  1. Y'all have taken a hard line before on moving and locking threads. My suggestion (not that you're asking) would be to lock up the "day 0" thread at midnight and start a day 3 thread.
  2. Cleveland's strength is its pitching. Pitching is historically more volitile year over year than hitting and more affected by injuries. They could have one pitcher get injured and one play like crap and all of a sudden they start to look pretty normal.
  3. It's because there was a day 0 thread but never a day 1 or day 2 thread. People don't know where to post.
  4. If Machado was open to a 4 year extension, he'd be in Baltimore for 5 more years
  5. The rumor comes from a Pirates fan site, not Seth. Which gives it more credibility than if it came from "us" And actually, the reaction from what seemed like Pirates fans on Twitter, was positive.
  6. I don't include Royce Lewis in any trade, unless it's a reasonably priced top 5 MLB pitcher with plenty of team control remaining AKA - I'm not trading Royce Lewis
  7. I would add a choice of Gonsalves/Romero to the rumored Cole package in order to get Archer instead. Is actually an interesting either/or. 4 years of Archer Or 2 years of Cole and 6 years of the prospect we lose.
  8. Worth at least noting is that even if Cole pitches below his current level, the Twins would likely get a valuable comp pick when (if) he leaves in two years.
  9. If the rumored trade proposal is accurate then I would think the reason MN is hesitating is because internally they are very high on Jay. You have to give some to get some so it's pretty obvious Gordon would be included. While I like Granite and think he's a valuable 4th OF for us this year, you don't hesitate to add to the front end of your pitching staff because of a 4th OF. So it has to be about Jay and the ceiling/floor our front office views for him.
  10. If we signed Darvish, then would you be ok with this trade?
  11. Most of the time, I think that's just an easy crutch by a writer. But, I have to think that some percentage of the time it is true. Maybe one of Levine's main tasks was coordination with Japanese media. Maybe, in the same way that the MN Twins FO splits other MLB teams and player agents roughly evenly between Falvey, Levine, and Antony, Texas did the same thing and Levine has Darvish's agent.
  12. Also, how incredibly fascinating would Tim Wakefield's spin rate pitchFX data be? I assume I could look at it for hours. "Oh, Shiiiiiiiiiit!!!!!! He got one in single digits!!!!!!"
  13. I'd be interested to know what the bell curve off MLB average spin rate looks like. Those two numbers don't really mean anything to 99.9% of people that follow baseball
  14. Yeah... I wonder if the FO earmarked $60M that we saved (over 4 years) by trading for Archer instead of signing Darvish, what they could do. It could be used for literally whatever they deemed necessary to build back the farm system assets that were used to get Archer. Basically they'd be buying comp picks, and Intl FA money, and have a full willingness to take on contracts with 1-2 year left, from teams like Miami who are begging to shed payroll. How much does a Comp A pick "cost" How much does $2M in Intl FA pool "cost" If we literally had $60M to play with could we end up with 5 comp A/B picks? How big of a Draft pool salary cap could one team amass? Nobody has tested those waters. Why not be the first?
  15. I can't remember the last player/team the national media thought the Yankees DIDN'T line up well with
  16. This is the kind of unsubstantiated opinion that makes me roll my eyes (no offense). At age 24, in 2013, Chris Archer was the 44th rated minor league prospect, after a 2012 3.8 ERA at AAA, with around 9.5K/9 Nobody would've said that 2013 Chris Archer's ceiling was actual Chris Archer's performance Pitching is fickle. I think talking about pitchers' ceilings is silly. There are too many examples every year of "WTF" to convince me that modern analytics have a great handle on pitchers. At the end of the day, results matter. Certain previous results can indicate likelihood of future success, but ceilings of successful minor league pitchers still seem more art than science. Having said all that, I have NO PROBLEM trading either of those minor leaguers for Cole or Archer
  17. And yet, someone who signed a minor league deal last offseason, has just been declared the best FA reliever of this class
  18. I mean, if you go strictly on what they paid him, he should be around Enlow. Realistically, in an open market, as is the case with Intl free agents, you'll have to overpay a bit. So he's probably 4-5 spots worse than Enlow
  19. I like the idea of an increasing value on WAR 1st WAR - 3m 2nd WAR - 5m 3rd WAR - 7m 4th WAR - 9m 5th WAR - 10m So... a 2 WAR player would be worth 8m annually and a 4 WAR player would be worth 24m annually Maybe my escalation numbers are a little low, but you get the idea
  20. Did I miss when Rooker hit like Babe Ruth? It's such an incredibly small sample, for a college graduate, in leagues he should dominate.... and he still struck out 26% of the time. I mean, I like him as a prospect, but I feel like there's serious Rooker overhyping going on here (and yes... I know the "rooker is my whole top 5" post was a joke)
  21. Just for the sake of argument, let's say Darvish and Ohtani sign here on the same day... That passes Parise/Suter, right? I would argue, other than actual championships, it's the biggest moment in MN Sports history.
