Good for Matt Moore because he deserves that contract. i hope the angels make the playoffs.

But .... I'm a Twins fan and we are fine right now. Falvey and crew will be evaluating everyone in training and into the first couple of months. No worries now.

I think Brad Hand would be my pick at a lower price. Say 2 million. Please feel free to tell me to hand Hand  more money, if you feel I'm too low.

At $2m, I agree, and I would even go to $3-4M given his track record. I do wonder if he isn't going to be more than that with Moore getting $7.55m.

You may be right other than a possible deal with Hand. I expect the bullpen is otherwise set pending how people perform in Spring Training and possible injuries.

I would have liked to have Moore as a Twin, but not for over $7 million.  I'm glad the Angels got him and would also like to see them make the playoffs just to see Ohtani and Trout in the post season.  I'm fine with Hand at $2 million if they go that way and I think Moran will be solid no matter what.

Give Hand a $3.0 million base with 2-3 incentive levels that could get him to $4.5 million, otherwise he’ll wait. It’s a slap in the face to a guy who has had a good run for 7 years…….not the same guy but he did have a 2.8 ERA last year for people that still pay attention to ERA.  What are we paying Pagan & P. Lopez?

Pagan is on a one year 3.5m contract, Lopez, one year 3.525m contract. I see your point. It's hard to believe Hand would sign for less given that he ahs outperformed both by more "traditional" stats like ERA over the last 2-3 years. Hand is probably more like a $4-5m base with incentives that could get him to $6-$7m if you just compare contracts. Still, the fact Hand is older and thus more likely to decline, added with the fact that he is still unsigned may bring his price down. Maybe a $3.5 -3.575m base with incentives that could get him to $5m would get it done.  It seems unlikely that anything less would work given Pagan and Lopez at that same range and Moore getting $7.55m...

I would have done Moore, and his LH potential based on last year, for $6-7M per a month ago instead of Pagan and his $3.5M. A little more than double for someone with better upside, definitely would prefer Moore.

Moore would have been a good signing but the Twins don't pay market rates for their bullpen.  It's low-ball the bullpen and hope they work out.  To me the bullpen can be successful if the starters pitch further into games.  But if it is still going to be the philosophy of letting starting pitchers go only 5 or 6 innings tops no matter how well the pitcher is throwing them I'm afraid that in the long run the bullpen will not be able to hold up as it is currently constructed and managed.

Still room for one more bullpen arm to make it a real competition for Pagan to stay with the Twins. Of course, you can't have too many lefties in the pen if you have NONE in the rotation.

And the injury bug can still bite in spring training.

That he hasn't signed...well, we could say the same for Moore as the rosters filled up, but Angels found the single season of bucks.

That is not crazy though. There is no position with such variance year to year. Paying for past success for a reliever is no guarantee of future success. So if it is always going to be a gamble, why pay extra. If a young pitcher or reclamation project has a good chance to do as well as a veteran, you may as well save your money. Yes the odds are better the more you pay. But if the odds are worse at that position than any other, spending your money where it is more likely to pay off is a good strategy. Then convert some prospects or hire a vet with a good slider and make it work.
