    My nominee would be Glenn Adams who hit .338 in 1977. His slash line was .338/.376/.468. He had 8 RBIs in a 19-12 win at Chicago White Sox, a game I listened to from my home in Toledo, OH on 670 WMAQ with Harry Carey announcing! In 1977 he had only 269 AB, playing for Gene Mauch, who was a proponent of platooning back when teams used less pitchers and you could afford to platoon. Mauch was a brilliant manager and who know-how great that 1977 team could have been if Griffith didn’t let go of via free agency and trade, all of the stars of the team, Carew being the last to depart after 1978 season, a dark moment in Twins history but Griffith made Carl Pohlad look like George Steinbrenner !!!!!

    Don’t forget that Thorpe had a 6.18 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. He was pretty bad down the stretch. That said, I realize he could grow and be a valuable starter. But if Walker is healthy now, and he might be, I would much prefer his career 3.95 ERA to Thorpe’s 6.18. Smeltzer seemed up and down to me. I’d rather have someone with experience. Then if things aren’t working out or there are injuries and Thorpe and/or Smeltzer have strung up several good starts in AAA, they can be the insurance policy. DObnak, I’m not sure about....he was good down the stretch but when the bright lights of NY were on, he collapsed. Maybe a little more AAA time for him.

    I like Rooker a lot and he hut very well at Rochester. It seems to me he is MLB ready and they’d do well to give him chance.

    I reject the premise that the Twins should cripple themselves with a $135 payroll. Did Jim Pohlad announce that number? They have a chance to win a world championship. Surely Jim Pohlad, the least cheap owner the Twins have had in decades can stretch to 150-160million, You do realize that with a juggernaut team on the field that has the starting pitching of other playoff teams will result in lots of sellouts and he will get all the money back. My two cents. They should start with Ryu or Bumgarner and also sign Donaldson by being very aggressive and outbidding the competition.

    I would be pretty happy with that but here’s my World Champion plan: Using Spotrac.com I took the top 19 salaries for the 2020 Twins and came up with 95.02 million. I read an article from a team exec that he/she expects the final salary for Cole to be 280 million over 8 years, which is 35 million per. Twins should swoop in and blow Cole away while Dogers/NY are much lower and do the deal tomorrow or Tuesday. Add Donaldson at 54/3 = 18 million Then fill out with four MLB minimum salaries such as Stashak, Graterol adds another 2.23 million. This is $160 million dollar payroll for 25 players and a possible World Championship for at least 3 years or more. Why not do it??? They’ll bring in much more money with a real WS Champion caliber team all year.

    I would do the same thing, sign Moustakis, move Sano to first. Polanco at SS and either Arraez or Villar at 2B. I think Brent Rooker is ready to step up in case of OF injuries. I’d try to get both Wheeler and Bumgarner and a legitimate 5th starter, someone like Robbie Ray, someone established....our young pitchers are too much of a gamble. We need to behave payroll-wise and player acquisition-wise like nothing short of a team that expects to be World champions for multiple years. It’s there for the taking.

    I like this sort of plan. You read my mind! I think the Twins should boldly and aggressively spend the money and make the trades to build a world Series champion in the image of the 1972-1974 Oakland A’s, who won 3 consecutive world championships. They were considered to have a dynasty but Free Agency came in and Charley Finley sold Joe Rudi and got rig of just about everyone of value to save money. Calvin and Charley. I want to go right after a dynasty, 3 or more World championships in a row. The window is open. We should settle for nothing less!!! Win Twins!!!!

    Overall, I like it but I have a nagging feeling that acquiring Mike Moustakis to play 3rd, leave Polanco at short (even though he makes some bad plays on his errors, he does often make sensational plays...in Strat-O-Matic, I might rate him a 1 e25. With Moustakis at 3rd, Polanco at short and Sano at first makes the Twins formidable offense potentially even more formidable. Moustakis might be the only position player we need to acquire - I think Brent Rooker might be ready to beat out Jake Cave. Although I love Cave’s hustle, he’s not even major league average for a starting outfielder and with all the Twins’ injuries, we need major league offense at those positions. For example when, Kepler and Buxton (never a guarantee for being available) were both hurt, our subs out there were decidedly subpar. I think if Rooker had’t been injured, he might have been the guy to go to....his AAA numbers were pretty good and I sense he still has a big upside.
