BTW, can any of you ever see the Twins getting into a bench clearing brawl?  The only guy that I could see getting ticked off enough to charge the mound would be Rosario.  And I'm not sure any of our pitchers would dare to plunk someone.  Minnesota nice.

Delmon Young and Jose Mijares. Of course, both were playing for the Twins at the time. :)

Hasn't Sano come close to charging the mound already? He had to be restrained by McCann and an umpire when Boyd threw behind him, leading to a benches-clearing... not full on brawl... a benches-clearing shoving match.

I hate the White Sox too. That said, even though I'm a third generation Cubs fan with season tickets in the family since the 1950s . . . White Sox fans are way better. They give a crap about the team, they're more diverse, they aren't douches.

I hate them but I have to accept that they're decent fans who are constantly being overshadowed by their flashy older brother.

I kid you not, there's a guy down the street from me who has painted all of his vehicles with cubs strips/logos, got married at Wrigley Field, and has his house completely decked out all year long in Cubs paraphernalia. His cars are easy to spot and when I happen to cross paths as the same shopping centers, people are taking pictures of them.

Anyways, a few years back, right after the Cubs drafted Bryant, I was walking by his house and asked him what he thought of Kris Bryant. I got the deer in headlights look and a statement that he only cared about the ML team. Of course, now he knows who Bryant is.

I try to not hate anybody.

But sometimes the Yankees and the Cowboys provide a good test.

the Dalai Lama (really, this is true) was once asked about bad drivers, and what good they really provide to us all.

He answered that they help him remember that he still has much to work on when it comes to accepatance and patience*

The Cowboys and Yankees and Seahawks (if you lived here, you'd understand) supply that for me**

*I can't recall what the actual words were, but that's the spirt of his answer.

** as do bad drivers. Jeebus I hate traffic.

For some reason I thought it was Liriano when I told this story a couple days age. Regardless, it was one of the great moments in baseball. I went to check on whether this is addressed in the unwritten rules of baseball, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

"Any self-respecting sports fan should have a team that you hold the exact amount of unreasonable hate for another team as the amount of unreasonable love you have for your team. If you don’t… you are an unbalanced sports fan and you are the type of fan who can get pushed around by Ozzie Guillen types because both feet aren’t set. This balance is also necessary in regular life as well. I had to marry another woman that I hated as much as the wife I love." I always found Ozzie harmless, and extremely entertaining. And I always found two wives expensive and not entertaining. I ended up solving the problem by developing a love/hate relationship with one of them. Sort of a dual purpose wife, like one of those weed trimmers you can turn into an edger. At first I was concerned that picking which one to keep would be a problem, but they solved it for me. They drew straws and the one that pulled the short straw got me! :)

4. Today’s Joe M Conversation:

Maddon: Guys… I don’t know how long I can keep making these early morning meetings to talk about nothing in particular. The travel is killing me… we got 162 games to play and every morning it’s back here just to hang out for a few minutes and then back to Chicago or Cincinnati or Pittsburgh or San Diego. My wife is really starting to question the logic of it.

Just to be accurate, it isn't 162 times they gotta travel, it's roughly a third of that, because it's only the beginning of a series, roughly half of which line up with preexisting travel plans, at least for Mr. Mauer.

But yeah, that is still quite a bit of traveling... My vote is to let Riverbrian (not to be confused with Riverbrain) invent stuff that they might plausibly say. Seems a bit more efficient.

Anyway, i hope we win! I think that makes me a win-esst, right? Now i'll be welcome at weddings, whether they are crimes or accidents.

I'm hoping to see it.

I've always like my baseball with a little attitude regardless if it is justified. It never really is.

What i'd really like to see is Mauer in the First At Bat in the First Inning... Just drop the bat and charge the pitcher for no reason at all. Before a pitch is even thrown.

The Pitcher and Catcher won't expect it.

Better Yet... Have Mauer charge the pitcher from the on-deck circle before Dozier even sees the first pitch.  :)

"Golly gee WHIZ, Mister! I'm super DUper angry with you! You just better watch it!"

I think the most appropriate Mauer charge would be charging the umpire the next time he gets a called third strike.   "You think you have a better eye than me Dirt Bag?!  I am Joe Mauer!"

There is the story he charged his brother and ended up putting his had through some glass in the bathroom door to try and reach him.     Since that was probably the late 90's, he is due for another eruption soon.

One of his brothers was quoted years ago to the effect that Joe was intensely competitive, be it bowling or numbly peg. And good at all of them. He had to have been not only talented but uber competitive to excell at so many sports. He is sort of the Bud Grant of his era without the duck boat!

Only team in baseball that I hate is the White Sox.    I was at US Cellular Field probably 5 to 6 years ago and went to use the restroom in my Mauer jersey.    I have 4 White Sox that come up to me when I am using the urinal and start having a conversation if they should piss on me.    Most awkward situation ever trying to walk between them after I have finished using the urinal. (I did not get stage fright even with the crowd! ;-)   Ever since then, my hatred has grown.  Never liked the Hawk much either.   Time to bring out the brooms!

BTW… a 4-game series is awfully optimistic as of right now. I just saw the weather man predict 6 to 12 inches of snow at Target Field Friday night into Saturday. Strangely… no snow is being predicted for Target Center across the street.

Here are some things to think about:

1. Top Non-Trump News Story (Or Stories):
Jason Castro(L) C

Jose Berrios (R ) P

Gametime forecast: Mostly cloudy, 47 deg F (feels like 43), 4% chance of precipitation, winds at 8mph from the NE.

Hey, RB, that thing you married you hate as much as you love your wife? Generally, that's known as a "job."

Edited due to taking up most of a page. :)
