  1. I continue to be amazed when I read comments suggesting the Twins trade Arraez. He is the best hitter the Twins have had since Joe Mauer. Many from the organization compare him to Carew. A generational talent, yet move him out for a catcher, or whomever.
  2. I believe he is out of options, so unless it is a rehab assignment, he ain’t going to AAA. Found it interesting that the three players with the lowest WPA didn’t include Gordon, yet his error lost the game. Guess another reason to question that stats validity.
  3. I see too many comments declaring the likelihood that AK may never play again. It is true that his surgery isn’t common for baseball players. But that doesn’t mean it can’t work. Don’t know how many doctors we have here today, but maybe one can offer some insight. The truth is WE don’t know anything about this surgery. But we aren’t the patient or the Twins. what is fact is that many people believed AK to be one of the best hitters in all of the minor leagues before his injury. Didn’t he have the second best stats to that superstar now playing for Toronto? So what we do know is this kid was a very special talent. I am willing to wait until spring training when we will know how he is doing before declaring his career is over.
  4. Want to second something jm referred to above. That is that Urshela is on fire as he closes out a wonderful year. I don't have a clue what his defensive numbers are, but to my old eyes the kid plays fantastic defense. All the easy balls are outs along with a lot of really tough plays. His arm is 100% accurate. Add his bat that is closing out the season with very nice numbers and we have an excellent player who I believe is under contract for next year. He is, isn't he? That would put Miranda at first base most of the time next year with Luis filling in at first, second and DH. Toss in AK as a first baseman/corner outfielder and the Twins have excellent depth at the four corners.
  5. Add me to Doc Gast' bandwagon. I want Luis to win the batting title. No disrespect to Judge or anyone else, I want our guy to win it.
  6. Thanks to all of you for another fantastic season of reporting to keep us up to date on what is happening down on the farm. Having three of four full season teams in the playoffs was a success, a HUGE success. Hopefully, those young men who delivered this success will continue to improve and bring that success to the Twins...beginning next year.
  7. There was a quote from Paddack in today's Strib. He said this rehab was going a bit slower than his last TJ. Was targeting a return in August.
  8. Great seeing Balazovic with a solid start, very solid. Also continue shaking my head at what Shuffield is doing. Is he for real? And what a great night in Wichita from the middle infielders. Martin was 1-3 with 3 walks, Julien 2-5 with a walk and Lee was 3-4 with a walk. Toss Lewis into that group and the Twins have four very interesting middle infielders. Hopefully, more than two force them to look for other spots to get them into future Twins' lineups.
  9. Couldn't be happier for this young man. What a great outing and the Sox did have most of their big hitters in their lineup. Gray, Mahle, Ryan, Maeda and Ober could be a very good starting 5 next spring. Add Paddack for a late summer replacement along with Winder and Varland, SWR and maybe Balazovic and I don't see the Twins needing to bring in any big names this winter.
  10. Cannot tell you how excited I am to see Lewis playing for the Twins in 2023 and beyond. I guess the good news for Lewis is that he was injured while playing for the Twins and went on their injured list. That meant he got his MLB salary, rather than his minor league salary? For all of you putting Lewis at short and Lee at third, where does Miranda play? And if he is at first, where is Arraez?
  11. Have always loved this guy. Believe that the difficulty he has had with the shifts have affected his hitting more than the numbers. Likely that he is mentally down after years of not getting many balls thru that infield shift. Change could be huge, thus, would hate to see him traded and then go back to being the hitter we all expected, you know .260-.270 average with 25 home runs, etc. Added to his excellent defense, and he would again be a key contributor to a winning team. Also understand that there are at least three, and probably more, corner outfielders looking for a place to play. Other than Wallner, all of them need to get healthy before we should plan on their manning either spot.
  12. Recommend you all read today's Strib which has a good piece about Buxton and his injury. First, it actually began bothering him in 2021. Everything seemed to be good in the spring, until that slide at Boston in mid-April. The article points out that Buxton arrived at the ballpark 4.5 hours earlier than others for every game when he and the trainers worked to get him ready to play. What made that difficult is that no one knew on nearly a daily basis whether or not he would be able to play come game time. He is having surgery on Tuesday. It will be a non-invasive procedure that is intended to clean up the patellar tendon which is the source of his problem. The recovery is 4-8 weeks, so he should be 100% by Thanksgiving, giving him the winter to prepare for spring training. Have to wonder if he had the surgery say mid-May, would he have been back sometime in August, back at 100%? Eight weeks recovery with a 20 day rehab assignment would put him on the field around the second week of August. But isn't hindsight always 20-20?
