    I think that managing a 13 man pitching staff is tough when the starters only go 5 innings and sometimes less. I would like to see our starters average 6 innings and sometimes go longer. Then managing a long reliever on an occasional short start along with the one inning guys would be much easier. We could start by DFAing Pagan and fill his spot with the long guy, Maybe Dobnak, or Winder would be my picks. Just can't see why they keep holding out hope for Pagan. Maybe I'm wrong, I even hope so but I just get a sick feeling every time he comes in the game. Emelio, make me eat my words. In any case I think it needs to begin with longer starts. And I think we have the staff to make that happen. 6+ would be my goal.

    Really makes our depth on the Big League squad and also the minors look very good. With good health some of these pieces can be used as trade bait at the deadline.

    I think that maybe you just had a dream that you had a time machine. Howeverrrr, If it were a real time machine, I think it may be defective. But I like the way you think. I'm just going to watch the season play out without such high expectations yet hope your machine is close. See you at the ballpark. Edit: Except for the Brooks lee trade. That ain't gonna happen. (fingers crossed)

    I believe you are correct that they could actually drop a pitcher, but I highly doubt that they would go with 12 pitchers. Not with Rocco's penchant for over-using the pen. That leaves the players mentioned in the previous post which I "strongly agree with".

    When I read the Headline of the article, yeah, I did the eyeroll. Nearly skipped the article completely because I liked what the Twins have done this offseason. Also, I get tired of the doom and gloom pessimistic fans that seem to be very prevalent in my state of sports. Then thought to myself how deserved this attitude is. So I read the article and I absulutely loved your take on this. Always believed that a lack of spending (wisely) makes it difficlult to compete but I didn't know exactly where we stood comparatively. I really like your statistical breakdown of where we stand (have stood). So now my thoughts are: The Pohlads are billionaires. What would it do to their family wealth by spending another, oh lets say 50% on payroll? Probably wouldn't change their lifestyle at all. What would spending another 50% (wisely) on payroll do for the team w/l record? Probably a great deal. I don't pretend to think my opinion matters to anyone, especially the Pohlads, but man, going to the WS would sure be fun and exciting again. In any case, I can't control what I can't control, so I will continue to be a homer and enjoy the games. See you at the ballpark.

    Whether it's the Pohlads or Falvine or the combination, I like what they have done this year as a whole. The starting staff looks better than we've seen in many years. We have a better than average defense in my opinion, an offense with very good potential. Plus our depth looks very very good. Looking forward to an exciting season. See you at the ballpark.

    I agree that the lineup will change often and even have me shaking my head sometimes. I hope when things settle out, we will see Larnach and Kirilloff in the 4 and 5 spots against RH pitching with Miranda and Vasquez in the 4 and 5 holes against Lefties. But with Rocco's lineups, you never know.

    As someone said: It really doesn't matter. But I think it kinda does. It's supposedly an honor to get the opening day start. So I would put my rotation in order right from the start. And since this is just an opinion, I would go with Gray, Lopez, Ryan, Maeda, Mahle. And as I type in the names and in order it looks like a pretty darned impressive rotation. Hopefully we can keep them all relatively healthy. Also, I wouldn't have a problem plugging Ober into any one of those spots when needed. I'm getting kinda pumped. See you at the ballpark.

    I said between 90-95 cuz I'm also an optimistic homer plus I like our team. I think all the injuries are what kept us from winning 85-90 last year. This year we have drastically improved our depth, on the pitching side and the position player side, and with a litlle luck on the side of health, we should be much better than last year.     I think if Larnach is healthy we'll see a trade of Gallo, Kepler or possibly Gordon at the trade deadline. I'm very high on Larnach and I believe if he stays healthy he will be one of our top run producers.

    I think the main focus should be on this year and winning the division, not quite so much the future. I'm thinking that we have alot of depth for this years playoff run. 1b - Kirilloff, Farmer, Solano, Miranda, Gallo 2b-Polanco, Farmer, Solano, Lewis, Lee ss-Correa, Farmer, Lewis 3b-Miranda, Farmer, Solano, Lewis, Lee C- Vasquez, Jeffers lf-Gallo, Gordon, Larnach,Taylor, Martin cf-Buxton, Taylor, Gordon, Gallo, Martin rf-Kepler, Gallo, Larnach, Taylor We have a lot of pieces we could move around and still be solid everywhere. I don't think we should be trading anyone before the deadline unless injuries dictate it, or we could pick up another solid catcher. To me it's the catcher position that intrigues me the most. That is where an injury to one of Vasquez or Jeffers could really drag the team down. As for the future, I don't see any reason to give up on any of our top prospects at this point. It is very possible that several of the prospect position players become stars. I think we should play this season as we stand and worry about 24 after 23 is over. I think with any luck in the health department we win the division. And playoffs is like a whole new season. Anything can happen. See you at the ballpark. Should be a fun and exciting season.

