David Festa continues to be one of the best pitchers in the Minnesota Twins farm system this season and was nails tonight for the Kernels. St. Paul trailed all game until their final out and then Spencer Steer called game with a walkoff home run against the former Triple-A affiliate.

Even with a recent rough patch, the Twins are in the driver’s seat of the AL Central. Baseball’s upcoming trade deadline can be exciting, especially if the Twins decide to go all-in on the 2022 season.

Slowly.

It may be just me - or probably the change in schedules - but it feels like it's been an especially long and slow-moving draft season. It also may be that the College World Series is almost here and our internal clocks tell us that means it's finally here.

Only it isn't.

Dylan Bundy was the first prominent free agent signing for the Minnesota Twins this offseason, coming to an agreement with the club prior to the lockout taking place. He was coming off a lackluster year with the Los Angeles Angels but the hope was he could stabilize the back of the rotation. It hasn’t worked out that way.

Everything clicked for the Twins on Wednesday night. Chris Archer had yet another solid start, and the offense had one of its best performances of the season, helping Minnesota to even the series with a rout of the Yankees.

In game one against the New York Yankees this season the Minnesota Twins had gone back and forth with a foe so dominant of them it’s been comical. In the 7th inning another ugly moment reared its head and manager Rocco Baldelli was forced to defend a decision made on his reliever Tyler Duffey.

It was one of the flashiest and most emulated plays across diamonds all over the world, but his range was always a question. The Twins now seem to have a similar defender in third baseman Gio Urshela.

The Yankees beat the Twins 10-4 on Tuesday. The Twins kept an enthralling game close, until the Yankees teed off on Tyler Duffey in the seventh inning, securing the first game of the series.

Sawyer Gipson-Long got the start for Cedar Rapids tonight and was nothing short of dominant in a win for the Kernels. St. Paul faced a former Twins affiliate and got the win thanks, in part, to Spencer Steer’s bat.

Like many teams throughout the league, the Twins have forgone a typical Designated Hitter, instead using the position to help some of the usual starters find a semi-rest day. The decision to forgo a permanent hitter in the decision has paid off— with MLB's strange ball tactics this season flying them barely out to the warning tracks, only three DHs are above .300. and it certainly looks like Father Time has finally caught up to Nelson Cruz.
