  1. I'm not saying trading for Trout would necessarily be a good thing. If the Angels made Trout available, some GM would trade for him, cost be damned. That is to say, there are GMs out there who would think the cost would be worth it, and I can't be certain that they would be wrong. I just can't envision TR even making that phone call, even if the Twins had a full-to-bursting minor league system and were a CF away from being a world series contender.
  2. The Twins are several Mike Trouts away from being relevant. The sad thing is that, no matter what position the Twins and their minor league system is in, Trout is too good. The Twins under Ryan would never trade for that kind of proven talent. Ever.
  3. Handicapping the Twins GM search: Rob Antony 2-1 Brad Steil 7-2 Ron Gardenhire 5-1 Wayne Krivsky 12-1 Jack Goin 30-1 Andy McPhail 40-1 Nick Punto 50-1 The Field 99-1
  4. That's the problem with having so many big time prospects on the 40 man. In years past they could call up a Wilkin Ramirez or a Darin Mastroianni to sit in the bench. None of those types are on the 40 man roster, though.
  5. When it's been 10 days since Kepler was sent down, because I imagine that's who would be replacing Rosario.
  6. So I'm at this game... and the first thing I notice is that the Nats don't shoot off fireworks during the "rockets red glare".
  7. Maybe there was some bad umpiring behind the plate... but the opponents had to deal with that, too. If you think the Twins pitchers are being jobbed by the officials, watch what kind of strike zone the other guys are getting. You might have missed some bad calls going the other way.
  8. Is it fair to compare Cochrane to Mauer, though? If Cochrane had some of those day games after night games off, if he could have DHed a little, and if his manager didn't abuse him as was the fashion at the time, would he have been a significantly better player than he was?
  9. I don't think this will hurt the club beyond what they're paying him and the predictable negative fan reaction. I hope that if I ever get fired, and nobody wants to hire me, that my former employer will hook me up with a golden parachute.
  10. That's not a monkey, it's an ape. Also that ape has an orangutan on its back. Also an ape.
  11. I don't know if Perk would make up an injury as an excuse... but I will say that if he was perfect in relief so far, a pinch in the shoulder might seem a little more bearable.
  12. It's about time somebody took poutine and Americanized it by adding the obligatory buffalo chicken. Now we just need a chicken Caesar poutine.
  13. Seth, you mention how hitters' strategy has changed to swing hard in all counts instead of just trying to put the ball in play. That goes for pitchers, too. They don't "pitch to contact" as deliberately as they used to. Old timey hitters would probably strike out more if they faced modern pitchers who were trying to overpower them.
  14. Kevin Jepsen. The guy exceeded all expectations last year. I don't think he's really that good.
  15. I'm not going to disagree with you... but for the most part this is true about every team. The Twins are not special in this regard.
  16. .244/.307/.435. Assuming Plouffe isn't dogged by injuries, I expect exactly what he put up last year. I don't think he's got a new level he's going to take his game to.
  17. It was unrealistic to expect Duffey to take off from his 2015. He was always going to regress. I expected Nolasco to take the spot "reserved" for Duffey in the rotation. This just gives the Twins more reason to do that.
  18. .257/.328/.370. The further Joe gets from the concussion the closer he gets to the end. Sorry sports fans.
  19. I could have at least looped a single off that Charlie Liebrandt pitch.
  20. Yup... the Twins had made up their minds that May was a reliever long before spring training. It's a large part of the reason that they did not acquire relief help. If I was May I would feel jerked around that the Twins said he was in the mix to start. That was never the case.
  21. Two problems with this. 1. If the need arises for a starter some time during the season it will not be May because he won't be stretched out. 2. May might make the bullpen better, but so would Ervin Santana and Tyler Duffey if they were put there.
  22. I'd be just fine with a youth movement in the bullpen. I just don't see it happening until June at the soonest, and I'm concerned that we'll be giving away wins early. A nitpick - Mike Lamb wasn't 2006. That was Tony Batista.
  23. The Hennepun County taxpayers (including myself) built the Twins a money-making machine. I think they're obligated to give us better than a Metrodome-quality product. All that said, the first thing I would change would be to trade Cuddyer, Kubel, and Nathan at the 2011 deadline. The team wasn't going anywhere and that could have helped expedite the rebuild. The Twins' loyalty to veterans has at times undermined their long-term strategy. I would cite the Hughes extension as another example. I believe that to be successful building from within, you need to hurt feelings at times. Make Hughes prove himself again before rewarding him. Tell Joe Nathan that you don't care if he doesn't want to be traded. Take the PR hit of trading Cuddyer. It's all in the interest of putting together a better baseball team.
