First and foremost, feel free to get acquainted with the picks and where they were taken. Here’s the pieces in which you can find all of the picks: Rounds 1-4 Rounds 5-8 Rounds 9-12 Rounds 13-16 With that out of the way, the below image shows off the rosters for all six of our squads. Hop into the comments below and share your opinions on the draft, who got the steals, and which teams you suspect to make the most noise. Where we go from here is still a bit up in the air. There will be a full Out of the Park Baseball 21 simulation that takes place using these exact rosters. We’re still in the process of determining how that will all be shared, and if it’ll be a series or a single dump. Another possibility is the revealing of ZiPS projections as they relate to each of these rosters. As arguably the most notable projection system surrounding Major League Baseball, the numbers for these prospects in their current state should be a ton of fun. This whole draft was concocted in a time where we have no Major League Baseball to look forward to, and we’ll likely be without Minor League Baseball for some time. Each of the Twins Daily Minor League Reports writers came together for some fun in this exercise, and it provided a fun Twitter direct message thread as well (except for Jeremy, who didn’t no we were conversing until the draft had concluded since his notifications weren’t turned on). If you have any other ideas or comments in regards to the draft, what could come from this, or thoughts for our Minor League Reports writers, feel free to share them below. The Minnesota Twins still have a couple of affiliates in the midst of their All-Star breaks this evening. Royce Lewis stole the show offensively with a double-dinger night including a walkoff, while Ryley Widell looked strong in his 2019 debut for Elizabethton. Brusdar Graterol was on the bump for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos this morning. A dominant outing was cut short after he left with an injury, but it looks like something severe may have been avoided. Low scoring action was the name of the game in matinees, and the night games featured some comeback action with plenty of offense.TRANSACTIONS Rochester Red Wings LHP Andrew Vasquez placed on IL with left shoulder impingement RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 7, Toledo 1 Box Score Zack Littell toed the rubber in this contest, and despite twirling a gem, the bats put him at ease when he exited after six strong innings of work. Littell didn't allow an earned run, and he fanned seven while allowing just three hits and three walks. Trailing 1-0 entering the home half of the fourth inning, Rochester jumped out in front for good. Zander Wiel continues to hit, and his single drove in Brent Rooker for the Red Wings first run. John Andreoli then notched his third dinger of the season and the crooked number was a three. The rest of the scoring was done in the next inning. Rooker came across on a wild pitch, Jordany Valdespin singled in Wiel, and the hot-hitting Nick Gordon ripped a two RBI double to give us the eventual final score of 7-1. Gordon posted another multi-hit evening, and is now batting .417 on the season, being completely on fire since his activation off of the Injured List. Some of the middle of the order bats are really settling in for Rochester, and guys like Wiel and Rooker could make compelling cases for the Twins in 2019 should they continue with this momentum. Also, it's a good thing that the Red Wings didn't let this fan pitch tonight. BLUE WAHOOS BITES Pensacola 1, Mississippi 0 Box Score Star prospect Brusdar Graterol was on the bump for the Blue Wahoos in this one, and he looked dominant once again. Working with a fastball that sat around 98 mph most of the day, he gave up just two hits while striking out three and walking one in 5 1/3 innings of work. Graterol did leave the game early, and was just at 69 pitches, but according to KSTP’s Darren Wolfson it doesn’t sound too serious. Luis Arraez singled in the game's only run, driving in Taylor Grzelakowski in the fourth inning. Getting shutdown work from the recently promoted Tom Hackimer, as well as Sam Clay and Ryan Mason, Pensacola was able to close out a tight contest. Picking up his sixth save, Mason has now pushed his scoreless innings streak to 15 in 2019. Since converting to a reliever in 2017, he’s been lights out. It’s worth noting that Miguel Sano did not play in this game. He wasn’t in the lineup, but was reportedly still in Pensacola. The plan could be for him to be promoted up to Rochester prior to Thursday’s action, with a light knock on the Twins door beginning to be heard. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 4, Charlotte 3 Box Score Started by Jhoan Duran, the outing was an abbreviated one with mother nature wreaking havoc in the 4th inning. One out into the frame, a rain delay forced the tarp onto the field. Duran finished with five strikeouts and three walks allowing two runs on four hits. Trailing by two, and now without their starting pitcher, the Miracle needed to come up with answers. On the mound, that was Melvi Acosta. Working four and one-third innings of relief, he allowed just one run while fanning four. Because of his lockdown performance, the bats were able to chip away. Jose Miranda drove in Trevor Larnach to get Fort Myers on the board, and then Lewin Diaz followed with his 6th double of the season tying things at 2. Trailing again after the lone run crossed against Acosta, the Miracle responded. In the 6th, it was a Diaz single driving in Larnach, and the 7th featured the go ahead tally on a Michael Helman single to left field. The bats seem to have come alive in recent days for the Miracle, and the hope is that they'll continue to pace what should remain a very impressive lineup. KERNELS NUGGETS South Bend 2, Cedar Rapids 1 Box Score Andrew Cabezas came just one out shy of completing seven innings in this one and allowing just one run on six hits during his day of work. He put the Kernels in a great spot to win. The bats were cold as Cedar Rapids generated just four hits, and the one run wasn’t enough to come out on top. Trailing 1-0 after the first, Cedar Rapids was able to knot things up when Gabriel Maciel scampered home on a wild pitch in the sixth. Looking to force extras, the Kernels found themselves on the wrong side of a walkoff with a throwing error spelling their eventual demise. Cedar Rapids heads to West Michigan to begin a new series with the Whitecaps tomorrow. TRANSACTIONS Fort Myers Miracle RHP Bailey Ober placed on the seven-day IL with a right ulnar nerve subluxation RED WINGS REPORT Scranton/WB 8, Rochester 6 Box Score Zack Littell got the start for Rochester tonight and turned in seven innings of strong work. Fanning seven while walking two and allowing seven hits, he ceded four earned runs and needed some offensive help once he departed. The runs came, but unfortunately they weren’t unanswered. Scranton got on the board first in this one, scoring one run in the bottom of the second. In the third, Randy Cesar drove in John Andreoli with an RBI single to knot things up on the road. The Railriders pulled away in the fourth with a three-run tally. Attempting to chip away, Rochester added runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings drawing even on another Cesar RBI. Headed to extras, Luke Raley got things started with his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot. In the bottom half of the 10th, Scranton pushed across four and ended the game in walkoff fashion. BLUE WAHOOS BITES Biloxi 7, Pensacola 3 Box Score Taking the ball in this one was Sean Poppen, and needing 51 pitches to get through just two innings, this turned out to be an abbreviated start for the otherwise impressive prospect. The Shuckers pushed across seven runs through the first three innings and the Blue Wahoos had an ugly hole to climb out of. A fielder’s choice in the third allowed Pensacola’s first run to score, but it wasn’t followed by bunches. Taylor Grzelakowski grabbed an RBI on a sac fly in the fourth, and generated the same result in the sixth. Down 7—3 at that point, the score stood as the home side fell. MIRACLE MATTERS Postponed – Rain KERNELS NUGGETS Game 1- Bowling Green 3, Cedar Rapids 2 Box Score After a rainout yesterday, the Kernels and Hot Rods attempted a shot at two today. In the first half of the doubleheader Luis Rijo was on the bump. Turning in six solid innings of work, he allowed just one earned run (three total) while fanning five and walking none. Uber prospect Wander Franco generated the game’s first run on an RBI single, but a passed ball allowed the Kernels to even the score at one in the bottom of the third. David Banuelos homered in the fourth giving the home team the lead, but a 2-run shot in the fifth wiped that away and gave us the final tally. Game 2- Cedar Rapids 6, Bowling Green 4 Box Score Working game two on the day, Austin Schulfer turned in four innings allowing just one earned (two total) run. He picked up six strikeouts and walked just two batters. Leaving with the game knotted, a decision remained up in the air. Cedar Rapids found themselves looking at a 2-0 deficit when the entered the bottom half of the third inning. A Ben Rodriguez double wiped that out as both Gabriel Maciel and Chris Williams scampered home. Once again the Hot Rods would lead by two, but this one would be overcome quickly. In the fifth Rodriguez drove in Williams again, and Jacob Pearson crossed the plate on a double play. Andrew