 year old pick. But why can’t it be the Twins who get this special player? And why can’t he be Brooks Lee? -
Curious what you heard about AK? I have seen nothing at any blog nor in the Strib? Will disagree as I see this team as being good, with reasonable health. And yes, I expect Paddack to be back by the trade deadline and Lewis to be on the field by June 1, playing like he did briefly this year.

Yes, this year is over. But I see a team that could be very good next year. So much depends on getting Maeda, Alcala, Buxton, Kirilloff, Larnach, Royce Lewis, and Paddack back healthy. And their staying healthy for 162 games, all except Paddack who should return mid-season. Yes, add those players to the lineup and rotation and this team can compete. As much as we all are disappointed, the injuries have been beyond anyone’s expectations.

The Twins are not a good baseball team right now. But what should we expect when the lineup, and pitching staff, is half AAAA type players. We lead the league in players on the IL, perhaps biggest question should be why? Time to sit back, watch three minor league teams in the playoffs and get ready for spring training.

The Twins Top Prospects in 2024 Will Be...
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Agree that Brooks Lee will be with the Twins come 2024, so no longer a prospect. Assume by 2024, you mean the beginning of the 2024 season? Will disagree with Prielipp. I believe he is going to be the Twins version of Chris Sale and he joins the Twins late next summer and will no longer be a prospect come 2024. That's right. Prielipp is going to be our Chris Sale and Lee will be our Robin Yount. Yes, my glasses have rose colored lens.- 23 replies

Minor League Recap (9/9): Balazovic Back On Track
roger replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
As the season comes to an end, isn't it fantastic seeing Balazovic pitch like we expected? Hopefully, this will carry him thru the winter and he will get off to a good start at AAA next spring and be ready to move up to the Twins come June or July. Really liked the Raya pick when they drafted him in the COVID draft. Like him more this morning. Will disagree with the above comments about Lee. I see him as the Twins version of Robin Yount. That means he will begin 2023 at AA and join the Twins by August 1. The rest will be history.- 18 replies

Twins 4, Yankees 3: Fourth Time's the Charm
roger replied to David Youngs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A win is a win is a win! But this team is not a good team right now. I guess with four or five starters AAAA type players, that should be expected. But what happened to learning the fundamentals before reaching AAA? I have noticed before that Celestino made T-ball type mistakes on the bases. Not taking third on the passed ball was another, then followed by getting doubled off second on a routine flyball to left. And Hamilton's only role on this team is as an emergency catcher. Don't know why he pinch runs for Sanchez, cause then we no longer have an emergency catcher. And if that is his main role, to get picked off is a cardinal sin. Think Palacios also made a mistake earlier, but it was so early I lost track what it was. Add Sanchez not blocking Lopez' wild pitch and there were too many mistakes by the home town 9. Kind of the reason they have been mediocre at best the last couple months.- 32 replies

Another day, another multiple mentions of Helman doing something. Was 2-4 with 2 walks and a run scored and 2 driven in. Julien was only 3-4. Both these guys are fast, fast, fast and they keep moving up a level and nothing changes. And then there is Brooks Lee, 1-2 with 3 walks, who has only been playing for what, a month, and already should be moving up a level. Gotta love this trio, who together with Lewis should give the Twins lots to choose from when filling out their middle infield in 2023 and beyond.

Must disagree with your comment that the Twins aren't going to spend prospect capital for a top notch pitcher. Isn't that exactly what they did in acquiring Gray and Mahle. Gray certainly is a front of the rotation starter and I remember several/many commenters here ragging on the Twins to go out at this deadline and get someone with many mentions of Mahle. Will agree with those that believe Maeda shouldn't be in this discussion and that the guy from San Francisco who's name I prefer to forget flat out lied about his injury. Did he lie to the Giants also, we will never know. On the flip side every fifth morning when I read the Strib over coffee I keep seeing some guy named Montgomery pitch 6, 7 or more innings for the Cardinals with anywhere from 0-2 runs allowed. Learned that they traded for him from the Yankees at this deadline. And although I know nothing about the guy they gave the Yankees, he doesn't seem like that big of a stud. Matter of fact, kind of mediocre from his numbers. Is it really more luck than anything when making these deals hours before the deadline when you can't spend too much time on things like getting to know the guy or even investigating injuries?

How Dire is the Twins Catching Situation?
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Sanchez was good defensively, you could live with his bat. Same for Jeffers. But as it stands, the catching situation is the #1 problem for the Twins looking to 2023 and beyond. And the fix doesn't appear to be there in the minors, at least the high minors where someone might be available come next year. Love Isola's bat,s but can he play D? Hopefully, they will take some of the #35.1M they will save if Correa walks and use it behind the plate. Unfortunately, some have indicated previously that there isn't a lot available in this winter's free agent market. Does it have to be a trade? Will agree with the above comment, wouldn't it be great if the Yankees DFA's Rortvedt and he found his way back to Minnesota?- 36 replies

Sad to see that Anthony Escobar was released. I remember back when he was what, a 17 year old playing his first season in the DSL. Put up numbers I don't recall ever seeing, from a Twins pitcher, over all the years watching these minor league kids. And Edward Julien gets 2 hits, again. I don't know what the future holds, but there has to be some way to get this young man into future Twins plans. Noticed the above disappointment about Enlow. Let's remember guys (and gals) that he began his year mid-season coming back from TJ surgery. Pitching in games is a win, a big win, and the results don't matter. Should he not have success in 2023, then it will be time to worry.
