  1. This is exactly how he looked last season for a few weeks after he came back from injury and was making some adjustments to his swing. I recall a fair number of fans at that point were calling for Sano to be traded or outright cut. He went on to murder many baseballs, and he made those fans look like complete fools. Given his track record, I think he deserves at least a few more weeks to work himself out of this slump.
  2. They also managed to go 7-2 against CWS/STL/CLE, which looked to be their toughest stretch of games this season. Baseball!
  3. I don't think they'll want to mess with Sano by moving him again, he needs all the reps he can get at 1B. Gonzalez and Adrianza are more than capable of holding down 3B, and they're both better fielders than Sano anyway.
  4. It certainly was disappointing to see Rogers blow that save, but he didn't really get hit hard. Sometimes balls just find holes. What made me the angriest was Romo walking Dyson in the 8th, who then managed to steal second and third and cut the lead to one with no hits. You absolutely CANNOT give a free pass there to a guy with speed and a triple slash of .083/.120/.083.
  5. Hogwash. The Twins have better pitching than the Yankees according to most metrics, and the two teams have very similar offensive numbers. The Yankees do have more wins, obviously, but I'd say the Twins have about a 50/50 shot of taking a five game series from them. Especially given how well they've played on the road this season.
  6. Can you show your work? I prefer my odds to be backed up with cold, hard data. I think a sweep by either team is unlikely. Obviously, TBD vs. Clevinger doesn't look too promising, but I'm comforted by the fact that both Odo and Berrios are pitching this series. I think they take at least one of those games, maybe both.
  7. Judging by the one win and two close losses this weekend, clearly they CAN and ARE competing head-to-head vs. Cleveland.
  8. Well, that sucks. But everyone needs to take a deep breath, they're still 5.5 games up with 20 games left. This team has shown this season that they're capable of battling through adversity. They've got more mental toughness than the negative comment brigade here thinks they do.
  9. Yeesh... a lot of you must have some serious blisters with all of the hand-wringing going on around here.
  10. Retaliate for a stupid move by the Rangers with a stupid move of our own, thus inviting a beanball war and putting our players at even more risk of injury? Brilliant. The Rangers have nothing to lose. They're not making the playoffs so I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige in that asshattery rather than actually playing the game. Beat the hell out of them on the scoreboard where it actually matters.
  11. Why should this be considered a "brain cramp" by Cave? Should guys be expected to stand up there in a blowout and just leave the bat on their shoulder? Especially for a guy like Cave, who's a young player fighting for more playing time, these guys should be up there battling in every at-bat. It's ridiculous that he feels the need to apologize, and it's even more ridiculous that the pitcher still felt the need to drill Kepler. I also hope the Twins don't let this stupid crap escalate any further; make them pay on the scoreboard. Intentional beanballs are for childish losers.
  12. Fangraphs did call him the best reliever traded at the deadline... I'm more inclined to trust his past year and a half of solid performance rather than his two rough outings with the Twins so far with a sore arm. Give him a couple of weeks off, and I think he'll return to form and be a solid setup man again. However, it does suck that he probably won't provide much (if any) value to the team in August, and that alone makes the trade look a lot worse.
  13. You mean the same Craig Kimbrel who has pitched to the tune of a 5.68 ERA, 6.77 FIP, -0.4 fWAR, and is currently on the IL? I think the Twins did well to avoid signing him. I do agree that they absolutely dropped the ball in the offseason by making Blake Parker their top bullpen acquisition, which put them in a very tough spot at the trade deadline. And the three relievers that Atlanta picked up at the deadline haven't exactly had great results so far. I'd still take the Twins' pen over Atlanta's at this point (assuming Dyson can bounce back and pitch like his normal self soon).
  14. These are National League games. In both instances, they were taken out because their spot in the lineup came up and they were pinch hit for. I think every other manager in the league would make the same decision. I'm also willing to bet that Rocco would've left both of them in if it was an American League game.