    Is Martin a trade chip? We Have: Correa Buxton for at least 6 years. Polanco, Kepler as veteran starters with value. Miranda, Kirilloff, Larnach, Gordon all young players with multiple years of control. Lewis, Lee, Julian, Wallner, Martin all highly touted prospects we would like to see as full time major leaguers as soon as next year. With Rodriguez, Rodriguez, Salas in two to three years. That's 16 position players for 7 positions. I like them all and want them all to succeed at a high level in MLB. But I don't see it happening for one team. I think someone is going to be traded and Martin may be highly sought after if he should have an above average year. Would love to see him with the Twins, But I wouldn't be surprised to see two or three of these guys traded.

    I think that by far the most volatile segment of our team is the bullpen. And by using the word volatile, I mean that it could go either way. We have several relievers that show good stuff, including Pagan. And I'm ok with giving him a shot early. If things go south you have to DFA him. But with the possibility of his results being average to very good, you take a chance. Agree on the short leash. But, you could say the same thing about most of the pen. Talent-wise this could end up being one of the best pens in the league. But we have to be able to adjust according to results. I hope Pagan makes us all eat crow by seasons end. But if he's bad, let him try his luck with another team.

    Not quite sure why you would say that. If Dobnak could miraculously come back and pitch well enough to beat out Ober / Varland / SWR / Winder / Canterino / Festa / Henriquez, and Paddack, why shouldn't he get that shot. Not to cut down any of these guys, but have any of them other than Ober done in the bigs what Dobnak has done or shown promise of? Personally, I will not count him out until he has counted himself out. And I love rooting for a longshot, which he may be, but it is not out of the realm of possibility. And what a great story his comeback would make.

    Actually, I think there may still be a trade before the regular season starts. I think it will be Kepler or Larnach.(praying it's not Larnach). Howeverrrr, I still don't think that Kepler is a bad hitter. I think he is an average hitter who was bothered by the toe injury last year. Ok, he has had two sub-par years, but I can very easily see him getting his avg. up to .250 with 25 homers. And with his superior defense, I could like that alot. I may be in the minority here, but I just don't think Kepler is as bad an offensive player as he is being credited lately. I look for a bounce back from Kep, yet I think he would be the most likely trade chip to unclog our outfield redundancy. I still think Larnach will be a star and will take over RF when he starts to shine. In any case, however things turn out, I am excited for baseball and I'll see you at the ballpark.

    Wow. As an older fan, I think that computers and technology and money have changed the game so much that it can be difficult to keep up with all the analytics. I often find myself having to google all the abreviations used to describe performance. I long for the days of just people watching and seeing what is happening on the diamond. Baseball in the 60's and 70's to me was much more fun to watch. Maybe that was because I was a kid. I still love the game, but money and tech have sure changed things.

    I agree with "DMAN" on this. We replaced Gio with Farmer. And I also believe that one or more of our LH corner outfielders will be traded by opening day, probably Kepler, but possibly Larnach or Walner (hopefully not Larnach, I have high expectations for him) or a combination in a package deal. I'd love to see a more traditional good hitting 1B with power. But I am really rooting for AK to be that guy. Speculation is fun, but getting anxious for ST. See you at the ballpark!

    This is the type of player I would like to see transformed to catcher albeit with a little better arm. We draft alot of shortstops with great athleticism which I think could be taught the tools of ignorance. Smart and athletic could be a ticket to mlb. But I rarely hear of this kind of transferrance. So, maybe I'm just crazy.

    I don't think the Twins will do anything with free agents until spring training. I don't think they want to drop anyone from the 40 man, so until they gain 3 spots via IL, they won't sign anyone unless it is a trade of someone already on our 40 man roster. Once they gain those 3 spots, I believe they will be going after another relief arm. Howeverrrrr, a trade of a LH batting corner outfielder could still be a possibility.
