  1. I would love to see Kiriloff healthy and breakout but if he cannot why not Larnach? He played a great first base in college and will hopefully breakout this season.
  2. I’m happy the front office addressed the defensive drop off when Byron is out. Without Buck, the outfield defense has gone from elite to ugly over the past 5 years.
  3. Count me in on liking this trade unless Gallo has lost a step. I still think of him as a plus CF defender and with Buxton track record the Twins will finally have a decent back up for him and also insurance for Larnach in left.
  4. Was great to be outside watching Gopher football on a beautiful night. I have a really good feeling about this team with their depth and quality of players on both sides of the ball. There isn't a game on their schedule that they should lose if they play their best football. Having Kirk Ciarrocca back as Offensive Coordinator is a big step forward for the offense which struggled the past two seasons with route design and general play design. Very glad Fleck let two guys he was friends with Mike Sanford (OC) and Robb Smith (DC) go and replaced them with guys that seem to get the most out of their personnel. Anyone else here a Gopher fan?
  5. Not sure if Royals would have traded with the Twins, but at the deadline I believe the Twins already knew Kiriloff was done for the year and Buxton was limited. Trading for Benintendi or Merrifield (although he has struggled for the Jays) would have done wonders for this lineup.
  6. For what reason? I don't think the ownership has been a problem at all except for maybe hiring Falvey and Levine. Terry Ryan had some complex where he thought he could get extra points for saving money on the roster but what I have heard was that ownership wasn't aligned with that approach.
  7. I would argue that there has been some exciting new faces (player development this year). If Larnach and Kiriloff would have stayed healthy Kepler's dismal performance wouldn't have been on display as much.
  8. I’m going to that big guy. Nothing like hearing him crush a ball. I think it was 2019 at Kauffman stadium where this Royals fan in front of us seemed to really relish throwing shade at Miguel. He came into the game struggling and stuck out on his first at bat but with a good looking cut. Next at bat he tattooed a ball that ended up being a game winning home run I recall. I felt like he could have been one of those rare guys to lift his team to another level but not it never happened. Best of luck!
  9. Not sure if the Royals would have dealt to the twins but at the deadline, management knew the lineup and the outfield needed a boost. A Benintendi or Merrifield pickup would have been big.
  10. The break came at a good time as the team was stumbling in most areas and needed a reset. If Ober, Winder, and Ryan can step up and stay healthy I like the team’s chances. Get some bullpen help soon though as those crushing losses have to take a big toll on team.
  11. Was cutting Gordon and having Lewis play LF for now considered? I like Nick but he is Nick Punto like both offensively and defensively.
  12. Astros going with a soft throwing lefty for five innings won the game in my opinion. I thought he was on the ropes but had the guts to get the mound reshaped, he gathered himself and the Twins could not lay off his breaking stuff. Such a winnable game and such a bummer that the Twins didn't take it.
  13. It was sad to see this one slip away. This team has to find a way to keep taking quality at bats like it did earlier this season and last year. The Brew Crew bugs!
  14. Glad the Winfield JR declared. He had nothing to gain by coming back and his friends and roomates on the team are all graduating this spring anyway. I would think Tyler Johnson will be the first Gopher drafted (round 2 maybe), followed by Winfield, then Coughlin and Martin.
  15. My hope is that Homer can eat innings and be effective enough to help this team make the playoffs again. My other hope is that a trade or an internal candidate brings a playoff caliber starting pitching because I don't like the idea of Homer Bailey being a Twins playoff starter.
  16. Very nice to hear this news. Here's to Sano building on his nice 2019 season and the front office signing Buxton to an extensoin next.
  17. What a fun way to end a fun season! Loved Jake Odorizzi's tweet. Fleck has really been trying to build relationships with the other sports teams in Minnesota.
  18. I don't think Ciarrocca has his sights on being a head coach. He doesn't seem too comfortable in front of the camera, but I think going back home for him was a big thing. His new contract had not kicked in yet so his buyout I believe was only $50k (would have been 250k in next year). I don't care about the perception of this as much as I worry about the loss of offensive creativity. This was the first Gophers offense I can remember in a long time that was near the top of the conference and country in production. He used the RPO very well and with the exception of Wisconsin (Iowa game was bad defensive play calling in the first half and not finishing drives), the offense moved the ball up and down the field. Also one of the offensive assistants, Patterson, was a play caller and Assistant coach before joining the Gophers staff. There is some speculation that Fleck brought him in, 2 years ago, because he was expecting Ciarrocca to leave. Go Gophers!
  19. Very happy that Odorizzi and Pineda are coming back. Pineda was pitching so well during the middle of the season last year. I really enjoyed watching him pour strikes in on the corners. The Twins get a little discount I think by being loyal to him through his mistake.
  20. Everything is still possible for this team except going undefeated. This game hurt a lot because mistakes cost the game. Tyler Johnson had an amazing game and then drops that pass on 4th down where he could have scored a td. Still feeling bummed about this one.
  21. Best non playoff sporting event I have ever attended. What did you think of the atmosphere as a casual fan? To me outdoor sports (Twins baseball and Gopher football) are the games to be at in person. Cannot do indoor football or baseball even with our chilly springs and falls.
  22. It was funny at the end of last season the Gophers were getting some top 25 love, and then as the offseason progressed that diminished and Nebraska became the Big Ten west darling. I think a big part of it with college football is the fact that Nebraska sells 90k tickets for all of their football games and that will support a lot of media interest. Their fans that I interacted with at the game last night were all really nice though. They loved our stadium and city of course (wouldn't you if you visited from Nebraska!). I love how the defense and running game has really come together the past two weeks. And BTW a number 20 ranking in both the AP and Coaches poll.
  23. Totally agree and I think if there is a year, why not this year. They have a softer schedule, loads of talent on offense and some really talented seniors on defense. Plus what's not to like about Tanner Morgan? He is not flashy, but I believe his record now as a starter is 9-2 and they have won 7 straight. He is accurate and smart. Looking forward to a cool/cold Saturday night game under the lights!
  24. I hear the term around baseball playoffs being whichever team gets hot can win it all. Well getting hot means doing the right things to win and I am dissapointed because even though this team did not have great pitching, the defense and hitting really let the team down. Clean up the defense in game one and the questionable pitching changes and that one could have been a W. This to me was the biggest stat: RISP Game 1: 1 for 9 Game 2: 1 for 7 Game 3 : 1 for 12 Not sure if it was being in love with home runs or just well executed pitches by the Yankees but the Twins failed to deliver with productive at bats when it mattered. Anyway I loved the season and the community here. Will be following the offseason closely and Go Gophers!
