  1. The Twins have an abundance of 89 MPH pitchers who can effortlessly locate their fastball to any section of the outfield seats.
  2. He allegedly throws a changeup and a curve. When asked by a fan at a spring training game if Boozynuts' last pitch was a changeup or a curve, an Angels scout reportedly said "Yes".
  3. With Busenitz being a hard thrower, it's another chance for Bert to talk about pitcher velocity like an elderly Civil War veteran deriding the horseless carriage as an "infernal machine".
  4. In North Dakota, with its population density of 0.8 persons per square mile, it's "Here! Here!". Otherwise they'd never find each other, even when it's not a blizzard whiteout.
  5. Yeah, but relative to the general population or to fellow Game Threaders?
  6. He caught on with Milwaukee... http://d.thewhistle.com/media/uploads/baseball/running_of_sausages.gif
  7. Waaay back in my day, you didn't have to be Morpheus or Neo or even Matthew Broderick in Wargames to do those things like you do now. The version I played was on the Apple II and written in BASIC. Just stopped the game, listed the code, changed some of the text and then left it running, without saving the vandalized version onto the trusty 5.25" game diskette. Someone from the next period played it and helpfully tattled on me, but it was worth it. And I'm glad to hear that Sister Francis didn't have The Big One on your watch.
  8. Me too. It's also one of the games that got me interested in programming in jr. high. Kobayashi Mar'ed the code to make it more winnable, and then got a one week computer lab time out for... altering some of the text messages in the game. Edit: Aggies asked me to return my avatar to the Buttermaker pic, and as an important member of the game thread tribe, his words have medicine, but I'm holding out for him explaining why before I change it back. Also, he informs us that he successfully installed and tested a shower curtain during the game, and the TD consensus is that it probably looks smashing.
  9. And it's been a somewhat somber game thread, HK. We got the tragic news of the passing of 70's singing sensation Nicollette Larson... in 1997 (for the love of God, don't ask). Someone suggested that Turley getting consecutive outs after getting behind the Indians 4-0 might constitute being on a roll, milliseconds before he gave up 4 more. And there's been a lively debate about whether Hughes should be publicly flogged, taken out behind the barn and shot, or, worst of all, sent to the bullpen.
  10. Unless you suffered a broken bone that you didn't mention, you were almost certainly having a better time there than we were watching the Twins. On the bright side, MLB rules prevent the Indians from donning their "Central Division Leaders" t-shirts for at least another day.
  11. Rally caps, everyone! http://www.rallycapcouriers.com/images/spt-ran.jpg
  12. Yeah, if he wants to generate plus offense for a corner outfielder, Eddie's going to have to stop running into the stands to hack at pitches out of the zone. Former Twins stalwart Brian Harper managed to be a productive hitter despite walking only 15-25 times per year, but he had the luxury of a somewhat greater ability to make contact...
  13. Is it as inadvertently offensive as my accidental desecration of the memory of 70's pop phenom Nicollette Larson?
  14. You did the right thing by testing it yourself. It's not right to let someone else assume all the risk with experimental tub modifications.
  15. "Your pitching has died of dysentery."

  16. Breslow razor-sharp compared to what we've come to expect. Well, maybe if you used that razor to do a little bit of gardening.
  17. Well, at least they got that hit (and now a couple of extras), so we don't have to root for Gimenez to pitch a scoreless inning AND break up a Cleveland no-hitter in the ninth.
  18. I'm not cranky, I'm just making wildly inappropes remarks about deceased persons! Maybe it's the case and a half of kombucha tea I drank since the game started.
  19. Thanks, and bummer. Missed that obit back in 1997, back when my internet was dialup and used solely for copyright violation.
  20. I hope you're right. Remember, they could go outside the organization and find all-new career minor leaguers too.
  21. While I tend to see Hughes more the way you do than yarnie does, I hope you understand that as a betting man, my money is still on whoever gets to the chainsaw first... http://cdn.collider.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/mad-max-beyond-thunderdome-mel-gibson.jpg
  22. Didn't know the right words to break the bad news to you, so... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTNBIZIMR0Y/R5eqwKUjCWI/AAAAAAAAAPk/m3DmKLiNemI/w1200-h630-p-k-no-nu/line+around+the+block.jpg
