Our Minnesota Twins (Part 3)

As always this post can be seen in it's more easily formatted glory at our original site (where you can vote for a Twins player to go into our "Hall of Fame"...which given the calibre of my writing is a rather dubious honor)   It's time continue our introductions to this year's Minnesota Twins...if you're just joining us: we're here to answer that increasingly common question on Twins' fans (chapped) lips: "who the heck is that guy?" And we'll do it in the most Minnesotan way we know how: by pro

Our Minnesota Twins (Part 2)

Continuing our series that aims to answer the question "who the heck is that guy?" [both here and on our other blog]: we're here to tell you about prominent Twins, and we'll do it in the most Minnesotan way we know how: by providing you facts (player's background), fiction (the alternate background we used to dream up the photoshop), fandom (ways to cheer for them) and flattery (less positive cheers, aka Minnesota "Nice" comments) Let's get started! Meet Ryan Doumit! (Back Up Catcher/DH) Play

Meet OUR Minnesota Twins (Part 1)

This is the start of a new series available at Peanuts from Heaven! and our partnered site at Twins Daily.   While many of the people who check out this website are serious seam-heads, committed to knowing the depth charts from Minnesota through Elizabethton, not everyone knows that much...so in an effort to get new fans committed we offer a quirkier look at the local 9. These are not "your Minnesota Twins," they aren't the guys who run out on to the field to the strains of "We're Gonna Win Twin

It's Going to be Rough...

I know you love the Twins brother, it's just...--My little brother, January 2013. For her birthday, I took Stinky, aka Mrs. Peanut, aka the co-founder of this blog, aka my wife, to Chicago to see her sister and a whole pile of friends. We had a great time, trying great restaurants, escaping "bro-bars" and celebrating the fact that she has continued to cheat death for another year. My wife's sister lives about a mile down the road from Wrigley Field, and even an American League man like myself sn

Calling All Bribes

You can vote for the "Hall of Fame" discussed in this blog (and see this post with all kinds of other goofy photoshops) on our main blogger page.   After the debacle of the Hall of Fame's "non-election" and last weekend's Academy Awards, there is but one honor left to bestow before the baseball season begins: the Peanuts From Heaven Hall of Fame! Yes, we still offer induction to all those who make the game fun to watch (even if they weren't exactly "good" at "playing the game of baseball"). [TAB

Gamblin' Man

I have fun at Terry Ryan's expense. (Sorry big guy, it's just too easy.) I photo shop him in all kinds of compromising outfits like say...this one! http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-S3j56Grc8-w/T-3Cqyhoa7I/AAAAAAAACCM/lghegrG918Y/s320/LMD3.jpg While this seems bad, plenty of people are frustrated enough with Terry's attitude to this off season to do far worse than photoshop him onto a Dutch breakdancer's body. Just what did he do? Well, he seems to have taken an already suspect pitching staff and fill

Rational Thinking on an Irrational Topic

(Like all my posts, this is also available at my personal blog: http://heavenlypeanuts.blogspot.com--where there's also space to vote on the Peanuts Hall of Fame...like the real one...only intentionally hilarious)   This is one of my favorite times of the baseball year, which is odd because there's no games being played, no highlights to goggle over, no action to analyze. But there is the Hall of Fame, that marvelous institution/debate instigator that symbolizes so much and actually means very

Ring out the old. Ring in the new.

It's 2013, and that means that the Twins haven't lost a game yet this year!!   Yes, enthusiasm has been in short supply for the past two seasons, with more than a few loyal supporters questioning their allegiances faster than the Malfoy family at the end of the Deathly Hallows. We peanuts have long been among the most sentimental of the blogging community. We sigh with memories of Johan and Torii (heck, we even mourned Boof Bonser and Brendan Harris). And as the Twins rebuilding project has begu

2012 Winter Meeting Recap

This was originally posted at our other website   It's a holiday tradition as old as Barack Obama's presidency (...hmm that didn't sound quite as impressive as I thought I would...); every year, shortly after the Winter Meetings end, we Peanuts offer a poorly digested, mostly fabricated recap of the glad-handing and back slapping that turns four days of business meetings in a fancy hotel into something somewhat amusing. We hope you enjoy this absurd dramatization of a professional business conve

A Little Bit Country

but not at all rock and roll...that's our prediction for what the Twins will do during this week's Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee. Every offseason, when there is precious little else to write about, I make prognostications/recommendations for what will/should happen when the Twins' brass heads down to whatever exotic locale has agreed to host the most powerful people in baseball for four days. This year, there's a lot that could be done to improve the team; some would go so far as to sa

