  1. My view as well. Hypothetically If the price/contract is the same, I think I'd rather have Maeda over Price. I would have gladly slotted Price in this rotation but Maeda has a higher floor.
  2. And Kohl Stewart. Also, don't forget Alex Meyer was recently the Twins top pitching prospect.
  3. Agreed. Although I bet he ends up being halfway between the next Fernando Romero and the next Trevor May. He will maybe be very useful in a bullpen role, eventually.
  4. I like it. For once we sell high on an unproven prospect and get a proven starting pitching asset. Maeda has been reliable and pretty durable, he's controlled for four years, and he's cheap. Oh, and he's actually pretty good. The likelihood Graterol becomes Romero V2 are quite high. The likelihood he ever starts in the rotation was low. Graterol only has 50 something innings above A ball.
  5. Exactly what I was going to say, except Smeltzer also seems to understand his plan and pitch mix. He also has good control. I just don't think Smeltzer's ceiling is that high. He's got that high spin rate FB, but below average velo and average secondary stuff.
  6. Smeltzer has outstanding control over multiple pitches and elite spin rate. I think he is more MLB ready to start than Thorpe. Littel will not start.
  7. The price for these guys will be much lower than it was last year at the deadline though. All of them are half a year rentals except Jon Gray. However, I also would bet the Twins DON'T get any of these guys. They will say that Rich Hill is their trade deadline impact starting pitching acquisition.
  8. Yeah, he was downright dreadful after he was dealt. I'd bet he returns to 220 innings of low 3 ERA ball in 2020 though.
  9. Agreed on those teams. Colorado has Story for two more years and Arenado for at least two more years. They thought they'd be contending last year and they're not tanking this year. At the deadline, there might be a few more arms available who I would want, like Robbie Ray, Jon Gray, Trevor Bauer, Marcus Stroman or Mike Minor. I think the Rangers will be good or a least decent though. Not sure on the Reds. Not sure I want Chris Archer.
  10. And the Reds got Castellanos. So say goodbye to Trevor Bauer on the Twins for now.
  11. Thanks, this is interesting and encouraging. I'm now going to check BR to see who he pitched against in those 28 innings... 11 innings vs Cle 5.1 vs KC 7 vs Det 3 vs CWS 1 vs Bos 1 vs Nats Mostly not good offenses. But it's not like 20 of the 28 innings were against the Orioles.
  12. I predict he silences the haters and leads the 2020 Twins in WAR. He will be the best 9 hole hitter in the league.
  13. The Twins had a 4 year/84 million dollar deal on the table for over a month. When news came out that Donaldson wanted 110 million the Twins thought they were out. But no one bit. Adding the 5th year option to bring the total to 100 million was what did it.
  14. I've mentioned before on other posts ( I think Aaron Gleeman has on the podcast too) that Cave and Rosario have very similar trade value. Cave is cheaper and has more years of control. Their ops was virtually identical last year because Cave walks (a lot) more.

    Trade Now?

If there's anything going on you'll hear about it on TD. The local sports media up here is still primarily talking about the Vikings, and secondarily talking about the super bowl and the packers loss.
  16. Matt Antonelli said on one of his youtube videos that knowing what pitch is coming is the biggest advantage you can have as a hitter. More advantageous than taking steroids. So there's one former mlb player who said that, though I'm sure he wasn't on the xm radio interview. He also mentioned the home/road astros splits from postseason 2017.
  17. This is really complete, thanks for doing the research. I added this in another thread, but I'm intrigued by Salazar and Walker. Would definitely take a flier for a ST invite, 1mil if they make the team for either or both of them. Exact deal that Felix got from the Braves. Don't start the clock on Balazovic yet.
  18. You're missing my point. My point is that Josh Donaldson does more for clubhouse chemistry, morale and leadership than Hyun Jin Ryu. That's it.
  19. I like Rosie on this team. He provides other benefits besides his numbers. No question his defense is not elite, but saying that Kiriloff is better defensively or faster is flat out not true. Kiriloff is slow and not good in left, which is why he played a lot of first base last season. Trevor Larnach's swing actually reminds me a lot of Rosie, but Larnach is more selective at the plate and takes walks. Larnach is also average to above average in right field. Cave and Rosario have very similar trade value to another team because Cave is younger, cheaper and has more years of control, plus he can play center in a pinch. If a team is asking about Rosario, I would ask them if they want Cave instead. Pick one.
  20. Agreed. I was thinking he'd start in April-May, then transition to the pen depending on who is pitching well and who is healthy. They must not think his secondary pitches are good enough or are really concerned about workload. We could always do the Chris Paddack type workload limit as a starter though.
  21. I've had teammates and clients who don't speak english. Nothing against them personally but if you don't speak the same language as someone it's more difficult to build a relationship with them. Speaking through an interpreter is hard sometimes.
  22. Walker and Salazar are intriguing to me as well. Salazar is going to be a huge flier but some team will sign him for not that much money, he is not old, and he is not that removed from an all star season.
  23. I would most definitely have not. One guy has been a 5 war player 6 of the last 7 years and one has pitched 180 innings only twice in the last 7 years. One plays every day. They're the same age. The cost is similar. One is a competitive veteran clubhouse presence superstar with lots of postseason experience and more swagger than anyone. The other doesn't speak english. Absolutely no comparison in my eyes.
  24. I don't think the Red Sox would require much if we agreed to pay Price's salary. But I don't think they'll sell yet. And I'm not sure Falvey wants Price.
