Article: The Twins Have a Problem
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have a contrarian view on this. The Twins offense has been remade and revamped and Buxton and Sano are still on the way. So its only going to get better. The starting rotation is 2 starters deep with a #1 Hughes and a 3/4 starter in Gibson. I suspect the Twins will trade for another pitcher. We have Nolasco as a bounce back candidate who I suspect will have a similar season to Gibson this year and be a .500 pitcher. And we have 3 others with some potential for the 5th spot May, Meyer, and Millone. The bullpen will be average if not above average but not spectacular. That should get us back over .500. Plus I think Detroit is nearing the end of their run with age and FA status affecting their future with a depleted farm system. I think If we are over .500 at the break next year the team will sell tickets. Probably not as many as they would like but I bet they hit close to 2 million. And I bet we are competitive into September. -
Article: Twins Top Prospects Part 1: 41-50 (Preliminary)
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't get too caught up in the numbers outside of the top 10 maybe top 20 because the difference from #40 and #21 is not that great and is subjective to the eye of the beer-holder. Debating who are top 10 prospects makes more sense. I view the top 50 as an opportunity to learn more about our prospects.- 25 replies

Article: Where Does Pelfrey Fit In?
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rule number 1 to pitching is you can never have too much. Lets wait and see what the Twins do in the offseason and how things shake out in spring training. I think the bullpen is definitely an option for him and the twins do too. His 3.5 million in incentives are for starting not relieving but the Twins got him for less guaranteed in case they moved him to the pen. I see him currently as a 7th or 8th or 9th starter depending on how you rank Pino and Swarzak. Probably 7th. I think if the Twins sign someone in the offseason he probably starts in the pen. -
Article: Peterson Saga Brings Back Memories
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Its to the point where I am going turn off football for a while. the media circus is too much for me to tolerate. watching the Vikings without Peterson is too. I think this is a case where Peterson thought he was doing right and needs to be corrected and given a chance to see if that takes hold. Wasn't those hits a result of the child endangering another child on a bike? Yes what he did was abusive but Adrian didn't think it was wrong as he thought it fit the punishment based on how he was disciplined growing up. I think there is room here for lieniency If he was a drunk abuser then I get it. punish the guy but he has cooperated and he has been a role model outside of that. so give him a chance to grow as a person. -
Article: Five Twins Rebound Candidates
Brandon replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nolasco has already started his rebound in case it hasn't been noticed he has given up only 3 earned runs in his last 3 starts and has only 1 bad start in his last 5 where his ERA is still 3.09 including that start. so he has been a lot better since coming back from injury it just took 2 starts to warm back up. Dozier has evolved some. The pitchers quit throwing the high fastball to him which has resulted in more doubles than HRs the second half. I do believe he needs to increase his average though but I am more concerned about why he quit running and stealing bases. The next 2 starts will determine where May is really at and if he belongs since he will pitch to 2 contending teams in his last starts of the year. But he does appear to be improving as evidenced by his k and bb ratios since his first start. If Mauer can go back to hitting .320 then we may have an elite offense next year and beyond. If he is at .270 we may have to move him back to C or consider him a part time player if he isn't going to hit 20+ HRs. Jury is still out on Hicks. He seems to want to be a 4th OF more than a starter by the way he's hit so far. And more and more talent is on the way so our time is coming and hopefully soon we can get off of the fire the front office and manager.- 12 replies

Article: Five Key Improvements for 2015
Brandon replied to stringer bell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can you pinpoint why you don't like Gardy as manager? I see lots of blame going his way for a talentless roster. I hope its not 4 losing seasons. If its in game management then I can appreciate that or if its something else. The Twins are about set to go on an 8 season winning streak or so. If Gardy manages those seasons he will be back to being a good manager and close to a 2000 win manager too. Might even bee a Hall of Fame Manager. The question is if he'll want to manage until e's close to70.- 34 replies

Article: Five Key Improvements for 2015
Brandon replied to stringer bell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1. The Twins offense is good now despite Mauers production. But a better Mauer is more fun to watch. 2. Mauer, C and the OF is where defense is lacking. We have defensive C at high A on the way and the low A C wasn't too bad either. wont help in 2015 but help is coming. Buxton, Hicks and Schaefer can get to anything in the OF, Parmelee can hold his own as a 4th OF/DH/1B/PH. Buxton wont be up till late next year if we are lucky but we wont be as bad next year by default. The solution is in our system. Mauer just needs more repetition to be average out there. 3. The rotation has pieces with more coming. We could go out and sign Santana/ Shields or wait it out. 4 and 5. no real comment on the last 2 home record and management are not something you can really pinpoint for improvement. yes we can get better OF defense and RH power. and Gardy is fine as a manager.- 34 replies

Article: Trevor May And Pitching From The Stretch
Brandon replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He's now won 3 games straight basically pitching like Correa in those starts with strikeouts. 8 ER in 16 innings with 19 strike outs. He's getting there. I think he is starting to relax a little. -

Its time for post game defensive drills. Especially after games when bone headed plays are made. Drill the bad habits and mistakes out right after they make them. -

Article: Could Mientkiewicz Be The Next Twins Manager?
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you look at what's coming for the future. If Gardy leads the Twins to winning seasons for the next 8 seasons or so ....and that is possible with he talent coming up the pipe the Gardy could end his career with over 2000 managerial victories and potentially make the hall of fame as a manager. Why would he walk away from that? Just because Kelly did doesn't mean Gardy does. And its not like Gardy has forgotten how to manage. I say he'll be here another 10 seasons or so till he's close to 70 and walks away as a top 5 manager of all time. Though Meintkiewicz is definitely a future managerial candidate somewhere if not here. -
There are 12 relievers on that list that had a 9k per 9 innings or better and a few more that were close. Pretty soon our relievers will strike out more that our starters.

