  1. This is a bad move. But it is typical of teams with smaller payrolls. They get rid of a good player with experience that can give the team a veteran at-bat in a playoff game. Then construct the reasoning for letting him go -- based on what he does on the field -- after calling him a good player....so they feel the need to point out some antics [name a player you couldn't do that to]. In Eddie's case, he always batted in the middle of the lineup and always was a team leader in RBIs. He was a left fielder....not a shortstop. Now, if the twins go out and replace him with a Michael Brantley or someone of that caliber.......fine! But we are looking at Cave, Rooker, Kirilloff, Larnach, etc.... A money dump.........again. I hope he ends up with the Yankees and beats the crap out of us.
  2. Bullpen, bullpen, bullpen............ We need to emulate the Yankee backend of the bullpen in recent years and the KC Royals backend in recent years. Half your innings come from the bullpen. Spend that money on veteran bullpen help. Too many innings spread to thin equals a tired bullpen when it is playoff time.
  3. In today's analytics driven baseball.....you are not allowed to get out of "your comfort zone"...or in this case - go beyond it. So theoretically, you will never be given the chance to improve...or at least show your resilience. So it doesn't matter that the Twins have 3 starters you like......because half of the playoff innings will be pitched by relievers....one inning at a time. 2 of the Twin's best relievers did not get to pitch in the playoffs [as well as your 3rd fav starter...Pineda]. Clippard and Wisler....nowhere to be found. Not sure what was more frustrating...the Twins hitting or Rocco's emotionless by-the-numbers managing. Did Rocco think Romo got better somehow?? Did Rocco not see Rogers having a bad year?? Don't break this team up. Make them stay with each other and learn how to be clutch in the playoffs.
  4. USAFChief --- Great post. To your #1 point....Perez [or one of the announcers] said that in this 17 straight playoff game losing streak...the Twins have been out scored 42-13 in innings 7 thru 9!!!
  5. Twins will hit the crap out of the ball today and win. No help from Berrios...as usual. We will get all very optimistic........Twins will revert to the usual no-hit, bullpen-choking version and lose Game 3, 5-2. Go Gopher football!!!
  6. The Reds are looking to win another game or 2.....they want their chance at the slumping Cubs by securing the 6th seed. This season is not over for the Reds. The Twins need to play every inning like it's the playoffs. Or they will fall to a seed they won't like. The Colina move is unexplainable. It tells the team - the season is over boys.....you can now relax. Not so fast. The Reds could drive the Twins straight down to the 7th seed....and no home games. Injuries will bring any team down. Looks like it may have just happened. This will give Cave and Adrianza a chance to shine [and they will....as they do....mostly]. Buxton is snake-bite.
  7. History repeats itself for a reason. In this case the Yankees look at their past success against the Twins to prepare themselves for the current playoff series.....and all they see is success. So what else should they expect?? The Twins get nervous because of their lack of success....and fear more of the same. Sweep.
  8. This game is getting un-watchable! If the starter isn't in the middle of throwing a no-hitter....he is yanked at the first sign of trouble [or the 5th inning, whichever comes first]. Then the next 7 relievers that enter the game each throw no more than 15 pitches -- or they are pulled after their 3 guys get on base...or they close out an inning. I still don't see the fascination with our bullpen and the way it is used. Basically, if you are perfect, you get to throw 15 pitches for one inning only. Repeat for at least 4 times [because the starter was pulled in the 5th]. The batters - strike me out....or I'll hit a homer off you. Good plan. Buxton's game is a throwback...and fun to watch. But, why the hell did he try home with one out?? 1st and 3rd with one out....used to be good!!! If Donaldson and Cruz think the umps in Chicago are against the Twins.....wait until they play the Yankees [bubble or not]. Calm down Twins and play with your heads on straight. Oh and Kepler.....learn out to throw.....and Rocko - get him out of the lead-off spot. He is still hurting...or something.
  9. What I like about Maeda ---- he actually can go the distance....as in 7+ innings. Most of them get praise for going 5+ innings.....and leaving the rest to bullpen guys, who may or may not be on that day.......all of them.....one per inning!!! Dobnak is gone. A move that is sad but was a move "waiting to happen". A miracle worker this year...enough to give the Twins a boost at the start with 6 wins and enough good innings. Maeda, Pineda, and Odorizzi will not be phased by the Yanks. Especially Pineda.
  10. That wasn't a ground rule double. That was theft of a run by the White Sox Left Fielder. The stupidest call ever [whether it was the right call or not]. The umpiring may have contributed just as much as the players....to the Twins loss.
  11. Lindor is NOT the easy-going player everyone thinks he is. Evidence: his over the top chattering in Cleveland when when Romo was on the mound. Last night his "smile" that would provoke anybody [after his chattering in Cleveland]. It appeared initially, that Romo was going to put some distance between him and the chattering in Cleveland [good idea Romo...just pitch!!]. Or...Clear the benches and let the boys work it out. Lindor needs a smack in the face. Lots of players have obnoxious antics and mannerisms that agitate. At some point, Lindor has to put on the gloves or let it alone. If it affects Lindor that much....then maybe Romo's antics are working. Rogers needs to start placing his pitches in another spot....other than the heart of the plate!! His curve ball is waiting to be smacked, and the fastball is 95 and right down the middle. he is getting what he dishes up there.