Bechtold cracked his second dinger of the season, and when the inning was over, the Kernels led 5-4 into the 6th. Having done damage all night long, Williams added to the lead with his fifth homer of the season, and Cedar Rapids was ahead by the eventual winning score of 6-4. Joe Record was able to pick up his fifth save on the season, which is a Midwest League season high. More rainouts on the farm made for somewhat of a muted schedule on Wednesday, but the Kernels helped the organization to avoid a sweep with a big win in game two of their doubleheader. Rochester tallied runs despite coming up short, and Pensacola saw a 2018 breakout have an impact once again. Read about it below.TRANSACTIONS Fort Myers Miracle RHP Bailey Ober placed on the seven-day IL with a right ulnar nerve subluxation RED WINGS REPORT Scranton/WB 8, Rochester 6 Box Score Zack Littell got the start for Rochester tonight and turned in seven innings of strong work. Twins Minor League Report (4/24): Wahoos Walk Off, Jax Cruises
Ted Schwerzler posted an article in Twins
TRANSACTIONS Minnesota Twins Recall RHP Kohl Stewart from Triple-A Rochester Recall RHP Fernando Romero from Triple-A Rochester Option RHP Tyler Duffey to Triple-A Rochester Option OF Jake Cave to Triple-A Rochester Reinstate LHP Gabriel Moya from MLB rehab and option to Triple-A Rochester Rochester Red Wings Received LHP Daniel Camarena from Double-A Pensacola injured list Transfer INF Drew Maggi to Double-A Pensacola Transfer INF Joe Cronin to Cedar Rapids Cedar Rapids Kernels Place RHP Andrew Cabezas on injured list with an ankle sprain Place INF Michael Davis on injured list with an ankle sprain Received RHP Jacob Blank from Elizabethton RED WINGS REPORT Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 5, Rochester 0 Box Score This one certainly had the feel of a piecemeal game for the Twins Triple-A affiliate. With two relievers getting early action, there wasn’t a starter getting into the grove. Recently optioned Gabriel Moya began the game, with rehabbing Matt Magill recording a single out in the second. Daniel Camarena made his organizational debut in this one, and he shouldered the largest workload, going 4 1/3 innings. The Red Wings allowed single runs in the second and third before a two-spot was tacked on in the sixth. Scranton added another run in the eighth which was enough to create a five-run deficit. On a night in which the home team tallied just three total hits, the 5-0 deficit was going to be plenty insurmountable. BLUE WAHOOS BITES Pensacola 1, Mobile 0 Box Score Flip-flopping the tally of last night’s action, the Blue Wahoos pushed across one run and came out on top. Griffin Jax continued his string of dominant work to start tonight, and went one out into the sixth inning allowing just two hits, striking out four, and issuing no free passes. https://twitter.com/BlueWahoosBBall/status/1121240795200270336 A ninth inning RBI single from Taylor Grzelakowski scored Caleb Hamilton to give Pensacola a walk-off win in this one. They were kept in the game through the late innings by more strong work from sleeper relief prospect Jovani Moran. Taking over for Jax in the sixth, he worked through the seventh and eighth innings as well. Moran’s only base runners came on two walks, and he fanned five. He’s now got a 1.80 ERA across ten innings in 2019. MIRACLE MATTERS Bradenton 3, Fort Myers 1 Box Score Jhoan Duran started this one for the Miracle and went five innings. Allowing just two runs on four hits and a walk, he had Fort Myers in a good spot. Despite taking his third loss of the season, Duran owns a quality 3.63 ERA to begin 2019. A two-run blast for the Marauders got the scoring started in the bottom half of the second, but Fort Myers halved the gap when Ryan Jeffers scored on a Mark Contreras sac fly in the top of the third. Tallying only five hits on the night, the Miracle never drew even, and Bradenton pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. For a lineup that has plenty of thump, this wasn’t the night for multiple contributors. Jose Miranda notched three of the team's five hits on his own, with Lewin Diaz and Ryan Costello accounting for the other two. The Miracle return home for a new series tomorrow night. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 4, Wisconsin 3 Box Score Luis Rijo was on the bump for his third start of 2019 in this one, but the pitch count got elevated and he lasted one out shy of completing five full innings. His night saw just two runs on two hits, but four walks were issued between the five strikeouts. Cedar Rapids staked Rijo to a two run lead early. Gabe Snyder opened the scoring on a triple in the first to drive in Gabriel Maciel. A dropped third strike on a wild pitch was enough for Trey Cabbage to scamper down to first with Snyder crossing the dish. From there, Cedar Rapids would create all distance before giving anything back. In the top half of the third it was Cabbage driving in Hunter Lee on a fielder’s choice. Lee then later swatted a solo shot, his second long ball of the year, to put the good guys up 4-0. Two Timber Rattlers came in against Rijo before he left in the fifth, and a third scored in the seventh. Wisconsin never did get the game-tying run and Derek Molina was able to lock up his first save of the season with a perfect ninth inning. There wasn't a ton of damage done on the offensive side of things for the Twins farm system tonight, but that doesn't stop the big highlight from coming out of the batter's box. TRANSACTIONS Cedar Rapids OF DaShawn Keirsey Jr. placed on 7-day IL with a right hip strain RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 5, Syracuse 4 Box Score Coming into 2019 Lewis Thorpe was among my favorite picks for a Twins prospect to debut at the big leagues sooner than anticipated. He’d put together a strong 2018, and looks the part of a rotation contributor at the highest level. Unfortunately his 2019 didn’t get off to a great start, but that changed today. https://twitter.com/TFTwins/status/1118701528846614530 Finishing one out shy of making it through six complete innings, Thorpe allowed just two runs on four hits while issuing a single free pass. The eye-popping number during his start was the 12 Syracuse batters he set down on strikes. He was also very efficient on the day, throwing 64 of 94 pitches for strikes. Scoring finally got underway in the middle innings. Randy Cesar drove in both LaMonte Wade and Wilin Rosario on a single to left fielder Tim Tebow. From there, Luke Raley helped to put up another pair of runs on his second homer of the season in the bottom half of the fifth. Thorpe ceded his two runs in the sixth, and while the Mets closed the deficit with single runs in the seventh and eighth, Rochester responded. Rosario, the former Rockies catcher, launched his fourth long ball of the year to put the good guys in the lead going into the ninth. Preston Guilmet was able to shut it down for the save. BLUE WAHOOS BITES Pensacola 5, Biloxi 2 Box Score Rolling through his start looking sharp, as he has all of 2019, Devin Smeltzer turned in four strong innings allowing two runs (one earned) while fanning four and walking one. Disaster struck when he was hit in the head by a comebacker sending him to the floor. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, but it was no doubt a scary scene nonetheless. https://twitter.com/ChrisGaragiola/status/1118686708978061313 The Blue Wahoos gave their starter a lead early in this one. Jimmy Kerrigan drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the first run in the top of the first inning. Adding two more in the second, singles from Jordan Gore and Brian Schales scored Joe Cronin and Luis Arraez respectively. After allowing the Shuckers to draw within one in the bottom half of the second, Pensacola added some distance in the sixth. Tanner English drove in Arraez to score his second run of the night, and a throwing error attempting to nail Schales gave Gore the chance to scamper home. Up by three with three innings to play, that was enough for Adam Bray and Sam Clay to slam the door. MIRACLE MATTERS St. Lucie 7, Fort Myers 2 Box Score Identical organizations squaring off as in the Triple-A action today, this one saw the Mets top the Twins farmhands. Jhoan Duran lasted just one out into the fourth inning, and needed 71 pitches to get there. Five strikeouts was a nice tally, but three runs and three walks while allowing four hits could’ve certainly been better. St. Lucie put up all of their damage in the fourth inning. Breaking a 0-0 tie, the Mets plated seven runs and raced out to a big lead. A Ryan Jeffers single in the sixth scored Jose Miranda, but the only other run came on Ryan Costello’s second home run of the year in the top of the ninth inning. Generating just five hits as a team, Fort Myers will look to wake up the offense again tomorrow when they host the Stone Crabs back home. At the highest level, one of the Twins most prized pitching prospects settled into a groove for his best start on the young season. A scary scene in Pensacola halted the action in the midst of a victory. Down in Fort Myers, it was a less than ideal way to end a road trip, but home cooking is on the horizon. Read about all the action below.TRANSACTIONS Cedar Rapids OF DaShawn Keirsey Jr. placed on 7-day IL with a right hip strain RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 5, Syracuse 4 Box Score Coming into 2019 Lewis Thorpe was among my favorite picks for a Twins prospect to debut at the big leagues sooner than anticipated. Motter then walked with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to push the lead out to 4-2. Pawtucket chipped away, adding runs in both the 7th and 8th innings. Recently signed big league veteran Brandon Phillips took Tyler Duffey deep for a three-run bomb to walk it off. Rochester can exact revenge tomorrow night in game two of the series. