Correa Gives Twins a Best in Baseball
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Considering the opt-out clauses, Correa is the one in control. If the Twins don't make a couple more significant moves to improve the team for this season Correa's presence won't make a difference and he'll be gone either at the trade deadline or he'll leave at the end of season 1. Now there is even more pressure on Falvine to bring in the rest of the pieces needed to win.- 21 replies

Breaking Down the Twins Signing Carlos Correa
rv78 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
UNBELIEVABLE! I am still trying to pick myself up off the floor. This will only make sense when tomorrow we here that they traded him away for Sanchez and Urshela Clones. Ok FO, time to finish the picture and get 1, hopefully 2 quality starters to fill out the rotation and make this Correa signing worthwhile, otherwise it won't put you over the hump. -
Gary Sanchez is Not a Miguel Sano Clone
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wish both players were on a different team. Bad enough to have 1 creating a hole in the lineup now we have another. 2 big trades and this team has gotten significantly worse. I can hardly wait to see what they do next. -

What to Expect From New Twins Catcher José Godoy
rv78 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Rortvedt hasn't been a big bat for the Twins but now that he's a Yankee I'd be willing to bet he'll find it. We all know why the trade was made. the Twins value money over talent and their desire to unload the big Donaldson contract cost them talent. Pure, plain and simple.... money over talent. I's not hard to read between the lines. -
2022 PECOTA Standings: The 2022 Twins can be Great
rv78 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He should have stated that they were the two best "full-time" righthanded hitters. Part-time players usually aren't included in discussions. Knowing the Twins way they will opt for Pathway #4.- 37 replies

The Twins hang on to under-performers way too long. Thorpe is one of them. Instead of giving the next player on the depth chart a chance they'll go with Thorpe, He'll perform average at best and the guy who should have gotten a chance to pitch in his spot will spend the year in AAA ball racking up good numbers. At some point all AAA players who don't get the call have to wonder why they aren't considered good enough to get the call, especially when the player they could replace isn't performing well.

Can Change-of-Scenery Help Sanchez?
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It appears this FO likes guys that can hit .199 or less and 30 HR's while ignoring their lack of defensive capabilities. They have taken what was probably the best catching situation of most teams in all of baseball and made it a question mark.- 53 replies

4 Things We Know After the Stunning Twins-Yankees Trade
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can understand the desire to get out from under Donaldsons contract. But doesn't that directly point to the FO making a mistake signing him in the first place? Did they think he would bring them a ring and just now realize he is deteriorating quickly? That his contract will be a detriment going forward? Short-sightedness is again, a mistake. Is trading for Sonny Gray really that good of a move? He's 31 and has had only 1 good season, 2019 in the last 6 and even then he only pitched 175 innings. Hardly a work horse or an Ace. Bailey Ober is the only Starter that is in the rotation this Front Office has drafted. Can we admit, so far they have failed. They had to trade for Maeda and Joe Ryan, have signed worthless Free Agents in Shoemaker, Happ, Martin Perez, Bartolo Colon, and others who are washed-up veterans. You will probably be able to add Dylan Bundy to that list. I feel that Falvine has taken the Terry Ryan approach and has decided to try to "Catch Lightning in a Bottle" or use the old "Hope and a Prayer" method. Now we trade away the best hitting catcher in the league and a first round pick in Petty for a decent SS and another prospect and then turn around and get a terrible hitting and fielding catcher and average 3B/SS in return for that SS, losing a really good young defensive catcher in the process. Seems we have gone backwards and for what? Money. Unless that money is spent for a top SS or Starting Pitcher "IN THEIR PRIME" and not some aging veteran this FO is making really bad moves and doesn't know what they are doing.- 120 replies

Assessing the Twins Petty-for-Gray Trade
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Disagree with most of you. First they trade away what is arguably the best hitting catcher in the majors then acquire a pitcher who is in the decline of his career for a promising top draft pick. Both of these moves could have been avoided if they wouldn't value cash more than talent and sign top level Free Agents in the first place. You get better long-term and for longevity by hanging on to your top prospects, not trading them for 1 or 2 year fill-in fixes because you have mis-managed your major league roster and left your rotation bare. Should have kept Garver and brought up Martin to play SS. Kiner-Falefa will be marginally better than Simmons was and Martin will be left in AAA to rot for another season. Why are the Twins prospects so bad that they have to look elsewhere to fill the holes on the roster? If the up and coming pitchers in the minors are that bad they should have signed 2 good starters out of Free Agency and kept Petty for the future.- 26 replies

I know many of you are excited that an agreement has been reached and we will have baseball in 2022 but I have gotten to the point where I don't care anymore. The greed of the players and the owners has turned me off and I won't be going to any games for quite some time, if ever again. The only thing the lockout accomplished in my book is that it showed that neither the players nor the owners care about the fans. If I could accomplish one thing, it would be to have all of the fans boycott going to any games this season. I think the players and owners think that they are the only ones in the game. It's really time to prove to them otherwise by showing them it's the fans that are the most important, not themselves!