  13. Interesting. Hopefully, the Twins realize that how they use starters means they must have at least two relievers who can throw 2 to 3 innings every third or fourth day. Can Ober become a top member of the bullpen in this role? I would think the answer is yes, but is this the best use of his arm?
  14. Considering he began the year in Wichita and will start tonight versus Ohtani, easy choice. And what a year Varland had. Gotta believe/hope this young man is the real deal and can be an important arm for the Twins over the coming years. Really like how SWR has finished his season. Count me among those hoping he gets one start that last weekend with the Twins. Would be nice to see both of these young men anchor the front of the Saints rotation on opening day and are in position to join the Twins permanently, come May or June. Continue to be intrigued with Raya. Also want to second Mark's comments above about getting more innings out of the starters. Got a feeling that ain't gonna happen until there are some changes in who is making those decisions.
  15. Recall asking Seth, maybe last year, and believe I remember that Duran is not related to the Twins Duran. Love your write-up about Olivares. Will recall, however, the astonishing numbers Anthony Escobar had back when he was in the DSL. Was 100% convinced he would be a future star for the Twins. Believe he is still in the organization, but had a so-so year with either the FCL Twins or the Mightly Mussels. What that taught me is it is a long ways from success in the DSL to the Twins. Hopefully, several of these young men will continue pitching well as they move up the ladder. We all know, the Twins need to develop more and better pitching than in the past.
  16. Recall checking the DSL box scores regularly over the summer. In the year's I have been following them, don't recall any season with as many hitters batting over .300 as most games had 6 or 7 hitting .300 something. Heck, seems like the typical year would have only one or even none. Don't know what that means. Is this a phenomenal group? Or was it a really bad year for pitching in the DSL? But sure is fun seeing this many guys have great summers with their bats. I really liked Acuna, who didn't turn 17 until mid-August. Got off to a terrible start, hitting .077 in June, before hitting over .350 the rest of the summer. Also interesting that he walked nearly as often as striking out. Not saying he should have replaced Rodriguez as he didn't have his speed or power, just really liked his potential.
  17. After a couple of games of hope, Balazovic returns with another ugly outing. So disappointing. Will be curious to see if the Twins keep him on the 40-man. Guess it will come down to comparing him with player X who is the next man on the bubble that isn't getting added. Unfortunately, have to believe that there is some team out there that would take the gamble of picking him up in the draft.
  18. Lots of conversation here about last off-season and whether or not the Twins FO did enough prior to this year. No one seems to remember that there wasn't an off-season. The league was shut down what, a week or two after the World Series? Then when they were able to begin doing business it was a one-week sprint to the opening of training camp. We shouldn't be throwing stones, at least big ones, for what they didn't accomplish last winter.
  19. Wow, I hope they didn't use up all their runs in the first game. The Twins need one of these teams to get a championship and Wichita is the only one left. Gotta comment on Julien for what seems like the umpteenth time. Two for three with three walks in a playoff game, when it really counts, is just crazy. Also great seeing Martin with 2 hits and Lee with 3. This organization may be a lot better than the experts think it is. Also nice night from SW-R. Like how this kid has been throwing the ball down the stretch.
  20. Will be interesting next year, Nick. Especially, if Lewis returns playing like he did prior to his injury. Assuming Correa is gone, of the two who is the shortstop? And putting the other at third base isn't an easy answer. If you do, what do you do with Miranda? Appreciate this article, especially after the way this season is ending. Will also agree with those above that Rodriguez could be special. Any word on how bad his knee injury was and how his recovery is coming?
  21. Another interesting question, Ted. Biggest reason to not add him is if he didn't have to be added to the 40-man until 2023. Checked and see that he was a 2018 draft pick, so needs to be added this November. That eliminates that excuse, so what the heck Twins...bring him up for that one game. Heck, maybe he and Varland could get back-to-back starts and we would get a good glimpse of the Twins future, perhaps near future.
