Can Nick Gordon Handle Third Base?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you are asking the wrong question. At the moment, Kepler, Gallo, and Kepler do not figure into the Twins long term plans (though I could easily see Gallo playing his way into those plans). That being said, Kepler and Gallo could easily provide more value than Gordon next year. Taylor doesn't really factor into this discussion as his role is pretty much defined as 4th OF and CF backup. Gordan's track record in the minors is very underwhelming. His major league career OPS+ is 101. Not a lot to write home about. At best he is a league average player. At best. The Twins have a handful of guys on the 40-man that could push Gordon out of the picture. To answer your questions in the 2nd paragraph: - Probably not - No, probably a low level prospect - Except Taylor, a relatively short leash, yes. But all three have a longer track record than Gordon. - Traded possibly. DFA'd doubtful (see previous answer). - Anemia being a relative term, yes. -
Can Nick Gordon Handle Third Base?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He isn't a starter, he is a backup. If Miranda goes down, Farmer will start. IF Miranda can't handle 3B IF Farmer gets pushed into that position IF the Twins do not make a move for another 3B IF Farmer puts up terrible numbers while playing 3B Then we can talk... -
Sorry guys, but I am a fan of the ghost runner. Long extra inning games have ramifications for weeks. I also like the strategy involved here (since they have systematically removed most other strategy points from the game). People barked at hockey when they went to 4v4 in overtime and finally the shootout. Football has changed their OT rules a handful of times in the last 15 years. I don't think it is as big an issue as some people make it out to be.

Rumor: Twins interested in Brad Hand?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Squirrel's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Forget everything else. If the Twins feel that he is an improvement over someone they are willing to move (down or out), and the cost is reasonable, you sign him. -
Can Nick Gordon Handle Third Base?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He was dead in the water until he showed some life last year. Considering the amount of OF currently on the 40-man and assuming those individuals are healthy, if Gordon doesn't come out relatively strong to start the season, I can't see him lasting terribly long. -
Can Nick Gordon Handle Third Base?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Farmer is your backup 3B. He will be the starter if Miranda misses time. Behind Farmer, there is some question. It would not shock me to see Gallo there, but I don't think it will happen. OF and 1B for him. Considering they really don't have anybody else on the 40-man to handle that position, I think you may see another low-level utility or 3B pickup between now and 1-2 week of season. -
Can Nick Gordon Handle Third Base?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gordon's days in the Twins infield are gone. Too many other options. Maybe in an emergency situation, but on a regular or semi-regular basis? No I am not sold on Gordon. Decent year last year? Yes. Still has a ton to prove. I think he makes the roster out of ST, but he will probably be on a relatively short leash -
Welcome TaterTot! Not much question here. Maeda makes more money as a starter with the way his contract is structured. Considering he was insanely good before the injury, he will be starting the year as a SP

It seems like it has been a while that the Twins have headed into ST with so few questions about their roster. Barring injuries or health concerns, there really is very little wiggle room on the roster.

It’s a Make Or Break Year for Jorge Polanco
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with you Cody that Polanco is a possible candidate to be traded. I feel there are maybe only 6 "untradeable" guys in baseball. Put I don't believe Polanco is in the same boat as Gallo or Kepler. Nothing to prove here, not a make-or-break season for him. Just needs to stay healthy.- 32 replies

It’s a Make Or Break Year for Jorge Polanco
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Of all the Twins concerns, Polanco is way, way, way down the list. At worst we are talking a league average 2B, tenured, liked, and respected in the clubhouse, not outrageously expensive and still relatively young. Oh by the way, there is no definitive replacement (young guys have shown nothing yet). Make or break for Polanco? Every projected lineup has Polanco in the top three spots. Doesn't sound like make or break to me.- 32 replies

I wouldn't call it a jinx. Pitchers go through it, most hitters go through it. After a while teams learn more and more about the new players and start making adjustments. It takes longer for some players than others. Some players acclimate to those adjustments, some don't. A name that fits this bill is Kennys Vargas. He got off to a torrid start, pitchers found him out and he couldn't adjust. Other factors can contribute to this as well: complacency, changes in approach, expectation anxiety. There is also the small sample size issue: holes can start to show the longer they play. I am not saying he is going to fail, but expectations need to be tempered. He still needs to prove it

Just so I understand: - Miranda needs to lose a lot of weight, but not too much weight. - He needs to come as close to looking like an 80's version of Jean Claude Van Damme as possible. - He should also be running 7-8 miles per day for conditioning - He should be spending a few hours a day on 3B defense drills - He should also be spending a few hours a day on 1B defense drills in case 3B falls through. Am I missing anything?
-
As I have stated elsewhere, the Miranda risk was mitigated when Correa came back with Farmer already in the fold. I am ok with giving Miranda a chance to hold down that position. On offense, he still needs to prove it by having a decent sophomore season. There are many fallbacks if Miranda fails. Beyond Farmer, you have Gallo (100 games at 3B) and Gordon, along with any of the young infielders looking make their name.

The Twins Most Underrated Player?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I truly hope he is not coming to the end of his Twins career. Polanco is along the same lines as Cuddyer: good to very good, but not great. He should still have a few good years in the tank. It would be nice to see him finish his career here, but he will probably be priced out of the Twins range in the future. -

Trading Gio Was A Mistake
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand the Urshela vs Kepler discussion, especially with Gallo on the roster. Personally I think Gallo was signed more for 1B insurance. The Taylor trade supports that theory. The Urshela trade was made to "unblock" Miranda at 3B. Everybody is so concerned that the younger players are "blocked". The truth is that we as fans do not know what the general feelings are towards these younger players. Also, none of them are truly "blocked" anyways: Gallo - 1 yr contract Kepler - Last year of contract Farmer - year to year Gordon - Still needs to "prove it" Polanco - could be bought out after this year Everybody needs to slow down and let the pieces fall where they may- 108 replies

The Mind Trick that Afflicts Twins Fans

Which Twins Lineup Do You Like Best?

Barring injuries, the lineup should look like this: Buxton Polanco Correa Miranda Gallo Polanco and Correa could be interchangeable. Everything after Gallo is interchangeable.- 31 replies

Trading Gio Was A Mistake
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand the logic that you are taking here. But even if you feel that way now, you presume that there are no more changes going to be made to the roster between now and opening day. Feel free to call this a mistake if the Twins do not make a move for more RH hitters and they start 2-12 against lefty SP. Until then this is 100% premature.- 108 replies

Trading Gio Was A Mistake
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How can anybody say this was a mistake? We haven't even had a single day of preseason. This discussion can only truly be had in retrospect. Anything else is premature. I didn't like the move at the time, but I understood why the Twins made it. The Miranda risk has been mitigated by Correa coming back and making Farmer a utility player.- 108 replies

Baseball’s Best Outfield Is In Minnesota
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have been saying this is the best defensive OF in baseball the moment they signed Gallo. With Kepler and Taylor, no team is even remotely close. Offensively there is some "prove it" with Kepler and Gallo. If those two can revert back to previous form, along with a healthy Buxton, the argument for best OF in baseball has some legs.- 40 replies