Your 2022 Twins Sleeper Rotation Arm
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In 2022 if we have major league baseball, my sleeper arm will be Randy Dobnak. His ability in the past to make me shut the TV off and go to bed is when I do my best sleeping. -
Second Deadline Passes, Still No Deal
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As a fan, I'm extremely disappointed. As a person, I could care less if the owners or players ever make another dollar. Both sides are letting greed get in the way of playing the game. Multi-million dollar contracts for players who can't hit .200 or pitch 6 innings are absurd. $100 tickets to sit in a stadium with $10 beers and $7 peanuts is absurd. If you think minor league baseball or independant ball is inferior I challenge you to take a look and enjoy a game played by people who play it for the love of the game, not for the dollar. By the way, it won't cost you an arm and a leg to go to it either. It's time to stop giving the greedy self-centered you know whos your money. -
The Twins Shouldn't Trade for an Ace
rv78 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That would be a huge over-pay. The Twins just traded away Berrios for 2 prospects. Why would you trade away an established big-league hitter in Arraez and 3 prospects to get a Berrios like pitcher in Montas back? That makes no sense at all. Going backwards on that 4 for 1 deal would be an understatement and the A's would be smiling all the way to the bank just like the Yankees do everytime the Twins trade with them. The FO has missed the boat as the best quality Free Agent arms are all but gone this year. If they trade for an established pitcher that will actually help them this year they will have to pay and it'll be through the nose. The biggest problem is that 1 established quality arm that would help them isn't enough. They need 2. As much as it pains me to say it, I'd rather see them punt 2022. See what they have in Duran, Balazovic, Canterino, Enlow, Canterino, Sands, Vallimont, Strotman, Woods-Richardson and go for it 2023 with the return of Maeda. It'll give them a longer look at Ryan and Ober as well and build them up to be full-time starters, which they won't be in 2022 because of their limited innings pitched to this point. Also bring up Miranda and Martin, give Larnach and Celestino another shot. Find out what you have in Kirilloff and Jeffers. Then make the moves needed to be competitive in 2023 at the trade deadline and during the off-season next year. Who knows, there might not even be major-league baseball this year.- 74 replies

Twins Daily 2022 Top Prospects: #1 Austin Martin
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I enjoyed this article except for this: "It’s not a lack of strength but a conscious choice to give up contact quality in favor of avoiding the strikeout, and that can be changed — he certainly hasn’t always hit this way," says Law. "I absolutely believe the Twins are already addressing this." If the Twins try to change his ability to get on base in favor of more power, he doesn't need to turn into a strikeout machine either. I believe the Twins tried to mess with Buxton at the plate and that didn't work. Sometimes it's best to leave things/players alone. Be grateful yo have an on-base machine and use it to your advantage. Rod Carew wasn't a HR hitter. Luis Arraez isn't a HR hitter. Take what a player is good at and use it. Don't mess with it. I'd be happy if he hits .300, gets on base at a .400 clip and hits 10-15 HRs. -
Twins Trading Offers Exciting Opportunity
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am in the same house as Game7-91. Why trade a Berrios for prospects if you are going to trade prospects for a different Berrios type pitcher in return? If it is all about team control for another year or two then all you are doing is setting yourself up for the same problem over and over. The only answer I can come up with is the main thing this organization is known for.... cheap, cheap, cheap. Maybe it's time for them to change their name from the Twins to the Chicks.- 19 replies

CBA Musings (2/18): What’s Happening and What’s Next
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I guess it is time for the fans to go on-strike against the owners and the players. Even if we have baseball this year quit attending games. Fans need to stand outside the stadium and demand that parking, game tickets, and consession prices be cut by 50% or we won't come back. If the owners and players aren't happy with the amount of money they are already making then we should not continue to support them. Any increase either of them get by these negotiations will be passed onto the customer. I'm getting real tired of giving people that are already over-paid my hard-earned 50 hour a week money just to support their play ball as a profession lifestyle or own a team money bag. Seriously, the fans are being taken for granted and it's time to remind them who is really paying their salaries and filling their wallets. -
The Twins Rotation Isn’t That Far From Fixing

Getting Montas is a fantasy unless they package a top prospect with a guy like Arraez and then I start to think it is an overpay. Odo and Pineda are more likely.- 36 replies

