I just read that the Tigers pretty much have a done deal to make him their next manger.

Awesome!  Now I can really show my dislike for him without a hint of guilt.  With their penchant for veterans, he should be very happy :-) Maybe Gardy can convince ownership to pry Ryan away from the Twins to join him.

I think at one point Gardenhire was a good regular season manager. The problem is the post-season. was so bad and far too often he seemed like a different manager.

Exactly, who cares about the regular season. A good manger helps make his team become a winner in post season. It was almost embarrassing all those years winning a weak division and getting destroyed in the first round. Nothing worse than the deer in the headlights look that you got when it came to post season.

didn't think you were allowed to put links here or I would have put it in from the start. sorry if I may have scooped all you big shots and put it up first.

Links are absolutely allowed, always have been, especially for something like this. You can even quote bits and pieces of a story as long as you give proper credit. Just don't cut and paste entire stories. But links? Yes. And no need to worry about scooping. Scoop away, especially for something like this,

We always encourage links to other articles to encourage people to go to those places and read from the source. Then come back and discuss here. Credit needs to go where credit needs to go.

He'll look good in Tiger whites.  And it's a good club for him, with all the vets around.  But I still miss Leyland over there, cupping his hand around a smoke, peeping out of the dugout like he's ducking snipers in 'Nam.

And, not to whip a dead horse by now, the matter is explained in a section of the TD Comment Policy.

Hasn't the City of Detroit suffered enough.  It's sad when a loser manager doesn't know when to retire and would rather hurt his ball club with consecutive last place finishes than to swallow his pride and get the hell out of town.  Now he's looking to spread his prideful disease.  The Twins just need to get better each year and do to the Tigers what they did to the Orioles this year.

Wow. Didn't see this coming. I kinda want it to happen, though. It'd make for some fun next season.

Also, for the record, I do think Paul Molitor is a better manager than Gardy.

Based on what?  I'm really low on Molitor, Gardenhire gets a lot of crap because teams who were 10 games out at the break with limited talent fell apart in the 2nd half.  I don't care what a team does after it's over Gardenhire got teams where they were supposed to end up more often then not.  As for the playoff record it's not good, but between small sample size and the fact they were playing very good teams I'm not sure it's a big deal.

We welcome links here. Never hesitate to post a link to another source... The only thing we ask you not to do is copy and paste entire articles. If you find something you'd like to share, be sure to give an option for people to visit the source material and give that author some traffic (revenue).

I guess Detroit can fire everyone in their sabermetric department. They wont be needing them anymore.

I'm not sure they have one.  Dombrowski would be considered "Old School" which is why it was a bit surprising that SABR friendly Red Sox went after him.  Detroit was one of the few fits for Gardy.

Though I'm not sure how they'll react when Gardy pulls whoever happens to be in their workhorse rotaion next year after the 6th because they hit the magic 100 pitch count mark.