  12. Those who should initiate the first step towards a resolution....are not. It surprises me that the mayors, city councils, the police, protester leaders, BLM, Civil Rights leaders, Governors, the local business owners, etc.....in other words - all the stake holders.....have not tried to initiate any talks. It's a national issue...how about the President?? Disappointing. The least it would do is expose the violent participants on both sides. Simple requests for discussion....and a little "beer summit" as Obama called them.....would raise some unity and civility...for awhile. We could at least see who comes to the table.....and hear some specific solutions. Taking a day off from baseball is a nice nod to the cause.....but nothing more. Not that it has to stop there. By contrast --- We are currently in talks with the Taliban for God Sake!!!! Why not engage in "peace talks" with our own citizens?? What is wrong with us?
  13. I disagree....Taylor Rogers didn't "look lights out earlier this year"....as some of you are saying. His location was mediocre, but fortunately for him...it was against very cold hitting. He needs to work on his location. Like all MLB pitchers....it is location, location, location. How else do you think Romo can do what he does. Mariano Rivera in the HOF with one pitch. Greg Maddux [best pitcher in 50 years??] barely throwing 90 MPH....and 88-pitch complete games. Pitch location and purpose. You can't just throw strikes....they have to have a purpose and a location for each and every pitch. Taylor Roger's pitches have neither on most occasions. Roco is running Spring Training tryouts in the bullpen this year. We have one of the best records in baseball....so he is getting away with it. The relievers with the most innings are [in this order]: Thorpe, Alcala, Wisler, and Smeltzer. Saving the big boys for when the starters get their sh*t together and pitch 6 or 7 innings!!!
  14. The Twins need more veterans in the bullpen. That is obvious when they make the call to the bullpen....and it is yet anther "rookie". Give us more Romos, Clippards, etc.... Need to say - Love Duffy and May....and hoping for a Rogers improvement. Home Runs, defense, 3 starters, and late-game bullpen heroics....win championships. I'll bet even the disinterested BeHomeByEleven would agree with that.
  15. The Twins lost their opportunity to get Bundy this last off-season [and they should have.....I have always thought he was a very bright spot on a bad Oriole team]. But for the Angels front office to give up on a new front-line player [and the team] after just 30+ games [whatever it will be]....is a little far-fetched. Plus, are you ever really out of it this year until the last week?? I was hoping the Twins would have acquired Bundy last winter. To me, Bundy always looked good, and was the best pitcher [with untapped talent as you noted] on a bad team. The Twins missed their chance.
  16. Luis Arráez - 7-for-21 (.333) with a .391 on-base percentage. That's great and all that...but he has to play better defense. I'm worried about Sano's "defense" at 1B as well. Both have been in the middle of some bizarre-looking defensive plays. In a couple of years, if both have not settled into a "serviceable" form of defense - they will be traded or let go. For some reason, I have more faith in Sano raising his defense to a serviceable level than Arráez doing the same. But Sano's "mental lapses" with his hitting approach may get him in more trouble than his glove.
  17. That really is the secret to success in the MLB. Surround your minor league success stories with major league success stories. Guys like Donaldson and Cruz struggled early in their MLB careers before becoming all-stars. You have to let the young guys find their way like those two did. Some of the young guys will hit their stride early than others....but surrounded by 2 proven stars....the Twins can be patient. This is a Twins hitting line-up that will do damage in the playoffs. Make all the routine plays and hit the crap outta the ball. The Twins need to apply that same philosophy to their pitching staff. We need 2 or 3 more Clippards and we need something as close to a Verlander as possible. This town will back a well-paid-for-winner......if that COVID thing will ever go away. Easier said than done.....but until we do, we will not beat the likes of the Yankees.
  18. Difference in the game - Homer kept his slop up....and the Cubs kept their slop down and away [fooling most of the Twins batters]. Rosario looks in mid-season form. Might need to move him up in the order and ride it for a bit. The lineup is so awesome on paper....don't want to miss any half inning of Twins hitting [no matter what part of the order is up]. For some reason, I did not mind the lack of a crowd [i thought I would]. Though, I was glad they piped in some crowd noise.
  19. Let's start examining Herbie, how about Harmon.....why not?? Washington and Jefferson have become fair game.... If the Twins think the symbolic message of tearing down a statue is espousing equality for all, they don't have a clue. The Twins have been accused of being a very white organization even through the Polhad's tenure. Look at the minor leagues and look in the stands. They are kissing ass and succumbing to the prevailing political pressure. All of corporate America is doing so.........it's good business.....that's all.
  20. If I want to read or talk politics....I go elsewhere. Get this crap out off this site!
  21. In my opinion, the most forgotten [underrated] player of the 1980s was Gary Ward. Glad you have him on your list. Gaetti forgotten or underrated?? Are you kidding....we all remember the Rat and his clutch play and big hits in the 1987 run. Shane Mack would be my pick as the most forgotten and underrated player of the 1990s. In the 1991 series he batted 5th....ahead of Hrbek and behind Chili Davis. A career .299 hitter with lots of athletic ability.