What Does Max Kepler Have to Prove in 2022?
rv78 replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"You can forget about trading him. If he starts hitting you keep him because then he is a really good player. If he isn’t hitting you will get nothing in return and the chance that he figures it out will be more valuable than the lottery tickets you will get in trade." Isn't this the situation with any player? It is only when you have multiple options at a position does it become feasible to trade that player when he is performing at a high level so other teams would give you a good return in exchange. The Twins have that currently with Arraez. He is a really good hitter but doesn't have a home in the field. Polanco and 2B, Donaldson at 3B. He can't play SS. Sano and Kirilloff have 1B covered. Buck and Kepler in CF and RF. That leaves LF and he showed us last year he's not an outfielder. I love Arraez but unfortunately his best position is 2B and Polanco isn't going anywhere. Between Donaldson, Arraez, Sano, Kirilloff, and probable new comer Miranda there will be 5 guys to fill 3 spots. That's where the trade bait needs to come from. So who goes? -
What Does Max Kepler Have to Prove in 2022?
rv78 replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While he is an asset in the field he has become a liability at the plate. The 2019 Bomba Squad did more to ruin the players on the Twins roster than it did to help them. Too many guys are going up to the plate looking to pull the ball and only hit Home Runs when they should be trying to just make good solid contact and hit the ball to all fields. There needs to be a dramatic shift away from being pull happy and home run happy for the Kepler's and Sano's to become successful again. If they don't change their approach at the plate the results will stay the same..... Batting averages around .200, with high strikeouts or hitting into shifts for easy outs. The biggest thing in baseball is making adjustments. The successful players do it, the ones that don't fail. Kepler needs to adjust. -
3 Players That Could Surprisingly Help the 2022 Twins
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hoping all 3 improve over last season. Chances are it will only be 1 or 2 that will get better. As far as helping the Twins Celestino could have the biggest impact. With LF still open and the Buxton injury bug always just around the corner, we really don't want to see Jake Cave getting significant time anywhere in the outfield, so let's hope Celestino can fill some shoes. I agree with the points on Gordon... why can't he play SS at the major league level? Have been wondering that since he was brought up and Simmons did nothing at the plate. I consider Rortvedt a second coming of Drew Butera. Great defensively but will probably never contribute much with the bat. I'd like to see him prove me wrong.- 55 replies

One Fan's Opinion: Miguel Sano for Primary DH
rv78 replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It'll be interesting to see what kind of shape Sano is in when he comes back for 2022, knowing he said he was going to lose some weight this off-season. With the current lockout he may have even more time to get that done. While the guy can hit the ball as far as anyone I wish he'd change his approach at the plate completely, and until he does, I don't think anything will change even if he comes into the new year in better shape. He has to quit swinging for the fences every time he takes a swing. Instead of using every ounce of energy to hit the ball as hard as he can, turn down the power and just try to make solid contact. If he could hit 25 HR, 40 doubles and bat .250 he'd be a much more productive hitter. Have the coaches in the system even tried to get him to do that or does he just not listen. When you are terrible in the field and a hole in the lineup you should be easy to replace. Yet, I believe he'll get every chance to play every day on a roster that has many other options for 1B and DH. Kirilloff should be the every day 1B man. Donaldson, Garver, Miranda and Arraez should rotate at the DH spot. Sano should be traded even if it's only for a bag of peanuts. Based on his past performance and if he doesn't change, the Twins would be a better team without him.- 31 replies

3 Immediate Priorities for the Twins Once the Lockout Ends
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Dylan Bundy, signing one of the 3 Free Agents you list and a trade for 1 pitcher who's better than both is a solid off-season? I started laughing when I read that. Yes by Twins standards that is solid. #1. Greinke is an aging vet who's best seasons are behind him, which makes him exactly the type of player the Twins try to sign. #2, Kikuchi and Pineda would not be difference makers, so again right down the Twins alley. #3. Trade for someone better than all 3, yes, if you trade away players that are holes in the lineup, like Sano and Kepler. Doubt that will happen. Instead it'll be a good hitter like Arraez and or a prospect that they should hang onto and would be able to if they used the Free Agent market like they should in the first place instead of waiting for left-overs. -
The Twins Have Failed Josh Donaldson
rv78 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why was Target Field built? So this organization could compete for the best talent available. Yet they continue to be bottom feeders. Yes the Pohlads say the checkbook is open and the FO does not use it. Who's fault is that? The fans? I highly doubt the Pohlads are NOT making more than enough money to afford a top player or two in the Free Agent market when there are $100 tickets, $10 beers, $7 hotdogs, over-priced souveniers, not to mention the revenue from the Bally Sports network. Don't tell me that organizations like Detroit or Texas, which both signed top talent this year in Free Agency, have so much more revenue that they can afford it and the Twins can't. It is the fact that they choose not to. You have been led to believe that because the Twins have always been cheap that they can't change. Again, it is because they choose not to. Not because they can't. -
The Twins Have Failed Josh Donaldson
rv78 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My point exactly, They never get the best player possible. Why not sign Rendon? Why does this organization always have to sign someone with less talent or in the decline of their career. Quit being cheap. Quit taking left-overs. Maybe then they would quit losing playoff games and actually show they are committed to winning.
