November 30 is the non-tender deadline for baseball which means several players will surprisingly become free agents. Just as in years passed, there are several such players this time around that could fill some of the Twins' needs.

Byron Buxton’s health will once again play a huge role for the Twins in 2022. Of equal importance, though, is whether it will matter if he does stay healthy. It has to count. 

The Twins announced that they have claimed right-handed relief pitcher Trevor Megill. In news that will make too many Twins fans happy, outfielder Jake Cave has been outrighted to St. Paul. Later, the Twins announced that Megill had be non-tendered off of the 40-man roster. 

Now that Byron Buxton signed an extension, the focus shifts to keeping him healthy and productive over the life of the contract. So, how can the Twins keep him on the field?

The starting pitching free agent market has been decimated in the last 48 hours. What can the Twins do to bolster their starting pitching this offseason? Make a trade with the Reds.

Last week, I was ready to write this piece with three things the Twins could be tagged with failure for the offseason should the tasks remain incomplete. They extended Byron Buxton; that was a big number one. There’s still work to be done, and the heavy lifting is yet to come.

Byron Buxton is officially locked up in a Twins uniform for the next seven seasons. As exciting as the news is, there is still the question on who will be Buxton's back up to start this extension year in 2022 as his injury history will still have to be considered each season. 

Two of the top four free agent starting pitchers are now spoken for, but early this morning, the Twins were linked to the biggest remaining prize, AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray. Not surprisingly, they are not alone.

Everyone can relax. The Twins have extended their most talented player in the last decade for seven more years.