I've been writing about this in the Forums section and updating it since the Twins have traded their vets. The Twins are likely to finish either 3rd 4th or 5th worst record at this point. Houston is not guaranteed the 2nd pick of the draft if they have to sign the 5th pick whom they agreed to a handshake agreement with and then reneged and is being pursued by the union. Then Houston will be over slot bonus and forfeit their next 2 first round picks. They may get to keep the 2nd and loose their other pick so what do I know.

Article: Who Should Be Gone From the Coaching Staff?
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The talent was bad and this is a team in transition. There have been some bright spots. I am ok with bringing the gang back next year to see what they can do. If we are not a .500 team or close to it next year then changes will have to be made as we have several building blocks in place and a power offense moving forward. If Nolasco can at least go back to being an average starter we have 3 decent starters for next year and we have a few solid bullpen arms on the way. With that we should be a .500 team. We are having a bad September because we messed with the staff by adding and playing the extras for a tryout which I why the rest of this season doesn't bother me too much. If we went with a 25 or 27 man roster to win as many games as possible I would be disappointed with a sub .500 September. -
Article: A Closer Look at the 2015 Twins
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So on offense we have youngsters: Arcia, Santana, Hicks, Pinto, Vargas, Escobar, and vets Dozier, Plouffe, Suzuki, and Mauer. Parmelee, Nunez and Schaefer on the bench. I see the basics of a solid lineup an with Sano and Buxton ready around the Allstar break and Walker and Polanco by the end of the season we will have options The bullpen is solid as is but there are a few pitchers on the way up that throw real hard. so were good there. The rotation has the usual: Hughes, Gibson, Nolasco then Millone, May, Meyer, Pino, Pelfry and eventually Berrios. I don't know if any of the other starting pitchers will make the climb and be ready next year so the Twins may want to add a AAAA starter just in case. We used 11 starters this year. So as I see it we need a AAAA starter for depth and maybe a better back up C and maybe a LF if Hicks and or Schaefer cant cut it for now. -
Article: Twins Promote Eight for September
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hicks has through next season to impress the twins. I think this September is more about Hicks showing he can hold his own or do better than he's done so far. Bernier deserves a callup. I am ok with him as a possible bench call up for him next year if there is an injury. He is a solid insurance policy for the bench. There is a solid chance that this type of playing time will have him consider staying here in the offseason if the Twins ask him back. As far as the bullpen arms go, I don't want to get into who stays or who goes too much as our bullpen is currently pretty solid and not too expensive. Burton seems to be a given to be gone but with the rest who knows. Hermann hasn't hit yet but could be serviceable 5th OF/ 3rd C/ 3rd 1B if he could I for average or with some power or field better. I hope Colabello can still get that Korea contract for 1 million this offseason. would have loved to see him make it for a few seasons as a back up OF/1B/DH/ Pinch hitter off the bench but guess Parmelee will be that guy. Florimon/ Bernier only 1 should stick around to be bench insurance. defense vs bat Overall though I am excited to see that we are a few pieces away from being competitive. Our offense is improving to league best and we still have 2 super prospects coming up. We are currently set for the 5th pick in the draft if the season ended today. And we have Pitchers who are almost here. (Berrios and Meyer) -
Article: Only One Spot to Address for 2015?
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looks like we have multiple options at several positions. I like our bench Parmalee, Nunez, and Schafer, Pinto is the better back up C cause then we have a power LH and RH batter off the bench and speed Rotation is fine but Shields for 3 or 4 years would be nice. I don't think we could get the other top rotation pitchers for that short of a contract. SS should belong to Escobar as has been a top 5 SS offensively in the AL. Santana Should be able to take over if the need arises. He should definitely be starting somewhere. LF we have Schaefer, Parmelee, and then either Plouffe or Santana when Buxton and Sano comes up or we could sign a 1 year stop gap like Hunter 1 year 10 million is not too much. I think our bullpen will have more of a turnover during the season next year. we will probably head to spring training with a similar pen and make transitions throughout the year like we did on our offense this year. -
I feel old now. I remember reading your blog back in 2002 or2003. It was your second season blogging as there were a few articles from the previous season. when your kids were in elementary school. I found your blog In a web search for Twins news on accident. I went on to your site and read and article or 2 and it was exactly the kind of news I wanted to read about so I started reading the previous articles and went back to the previous season. I have been reading your stuff ever since.

Article: Injuries Have Hurt Prospects' Development
Brandon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Most of the injuries listed were minor injuries lasting a few weeks. there were only a few that were season altering. Buxton and Sano, Then Zach Jones, JT Chargrois (Chargrill), Luke Bard, Randy Rosario, and Fernando Romero. The rest of the injuries were of the few week variety so that happens. big deal. One of the injuries as a judgment injury that resulted in a 50 game suspension.- 22 replies

Article: Suddenly, Shortstops!
Brandon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think both should be kept with Escobar playing some 3rd and LF and some back up 2b while Santana should get a lot of time in CF. both still get lots of time at SS and at other positions while we wait for the 2 super prospects to arrive. -

Article: Reflecting on Chris Colabello's Career
Brandon replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Actually the foreign contract was for a million. Albers got 800,000 and the twins probably got 500k for that contract. I hope Colabello does get the Sept call up. I don't see him as a starter here but as a bench bat for the corner OF, 1B and DH and RH pinch hitter he could be ok for that.
