Nine games into the season, the Minnesota Twins sit with a record of 2-7. This is second only to the San Diego Padres who hold a record of 2-8. After pulling out two wins against the Los Angeles Angels, the Twins were swept by the high powered Texas Rangers in three games. Two steps forward, three giant flops back. Is there a method to this madness? The blame game has been in full tilt already this season ranging from blaming the lack of home runs on the stadium design (Jim Thome sure didn't h

Some think the Indians might have locked up baseball's top catcher but that title can be debated with players from both leagues coming out on top. The Twins already have Joe Mauer
As mentioned before in my Day-by-Day blog, I wanted to introduce a weekly statistical look at the players in the organization. Below is my first attempt, so please let me know if I'm missing something, should change something, etc. All stats through Sunday, April 15, 2012. Courtesy of MLB.com and MiLB.com Quick analysis: With the parent team struggling early on, it's refreshing to see some of the Organization's top prospects performing well early on. The three that stand out the most to me w

Looks like they got over whatever was bothering them. The Rangers didn't really blow the Twins away; the Twins failed to capitalize. Key Notes from the Series: That relay play on Sunday by Thomas to Casilla to Mauer to mow down Adrian Beltre at the plate was a thing of beauty. I love things of beauty created by
Finally went to a game that A.) the Snappers won and B.) Sano connected. Both were worth the wait. Really. 18 years old. Wow. The only question was how far the moment we heard it. Glad I went today and not yesterday, considering the extra innings and the distance to Clinton. Beside the Sano home run I guess the most impressive player was Micheal Tonkin, he kept the Lumber Kings under control for over 3 innings. I think he has spent enough time in the MWL, time to head south for him. It's late a
[Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar] I think 4 games in a row constitutes a winning streak. If that's not the case, well too bad! The final score today was 3-0 New Britain, and the Rock Cats, in the midst of their first road trip, are now 8-3. The Sunday Rock Cats-Fisher Cats matinee at New Hampshire was essentially a pitcher's duel for much of the game. New Britain starter Lucas French tossed 7 scoreless innings (92 pitches) for the Rock Cats, allowing only 2 hits, and walking 3 and

Looking over my tweets and blogs from the first week of the season there's a surprisingly snarky streak to them all. I'd always thought of our little outpost in the Twins blogosphere as a happy place, and yet it seems like the stinktastic 2011 has colored our perspective on the team's early struggles. For example, on Thursday I turned on the game over lunch, in time to see that the Angels had already run up a 5 run lead. A student came into my room to hear the score and then joined me in a 5 min
This post was originally posted at http://troystwinsdugout.wordpress.com/2012/04/14/introducing-clete-thomas/ Earlier today, the Twins announced that they've claimed Clete Thomas from the Detroit Tigers. To make room on the 25 man roster, the Twins optioned Ben Revere to AAA Rochester after the Twins 6-2 loss to Texas. Thomas will replace Revere as the fourth outfielder and provide some speed on the basepaths off the bench. In 593 minor league games, Thomas has a batting line of .267/.348/.3
For a random Saturday in April, there sure was an awful lot that seemed to happen. Most of these topics have been touched on at Twins Daily, but I'm just going to (briefly) condense them. This morning we learned that OF Darin Mastroianni was promoted from New Britain to Rochester. Not exactly headline news, but Twins news nonetheless. Before today's game against Rangers P Yu Darvish (news in itself), the Twins unveiled a statue outside of Gate 14 of Kent Hrbek. During today's game, in

He will take Scott Baker's 40-man roster spot and a corresponding move (either demoting Ben Revere who has options or waiving ineffective LHB Sean Bu

I really hold back what I would like to say about then payroll arguments here. The fact that people don't accept the amount taken in dictates the amount going out requires one of two things. Extreme financial ignorance or fanatical bias that prevents the acceptance of something some basic. I did not change the argument. It's the same idiocy over and over. Do you really want to be on the side that suggests revenues does not determine spending capacity?
