Walks aren't 'fun'...but I will say, the patience of the Twins hitters as well as not diving after that low and away slider (Torii Hunter re-runs in my mind) is rather refreshing. This team has pretty good discipline.

 

Now if we could just get Joe Mauer to go Kirby Puckett on a few first pitch fastballs and get him to lay off the inside stuff he seems to be striking out on...

I didn't find that half inning fun at all. I found it terribly sad and an affront to all things baseball.

 

Happy the Twins won, never care to see that level of play again.

 

Boo, Debby Downer. The Twins having good at bats is ALWAYS fun. Showing improvement at the plate vs 2013, is a major reason for Twins to smile!

Glad the Twins won, but it got painful to watch after awhile... 7 BB, 3 WP, 4 R before the first hit... 8 BB, 1 H, 6 R before the first non-sacrifice out...

 

It felt like we were playing a video game and had figured out a glitch!

I was hoping they would score another run with a sacrifice fly and then the third out would come from a guy trying to advance, so that they could go one full trip through the lineup without an official at-bat.

I'll repeat what I said in the game thread after the inning was over 'Just wow.' Not a 'wow that was fantastic' wow, more of a 'I cannot believe that just happened' wow. It was a monstrous train wreck. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Twins weren't the train wreck for a change, but, just wow. Not a sight I hope to ever see again. That was definitely a 'once in a lifetime' viewing, I hope. I wonder if the cold was a contributing factor for those bullpen arms who just could not come in and do anything.

I was observing through my smart phone. I kept refreshing the At Bat app and cross checking through a web browser. The inning looked more like a scripting error than actual baseball.

 

I agree. I was at work and refreshing a game log. After the third run scoring wild pitch I figured it had to be a website error. I actually game to the game thread here at Twins Daily to see if it was true.

Checked out what a Toronto newspaper had to say about the game. These few lines sums it up:

 

"In all, Delabar, Santos and Happ allowed six runs on eight walks, three wild pitches and one hit.

 

 

It was a complete unravelling, which led to life-sucking 9-5 loss and a series defeat to a very bad team. Now instead of heading to Cleveland needing just a single victory for a winning road trip, they’re dispirited, demoralized and back at .500."

 

Although I take exception to the 'very' in 'very bad team.'

Cannot say I feel sorry for the Jays on this. The goal is to win the game. Hitters shouldn't be swinging at pitches they cannot hit, and if the Jay's pitchers couldn't put it over the plate... well all I have to say is too bad.

I don't feel bad for the Jays, but rather the Jays fans. It was a little painful/frustrating to watch as a fan of the winning team, so I can't imagine what it was like for Jays fans.

It was a total train wreck but a very entertaining half inning. Sometimes things just go terribly wrong and when you think they can't get any worse, they do. "An affront to all things baseball"? ... No, it wasn't. It was something you will probably never see again and it was great.

Saw a story somewhere saying that the 8-walk inning tied a Senators record set (I think) back in the 30's vs. Yanquis... guess we know the outcome to that particular tilt.

So, we've been there, too.

 

Ugly baseball happens. 20-10 final scores happen. The Cubs happen.

When your team benefits, take it.

Don't look back at the corpse... nothing to see here, move along...

Last night on the radio, I think Provus said the record was 11, which was the senators vs the Yankees, I think in the 40s.

Still our franchise holds the record, so if/when the Jays pass it, I'll be sure to weep into my beer for them.
