Adopt a Prospect #1: Meet Luis Perdomo's Beard...and Luis Perdomo

Earlier this month, we Peanuts accepted the plea from our benevolent overlords at Twins Daily to adopt a prospect. This means that on a bi-weekly basis we'll update the rest of the blogosphere on the doings of one particular player until he graduates to the big club, or floats away into prospect purgatory. While our fellow bloggers leapt at the chance to explore the victories and challenges of potential superstars, we picked ours based on this photo (used by our pal Betsy on her blog) [TABLE=cla

Think the Twins suck? You shoulda seen ‘em in 2006!

The pitching was even worse back then. As tough as last week’s series in Anaheim was to swallow, how about the sweep the ’06 team suffered

Snappers Series Finale Ends With a Bang

This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com.   After a rather ugly game Wednesday night and Thursday’s suspended game, the Snappers and Kernels put on a good show on Friday in Cedar Rapids.   In the completion of Thursday’s suspended game, the Snappers got a home run from newcomer Drew Leachman and Miguel Sano hit his 7th home run of the season immediately after an AJ Petterson double in the 8th inning, but it wasn’t enough for the win. The Kernels topped Beloit 9-6.     htt

Twins Draft Preview III - Presence in Puerto Rico

This article was orignially posted at ManCenter.com   ------   Initially my plan was to continue the series with a preview of the Midwest. While the Twins do a pretty good job of locating and selecting talent from this area, it doesn't appear that there are a ton of top prospects from the area. So I'm pushing that preview back.   Instead I'm going to highlight a place that has been a great place to infuse talent into the Twins system: Puerto Rico.   In 2007, the Twins jumped on "toolsy OF" Ang

First Look at the 2012 Snappers

This article originally was posted at Knuckleballsblog.com If you follow me on Twitter (@JimCrikket), you know that the Twins’ low-A affiliate, the Beloit Snappers, are making their first trip to Cedar Rapids this week and that I’ve spent the past couple of evenings at the ballpark watching them take on the Kernels (the Angels’ Midwest League affiliate). They’ve played 1+ games in the series so far (Thursday’s game was suspended by thunderstorms in the 3rd inning and will be resumed at 5:00 tod

Friday Links-N-Thinks

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Boy did it feel good to have a day to recover on Thursday after watching the Twins get no-hit by Jared Weaver on Wednesday night. This performance came on the heels of the Twins putting together a lack luster performance against Jerome Williams on Tuesday night. All together the Twins have been held hitless in 15 straight innings and now their focus will turn to the Seattle Mariners.   The Twins record sits at 6-18, the worst in Major Lea

Tears, Series Recap, and Other Notes

Originally posted at k-bro's baseball blog   Oy. That was a punch in the gut. Followed closely by a knockout punch to the jaw.     There's no need to go into detail about how awful that was. Not only has the starting pitching failed to improve to a satisfactory level, but now the offense has taken a break from acceptability. Let's hope that a day off in beautiful Seattle helps matters. Although we all said that for the last off day...     Just keep fighting.     A few notes:   I don't thin

Ryan v. Smith

I'm trying to remember the media coverage back in the fall when Ryan replaced Smith very abruptly. I thought I read something that suggested Smith was let go by the Pohlad's because he didn't think the roster, as constructed then, could compete and wanted to go into rebuild mode. Ryan, on the other hand, held the philosophy that the roster could be competitive with the right quick fixes. Now, don't get me wrong, I had no confidence that Smith had the competence to blow up the roster and rebui

Twins, Gardenhire and Maritime Law

When Francesco Schettino, the captain of Costa Concordia abandoned his sinking ship lastJanuary, it made international news. But he was not alone, to quote a very interesting Discovery channel article: "Considered one of the most infamous crimes in maritime law, [this] act of cowardice has many precedents in history.", and goes on to list several of the previous captains who have abandoned ship.   Today, another name needs to be added to the list: Ronald Clyde Gardenhire.   With the excuse that

This is all just a bad dream...right?

"Wake me up when it is over." I have heard this in reference to bad movies, horrible television shows, lectures in college auditoriums--the list goes on. Add now to the list "wake me up when the Twins game is over."   After being shutout for two straight games and being no-hit on Wednesday by Jared Weaver, the Minnesota Twins are beginning to give the term "the Bad News Bears" a whole new meaning. From their pitching to their hitting, the Twins are an all-around disaster.   I know that every gam

Plouffe has gone poof?

As of May 3, 2011, the sainted Drew Butera had this set of stats for the Twins: AB: 50 BB: 2 H: 5 2B: 2 R: 3 RBI: 4 BA: .100 OBP: .151 SLG: .140 OPS: .291   This morning, I see this for Trevor Plouffe 2012: AB: 36 BB: 7 H: 4 2B: 1 HR: 1 R: 3 RBI: 2 BA: .111 OBP: .256 SLG: .222 OPS: .478   He's been basically five walks, and one double turned into a home run, better than Drew Butera.   Drew came back strong to finish with a .449 OPS. Trevor is already higher than this so can we hope for great

Grade Check

This blog is originally available at our heavenlypeanuts.blogspot.com   Yes, we peanuts are still alive and kicking, but it has not been easy keeping up with our beloved Twins. You see, Stinky has this thing called "work" which makes her do many, many important things, but very few of them are baseball related. Where as I, Scruffy, have this thing called "teaching" which will eventually lead to a wonderful summer full of partial planning and lots of baseball watching, but which (right now) requi

Carrying 13 Pitchers

As posted on pitchersduel.blogspot.com   Each major league team is allotted 25 roster spots at any given time. Any combination of hitters and pitchers is legal. Up until the 1990's it was common to see a team carry just 10 pitchers (often less), allowing flexibility on the offensive side, while relying more heavily on 'ace' relievers to come in for multiple innings at a time if the starter couldn't finish the game. Needless to say, that has changed a good amount in the past 20 years, much
