    I doubt the FO is feeling desperate. They just made a huge offer that was simply outbid. Los Gigantes signing Correa for $65M over everyone else's bid -- remember other teams, including the Yankees dropped out prior to the Twins -- and for 13 years! Look to the Tigers with Miguel Cabrera for what an aging star is like at the end of their contract. The FO will move on. The Twins were in first place last season until the team was decimated by injuries. Most of those players will be back. Rodón signing would be great if it can be done.

    I am not making any point about whether he opts in or out of his contract. Simply that he is not performing to the expectations of his #2 contract in MLB (of position players). He has been good, very good, but not stellar. Disappointing, even. Imo, I doubt this season has done anything, so far and it's late, to enhance his bargaining position should he opt out. I agree that his decision "doesn't seem all that interesting".

    Correa is fourth highest paid player in MLB this year. Top two are pitchers, then, at #3 is Mike Trout. My point is simply that he is not performing at the elite level his salary demands. He isn't even tops on the team in any major offensive stat. He plays very good defense.

    The other "insurance" his current contract provides is against "substandard production". His year, offensively, has not been impressive. Certainly not at the elite level his salary would demand. Interesting to see how this plays out in the off season.

    How do you know all this? You'd have to be in the dugout. Specifically, Arraez has said that he is fine with hitting wherever it is an advantage to the team. Baldelli has made many moves "against the book" and based on what he thinks will help win the game. Players are confused? That is too general to even ask for proof.
