  1. Manfred and the owners are content with what they have and display little interest, judging from their actions, in growing the game. Simply put, baseball either doesn't have competent overall leadership and vision or perhaps it is not interested.
  2. What possible good could come from any association with Trevor Bauer by a public entity such as the Twins. Bauer will have years and many potential opportunities outside of baseball to resolve the difficulties of his current life. We can all hope that Bauer puts his intellect toward some good and manages to live a productive life. His professional baseball career is over.
  3. Campbell was a pretty remarkable pitcher for Twins teams that fell short of the standards set in the 1960s.
  4. The Twins started November seeking: 1)SS; 2) C; 3)TOR SP; 4) RH bat, preferably OF; and 5) RP. Correa covers the first and loosely the fourth goal. Vasquez takes care of the second need. Does Oliver Ortega take care of five? Correa and Vasquez is a decent start and a trade might just take care of another need, although the top pitchers are spoken for now. If Correa winds up back with the Twins, it is a positive.
  5. A good MLB team must be able to sign and develop players via the draft and the Latin America route, identify free agents to sign, and acquire players via trade. Using all three avenues is optimal but if a team is able to be superior at a couple of the three options, there is hope. Where are the Twins in these scenarios? A number of general managers and team presidents of player operations have been very aggressive in trading, lost their jobs, and been recycled with other teams. I am wondering what has made Falvey so reticent to pull off a major trade or acquisition using players from their current roster. Perhaps other teams have zero interest in Twins players or maybe the Pohlads dictate more control than seems rational considering their business model. Either way, Twins fans wait and hope to escape the mediocrity that plagued the past two seasons.
  6. Agree, and that should include some major trades that include players who were on the roster last season; make a move.
  7. Joe Ryan is a top ten asset, in my opinion, because he could be a very consistently good pitcher. We could see another five years of seasons as good or better than last year from Ryan. That said, I do view him as an excellent #4 or decent #3 pitcher in a starting rotation. If the Twins can acquire or develop a pitcher with more than two years of control remaining to slot into the #1 or #2 positions, they would be among the team's best assets.
  8. Julien seems close, maybe closer than we expect. The one thing that stood out to me about Julien's at bats is how well he controlled the pitcher-batter engagement. Julien could benefit from looking to do more damage early in counts, but he is one player I expect to benefit from the better umpiring at the MLB level. He needs a home defensively or perhaps breaks in as a DH. I am ready to see Julien get an opportunity this season.
  9. You are not wrong in your assessment. The best players usually have some degree of risk. The Twins have totally eschewed the risk of long term contracts for their own reasons, right or wrong not being important, which will mean a list such as Nick has put together. The balance of healthy/unhealthy makes us question the probability of success for the team at the very least.
  10. For some reason I think San Diego will only trade Kim for a huge gain in player resource. Since the Padres are all in for this year for sure, it is more likely they make one more trade of a future asset for a pitcher like Sonny Gray or T. Mahle. From the Twins perspective, it makes sense to talk with Preller and see if either a Kepler-Kim swap works (unlikely) or if the Friars are interested in giving up a top prospect for Gray or/and Mahle. These are the types of conversations we all hope that Falvey is both initiating and pursuing.
  11. MLR - this is the ticket to being a Twins fan. MikeLink45 - Don't let the ghost of Willie Banks ruin your daydreams. He was actually fun for a brief burst.
  12. Miami has a few pitchers with years of control remaining and the Marlins still need bats. Maybe it is time to gamble a little going for a Cabrera and/or Luzardo. what does Miami want in return?
  13. While I enjoy watching Ryan pitch, he has struggled some against the top teams. Joe still has to prove himself against the top lineups. Lewis and lee are all the future hope and I'm ready to see both play at Target Field this summer. Meanwhile, Jorge and Byron are proven performers and we hope to see them play often in good health.
  14. Huh? I think I either don't get your point or you misunderstood what I tried to say. Buxton is far shy of Mauer in every way yet Joe was vilified as no Twin ever. We might be better off just enjoying Buxton whenever he plays instead of getting worked up over the downside of the games he misses. FWIW, I agree with the idea that suggests Buxton plays when able and goes on the Il when injured as opposed to sending him out crippled to DH and swing for the upper deck. I always felt that those who criticized Mauer missed a carreer they will be unlikely to see again and although just a half of that, we should just enjoy Buxton's skills because he too is a rare talent.
  15. Go for Edward Cabrera instead - maybe Larnach plus a minor league player like Miller.
  16. Love these posts. I commented too long on the last two so will only add one wishful thought - Miranda needs a new jersey number.
  17. In late September of 1984 a very young Twins team closed their home schedule with a win that brought them into a tie for first place. The crowd was on its feet all night rocking The Dome and didn't quit until the Twins came out from the clubhouse well after the game had ended to a thunderous ovation for their season. The Twins didn't win in 1984 or in 1977 or in 1963, but the sheer joy of some teams keeps an addict coming back for more even through the abyss of seasons like 2022. The Twins are coming on the radio and tv and live real soon and it takes a few months of optimism to get pumped up. It's baseball.
  18. Joe Mauer had some serious injuries, most sadly the debilitating concussions that pushed him to an early retirement after forcing him to come out of the catcher's crouch. Mauer ended with 7883 innings behind the plate as well as 5136 innings at 1st Base and 308 games at DH. Professional sports are tough and Mauer's career, magic as it was, ended too soon. Byron Buxton plays with a fiery passion that ignites entire stadiums. When the Twins are on television or go on the road, Buck is the draw; he is simply electric. For his career thus far, Byron has played 4436 innings in CF and appeared in 35 game as a DH. Buxton has only taken the field for 100 games once thus far and only managed to make it out to CF in 57 games last year. Because Byron Buxton is on a team friendly no trade contract and especially because he is the best centerfielder in baseball when healthy, we need to just hope for the best and believe that he will do his best to keep us watching. Injuries to athletes are a drag, but for nobody more so than the athlete and their families as they heal and rebound and train to come back again and again. Like others, I wince when an obviously hurting Buxton resorts to swinging from his heels because it is less painful to trot than it is to run even if running brings him pure joy more than the 450+ foot blasts. Let us all wish the best for Byron Buxton and hope he is used more appropriately in 2023. In the meantime, maybe Celestino is ready to be a decent backup in CF if none of Gordon, Gallo, or Kepler fit the task.
  19. Wacha as a small part of a grand movement of chairs. 1. Burnes acquired for Miranda, Ryan, and Martin after agreeing to a long term contract. 2. Cabrera and Luzardo acquired for Larnach, Winder, Raya, and Miller. 3. Kim acquired for Mahle and ..... Pagan. Wait. NEVERMIND.
  20. The Twins have a larger than normal allotment for bonuses. I know most players are pretty firm with specific teams, but maybe this is a good year to go above slot to "steal" away a top guy; a switch hitting athletic catcher perhaps (Salas).
  21. Thielbar is a fun pitcher to watch with his slow curve and surprising fastball. Hopefully he can keep going for several more years and cash in on his hard work.
