On Sunday, the Minnesota Twins announced their non-roster invitations to spring training, and their top prospect is on the list. The number, 18, is less than normal, but spring training, in general, is going to be different this year. 

Every Sunday at Target Field is Kids Day, where kids 12 and under can channel their best Byron Buxton baserunning and sprint, toddle, or crawl around the Target Field bases, and soon, both the MLB Players and Minnesota’s littlest fans will have a slightly easier path around the bases. 

This offseason, the Minnesota Twins have always been expected to be active on the trade market, but the moves were assumed to be for pitching. After swapping Mitch Garver for Isiah Kiner-Falefa, we now have a whole new angle to figure out in terms of roster construction.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Twins have an agreement with the Texas Rangers to acquire shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa. 

The new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the MLB and players included some changes to the annual MLB Draft. While there are some interesting new wrinkles, there is still one big missing piece.

Every team makes mistakes, but organizations find long-term success by avoiding poor first-round draft picks. As the Metrodome era ended, Minnesota made some draft mistakes.

Major League Baseball has finally struck a new CBA deal with its Players Association, and suddenly spring training will be underway in days. 

A frenzied flurry of free agency and trade action is anticipated over the weekend. Let's get up to speed with where things stand for the Twins going in.

Early in December, Major League Baseball’s owners locked out the players. Nearly 100 days later, the two sides agreed to a new five-year Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). A ton of work has been done by both players and owners over the past two weeks (after owners didn’t make any attempt for the first 45 days). And now, the offseason and spring training are upon us, and it will be crazy. Most important, we know we will have baseball. 

We have baseball! Or, we don’t have a lockout! Or, both, eventually. Today Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) reached an agreement on the parameters of a deal to put a new CBA in place. Baseball is back for 2022.

Baseball’s draft is tricky because many players are years away from impacting big-league rosters. Back in the early 2010s, the Twins struggled to identify the best available players in the draft.

It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the 10 year anniversary of the Twins selecting Byron Buxton with the #2 overall pick in the 2012 draft. But, at the same time, considering the journey of Buxton’s career and the crazy times we’ve lived through recently, it also seems like it was forever ago.
