  1. Santana playing CF was a fluke. That is, unless you believe that center field to D.San was a security blanket that was worth a .300 point difference in OPS.
  2. I like Hicks better than Murphy. Nothing against Murphy who I think can be a decent catcher, but I believe Hicks really did find himself this last season. I hope the Twins didn't give up on Hicks because they just didn't like him.
  3. Even if the Twins were to somehow acquire the reincarnation of Brad Radke, there's no way he'd be pitching 230 innings a season. They just wouldn't do that anymore. Holding up contemporary pitchers to that standard is simply unfair.
  4. I would fire Molitor and hire Gardy today. Not really, though. What does it say about Gary's reputation that he hasn't been able to land a manager job? If he was the front-runner for the Padres at one point, why did he fall behind? LEN3 had a blog recently that said Gary would want to bring in Andy and Scott Ullger. Maybe his demands are unrealistic.
  5. That this is even a topic speaks volumes about what fans have come to expect from this organization... is there any team that loves their warm fuzzies as much as the Twins? Could we get Cuddyer back too?
  6. In my mind there is a difference between a horrible person and a jackass. It is Torii's right to believe what he wants. If he does so publically, I have the right to dislike him for it. I'm not accusing Torii Hunter of being a scumbag and I would never encourage others to mail dead animals to him. However, I also did not participate in standing ovations for him. And then there's Mark Kotsay. Smooth move, Torii.
  7. It's a good thing that the decision to bring him back or not was taken out of the Twins' hands. I'd never say he was a favorite of mine, but he was a very good player for a long time.
  8. http://sabr.org/research/does-pitcher-s-height-matter Not claiming that this is the end-all of the argument, but what research has been done regarding pitchers' height and effectiveness/durability is thoroughly inconclusive. That is to say, there is no statistical evidence that taller pitchers are generally better pitchers.
  9. I would guess it was more about service time than height. If Berrios pitched exactly the same and was seven feet tall, he still wouldn't have been up.
  10. I've also heard that taller pitchers are less injury-prone because there's less strain on their arm. I don't buy that one either.
  11. Is there really a correlation between pitcher height and effectiveness? I ask because it always seems to come up when projecting Berrios. I get that JO is like four feet tall in heels, but Johan wasn't real tall. And for every Randy Johnson there's a bunch of Mike Pelfreys.
  12. Hughes drastically outperformed expectations in 2014. That shouldn't have become the new expectation going forward. He always gave up lots of home runs. That was the book on him. No, Hughes is not an ace, and he'll never be 2014 good again. That's why the contract extension was an unnecessary mistake. I'm not saying he should be arrested for that. Hughes belongs in a major league rotation, but by no means is he a #1.
  13. The contract is a problem if the Twins insist on running Mauer out there at first base while there might be better options. It's not outlandish to look at Mauer's production and expect more. "We're paying him too much to not play him" just sounds like the old cheapskate Twins rhetoric. If there was a MLB minimum first baseman to be had who could best Mauer's meager offensive output, it's in the team"s best interest to move Joe aside.
  14. I was one of those saying that Jepsen wasn't enough. As it turns out, the other move(s) the Twins should have made was for more bullpen help. Y'know, beyond one guy.
  15. Lindor is only 21? He can't be ready. Why are the Indians burning his service time?
  16. Yup...look for a pitch you can elevate, or hit it behind the runner. The manager could help by starting the runners early.
  17. Prospects are like souffles in the oven... you open up that oven door too soon and they fall apart. You've just got to be patient... when Santa TR says it's Christmas morning, then we can have our shiny new toy.
  18. No way... if you call up Berrios now he'll walk everybody. Then his confidence will be shot and he'll turn into a headcase like Hicks and be ruined forever. For-ever.
  19. Too many walks... doesn't mix up his pitches enough... he struggles to catch up when he's promoted... we want to make sure that when he's called up it's for good... Aaron Hicks...he's been getting by on trickery that might fool AAA hitters, but major leaguers would eat him alive. Nothing to do with service time though.
  20. He's not ready. Maybe a few weeks into the 2016 season. But right now, he's not ready.
  21. Is that Grady Sizemore? I thought for sure he was forced to retire after bilateral leg amputation.
  22. When you visit the concession stands at the Trop, you can get beets and bread for free, but it takes forever to get through the line.