A Thanksgiving Hors D'ouevre: A Peanuty Blueprint

'Tis the season both for overeating and overanalyzing potential Twins transactions. While most people in Twins Territory will be fixated on football in the next 72 hours, I thought, on the off chance that someone sneaks a peak at this space, that I should make it look presentable. So, here's a new blog on how best to address the biggest issue the local nine faces this year. Most of the truly accomplished and respected Twins' bloggers have presented their blueprints for general consumption. The p

Adopt a Prospect #8: The End of Luis Perdomo

Admittedly I am several months late in posting and several dollars short in sentiment (being swamped with student essays makes for an all too convenient excuse), but allow me to say the following.   1) Perdomo played fairly well both in the minor leagues and (after a rocky beginning) the majors--albeit during the most inconsequential innings of the most inconsequential games of an inconsequential season. FINAL STATS: Minors 72.666 IP over 45 Appearances; 1.046 WHIP; 2.7 BB/9; 8.4 K/9; 3.09 K/BB

2012's Teachable Moments: Money Changes You

This post was originally published at Peanuts From Heaven   The playoffs are in high gear, but those who cling to hope for the underdogs might be forgiven for tuning out early this year. The league championship series featured the past three champions (Cardinals, Giants and Yankees) and a preseason favorite (the Detroit Tigers). Gone are the plucky upstarts: the Nationals, the A's, the O's, the Reds. In short all the teams who haven't sniffed the World Series in over 20 years, and in their place

2012's Teachable Moments: Rage Quitting

Some know this, others don't. I'm secretly a teacher at a public high school that shall remain nameless. (If only to protect myself from principals who wonder why they hired a guy who thinks that beards are sentient.)   My job is great actually. When the baseball season starts it's a sign that the school year is rapidly winding down. As the battle for first place intensifies, I have many opportunities to watch and revel in exciting games. And by the time I get back to work I know whether or not

My Dog Writes the News

I'm officially back at work, planning and plotting all that I teach, but after a summer of goofing around with my dog (with Sports Radio/ESPN often on in the background), I felt like I could trust him to write a post summarizing baseball coverage of late. Without further ado...here's a guest post from my dog: Sidney.--also available with images here Most Exciting Time of Baseball Season Irrelevant Next to Least Exciting Time of Football Season. by, Sid MacKenzie   With the September stretch r

Rooting for Nick & Tsuyoshi

(Apologies for the gap between posts, school is coming quickly and I'll be splitting time between writing lesson plans and writing baseball blogs...probably a little more time on lesson plans)     Clearly things have changed in the Twins dugout of late, much to the glee of many fans (not to mention the blogging community). Nick Blackburn is gone and it will take some finagling to get him back up again, experience be damned. Gone too is every last drop of hopeful expectation around Tsuyoshi Nishi

Adopt a Prospect #6: Luis Perdomo's Debut!

Well, that debut could definitely have gone better.   After posting a .949 WHIP between AA & AAA (only .661 in AAA) Luis Perdomo gave up 1 hit, 3 walks and a Swagalicious Error to 7 batters last night, his first night as an honest to goodness Minnesota Twin. He was wild (19 balls to just 11 strikes) and gave up 2 (unearned) runs before leaving the bases loaded in low leverage situation.   There is one natural thing to blame this on: THE SOUL PATCH!!   LUIS, your beard is a thing of beauty an

Why we must trade Liriano

There's still a lot of debate over whether or not the Minnesota Twins should trade Francisco Liriano. Sure he's the best pitcher on the staff of a team that's rather desperate for starting pitching, but he's also a free-agent-to-be with a demanding agent who will probably be looking for a sizable pay day (one that we likely can't afford). Yet, there are plenty of people who would like Frankie Franchise to stick around now that he's figured out how to be consistently dangerous on the hill (Monday

Let's Make a Deal: Wrap Up!

It's time to wrap up this blog's trade deadline speculation series/gameshow in the making: Let's Make a Deal. Where I offer you trade returns based on the historical equivalent of current Twins. First, let's check out how the fans did in making a deal for Francisco Liriano in what was nearly a unanimous verdict (until my friend Aly called in a last second vote for door #2). No one, and I mean, NO ONE, wanted to keep Frankie or trade for door #3. (Since Door #3 contained three hitters and zero pi

Adopt a Prospect #5: Analyzing the Twins Greatest Weakness...Magical Facial Hair!

Frequent readers of our Adopt a Prospect series know that we like our prospect, Luis Perdomo. Let's Make a Deal for Francisco Liriano

This was originally posted at our independent site (with a poll for voting), please feel free to comment with your own rationale for why one deal seems superior to another...GM's don't operate in a vacuum the more you debate the better the choice becomes.   It's time for the All-Star Game (a favorite event for we Peanuts, because it is just as silly as we always are, and because we feel proud to join the teeming masses who mock Joe Buck every year!)   But before the big(ish) game, we should thin
