  1. Really? Robot umps are bad for the game because there will be fewer angry managers arguing with umpires and fans won’t have someone to hate? That’s a hockey mentality where fans get lathered over violence on the ice. I hope that despising umpires is way down on the list of the reasons to go to a game for most of us.
  2. My guess to get Montas is it would take Lewis, who the Twins shouldn’t trade, or Martin, plus a package of two others like Balzovic and maybe Arraez or another high minors pitcher like Duran. If the FO can do that without any players likely to be in the big leagues this year do it! Definitely don’t want to see Lewis traded.
  3. A trade for Manea makes some sense even if it’s a one year deal. That wouldn’t require as many prospects in trade and give them a chance to find out which young starters have a chance. Thorpe has the potential to be excellent in the BP. I’m not that big on Jax as a starter so let’s see if the BP is a step forward for him.
  4. Because of the mental aspect of the game baseball players, more than any other sport, can resurrect their careers after a down year. Because Sanchez struggled he was under tremendous pressure in the NY media microscope and that would wear on most players. Let’s hope a change of scenery and new coaches make a difference, at least offensively. I’m still not sure how Sanchez and Jeffers can both get enough playing time, given Sanchez’ poor defense. I still think another trade might be in the works.
  5. Definitely a “wow” moment for this franchise! Make a big splash for likely one year, which gives Lewis time to show if he can play shortstop. The next logical step would be a package that includes prospects like Austin Martin, Balazovic and other and high minors SP depth for Montas or another starter. Go Twins! Just don’t mortgage the future for one season of 90 wins and a short playoff run.
  6. Another trade to move Sanchez or Sano MUST be in the works. Sanchez is a redundant piece on this roster unless Sano or Sanchez is traded. At least there are twice as many teams that need a DH.
  7. Right now the trade for Sanchez makes no sense unless they trade him or Sano for pitching. If Sano is moved Sanchez could be the primary DH and third catcher.. There won’t be enough at bats for both at DH. The trade weakens catching defense and shortstop while adding nothing to DH over Sano. Another trade or FA signing must be in the works. (FYI, “ variety of different opinions” is redundant).
  8. There has been some complaining on this website that the FO wasn’t doing enough. Well fasten your seat belts! The yankee trade was a big surprise but it only makes sense if the FO makes another move for a shortstop like Story with the money saved by trading Donaldson. Story at short instead of Donaldson at third is a win for the team. And they wanted to make room for Miranda and this helps. But Sanchez doesn’t make sense as a backup catcher and part time DH so I wonder if he’ll be moved too.
  9. He has not met my expectations. He looked like a Miguel Cabrera clone when he first came up, massive power and could put the ball into play and would go the other way with a pitch. Now it’s all about pulling every pitch, strikeouts be damned. If he would strive for more contact he’d still hit 30+ home runs, 100+ rbi and average .275.
  10. I agree with your take. If the teams was poised to contend, with a solid and proven rotation, then adding a SP with the upside of Montas makes sense. Or if Montas had three or more years of control. But we all get tired of the signing of past their prime starters who fail to produce. Let’s see what the young arms can do.

  11. We’ll see if the power comes but he looks to be an on base machine with great speed, something Arraez lacks. I like his upside and you never have too much speed. They will find a place for him and go from there.
  12. If Rocker is the best player available, is dominant in indy leagues, and his medicals are shared and are ok take him. But there are red flags: Medical reports obviously. Also how many prospects have been unsigned, chose the independent league and had a solid MLB career? And finally the Boras connection gives me pause, though they must have players on the roster represented by Boras.
  13. I hope he has number 1 potential but I’d be very happy if he has Berrios’ ceiling, front of the rotation stuff if not a Verlander type ace. They have lots of quality arms coming up. Let’s hope several of them pan out as good starters.
  14. At the time his contract wasn’t a mistake. He has rare power and the FO was hoping he would resemble the player he was when he first came up. He looked to me like a young Miguel Cabrera where he would go with the pitch and not try to pull everything. But he’s become an all or nothing slugger and I doubt that he will change his hitting philosophy. I don’t think Sano’s modest improvement in contact during the last third of the 2021 season was about MLB cracking down on pitchers as has been suggested. His pitch recognition improved enough to bring his average to .218 from .150. but let’s not celebrate such modest improvement as a future trend.
  15. Agree it’s time to see what the minor league starters can do. Five or six seem poised to make the roster so let’s find out. The FO isn’t going to sign an number one or two free agent starter anyway so without that making the playoffs is unlikely. I like the idea of signing Story but that’s unlikely for this franchise.
  16. It’s good to see to many prospects with big arms littered through the minors. No more Tom Kelly “pitch to contact” philosophy thank goodness.
  17. As I have suggested in the past please include height and weight of these prospects. It’s relevant to know their physical stature for the position they play.
  18. Petty oozes charisma and charm, which is nice to see. As others have pointed out TJ surgery is always lurking for high octane high school arms. One thing I would add to all of these columns is the height and weight of each prospect.
  19. I’d be reluctant to extend him past the two years he’s under contract. That gives the FO time to see if Jeffers is progressing and is the catcher of the future.
  20. I like Arraez a lot, an old fashioned contact hitter who rarely strikes out. Having a surplus of good players at certain positions is a nice problem to have. But if a trade including Arraez can bring a proven young starter I think the FO should consider it. Gordon can serve as the utility player role with a lot more speed than Arraez. The team appears to have a lot of potential young starting pitchers who could make a ML roster. But their lack of proven pitching is the team’s biggest issue right now.
  21. Let’s just hope that several of these pitchers can be effective starters and that at least one of them is a 1 or 2 starter. Twins haven’t had that for awhile, maybe since Liriano.
  22. Speed and ability to hit for average, steal bases, and play excellent defense is a big plus. Power can be over rated. Martin might be a Robin Yount clone offensively. T’ain’t bad! Let’s see what he can do. No trade!
  23. I think it’s a good idea that the Twins, and every team, should do a video tribute at the beginning of each season to prior teammates lost during the past year. This would be consistent with baseball’s emphasis on history and teams could probably work a marketing angle too.
  24. Not convinced yet of Ober. He had some good moments but seldom was allowed to pitch into the fifth inning, so his ability to eat innings is unknown. That says fifth starter to me, which would be ok. Hope Baldelli shows a little more trust in him in 2022 and he earns it. Also not too optimistic on Jax but he’ll probably get some more chances.
  25. Martin AND Lewis plus pitchers is too high a price for two years of Castillo, especially since the Buxton extension is not done. How about one of the two from Martin and Lewis, Kepler, and a pitcher.
