  1. When he is ready, that player may be Nick Gordon, as he gets time here and there at MLB until he is totally ready.
  2. With today's short benches, teams almost need a player on the bench with an option left that can be moved up and down to AAA depending on how many pitchers a team needs to be carrying at the time. Same thing for pitchers, they need guys with options that can be moved up and down when fresh arms are needed.
  3. Tyler Jay did not have TOS surgery. At one point they believed that was the problem, but further diagnosis determined it wasn't necessary.
  4. I think we are going to see the Twins trade for several pieces and not go the free agent route so much. They have a lot of prospects and can't protect them all, so they need to spend some of that capital. I like the Castro idea, especially since he might come cheaper in prospect capital due to his salary requirements for the Marlins. Sonny Gray might be a target for pitching. I think he just needs out of New York. And don't forget they will need somebody to pair with Austin at 1B in case he needs a platoon. There may be some relief pitchers to target via trade as well. Mychal Givens comes to mind. And some of the young starter candidates may end up in the bullpen as well.
  5. There's no way the Twins should touch this situation. If they commit 30-35 million a year to Machado, what are they going to do when the rest of their supporting cast reaches arbitration or free agency and they can't afford them. Then it wil be Machado and not much else just like it turned in to Mauer and not much else. Just because there are dollars available in this year's budget doesn't mean you can make a 10 year committment like this. If he ends up being a shell of himself like Mauer did, you have your hands tied for another decade. Too much risk. Let the big boys fight it out to take on that risk.
  6. While I am certainly not going to go all in supporting the front office, I must say that an important part of player development is PLAYER. if the player can't perform and refuses to follow instruction to get better, development lags. That seems like it may be a possibility in both cases here. And the success rate of players being promoted to the major leagues is very, very small anyway. And they don't all mature at the same rate. Look at Aaron Hicks.
  7. You use an option whether you send him down before the season or after the start of the season. Makes no difference.
  8. Your are correct. If they are activated they can be placed on the major league disabled list. But then you are paying them a major league salary and benefits, as well as giving them valuable service time to get them closer to arbitration. I don't think teams go this route unless absolutely necessary. I think in Burdi's case he is probably consider on the active roster due to the Rule 5 distinction, so he could be placed on the 60 day list. In Chargois case, the team avoided activating him and placing him on the 60 day almost all season and had to release other players from their roster during the season in order to activate others to fill team needs, which shows what having that spot tied up causes. They would have had the same situation again this year if he was still unable to pitch to start this season. I think they have determined that those spots are just too valuable to have tied up with players that are unable to perform.
  9. One thing nobody has ever mentioned when discussing rostering Bard or Burdi and now Chargois is what the injury history would do to tie up the 40-man roster during the season. It is likely that none of them would make the 25 man roster to start the season if they were still with the Twins. If they are playing in the minor leagues and get injured (or in Burdi's case was injured last year) they can not be placed on the 60 Day disabled list on the 40 man roster, but must go on the minor league disabled list, which then ties up a 40 man roster spot that can not be used for another useful player. That is the reason that the front office feels they can not have these guys on their 40 man roster.
  10. The trick is to balance letting the young guys mature and capitalizing on a chance at a pennant run.
  11. I really don't see any of these guys as a fit except Carlos Gomez, and he may too expensive. And I don't see any RH batters in either AAA or AA at this point that could work. So I say go with what we have and hope they get it going.
  12. So maybe these added prospects give the Twins added flexibility to expend some prospects to acquire pitching through the trade avenue. Since they couldn't acquire Shohei Ohtani, maybe they can use the resources to help acquire another valuable asset.