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 6, Mississippi 1 Box Score Dietrich Enns got the start in this one for the Lookouts, and thanks to five strong innings of one-run baseball, he picked up his first win of the season for the Lookouts. Recently promoted Tyler Wells piggybacked Enns in this one, and he was able to pick up a save in his Double-A debut. Working four hitless innings Wells recorded seven strikeouts and allowed no hits and just two walks. Chattanooga got on the board first thanks to Tanner English’s 15th double of the season. Plating Jaylin Davis and Jordan Gore, the Lookouts led 2-0 in the second. Newly acquired Luke Raley got Chattanooga going in the third, as he launched his first homer in his new organization. The two-run shot scored Brent Rooker as well. Davis then did some damage of his own, recording his ninth double of the season and pushing Chris Paul across the plate. After three, it was a 5-0 Chattanooga lead. In the seventh Davis recorded another RBI on a single that scored Raley. The 6-1 lead would hold up the rest of the way, and wound up being the final tally as well. Having taken the first two games of the series, Chattanooga will look to keep things rolling tomorrow night in game three of the five game set. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 7, Florida 1 Box Sore Brusdar Graterol took the ball in this one, and he did not give it up for six innings. Allowing just one unearned run on five hits, the Twins stud pitching prospect fanned five and walked none. After heading into their first raps trailing by a run, the Miracle got their own bats going. Royce Lewis led off with a walk, made second on a walk to Ernie De La Trinidad, stole third and then came across to score following a throwing error on the play at third. Alex Kirilloff made sure to get in on the action as well. His double to left field scored De La Trinidad and the Miracle had their first lead of the ballgame. The score sat at 2-1 all the way until the seventh inning. Robbie Rinn drove in both Ryan Costello and Travis Blankenhorn on his single past the shortstop. With a 4-1 lead, Fort Myers wasn’t quite done. In the eighth, De La Trinidad picked up his first double allowing Lewis to tally the fifth run. Ryan Costello then picked up his first Florida State League homer, and did so with Taylor Grzelakowski on base. Up 7-1, that’s where this one ended. These two teams will meet again tomorrow evening for game two of the three game series. KERNELS NUGGETS Peoria 5, Cedar Rapids 1 Box Score Starting for the Kernels tonight was Twins pitching prospect Blayne Enlow. He made it to one out into the sixth inning, and allowed five earned runs on nine hits. Across his 74 pitches, Enlow was able to get three strikeouts while just walking one. Scoring was tough to come by early on in this one as neither team got on the board until the fourth inning. Ryan Jeffers notched his sixth double, driving in Jose Miranda for Cedar Rapids. That sixth inning run was the Kernels' first of the contest, and had them down 2-1. That was all the offense the club could muster however, generating just five hits on the evening. The bats will look to wake up a bit more this weekend as Cedar Rapids returns home to host Beloit. E-TWINS E-NOTES Elizabethton 7, Pulaski 6 Box Score Andrew Cabezas was on the mount for the E-Twins in this one, and both teams did plenty of damage at the plate. Scoring a combined 13 runs on 18 hits, the lineups had their way with opposing pitchers this evening. Right away in the first inning, Yunior Severino got things going with a solo shot, his fourth of the year. In the second, Jared Akins extended the lead with a sac fly to score Gilberto Celestino. Continuing their trend, Elizabethton added two more in the third thanks to an RBI single from Trevor Larnach and an RBI single from Celestino. After giving up a run in the bottom half of the third, Elizabethton got it right back on a Severino RBI single in the fourth. Now leading 5-1, the cushion was starting to grow. Pulaski battled back however, and they tied the game at five in the bottom of the sixth inning. Robert Molina picked up his first home run of 2018; a two-run shot, to give the away team a 7-5 lead in the eighth. Pulaski got one back in the bottom half, but Zach Neff was able to slam the door to pick up his fourth save. Game two of this three game set will take place tomorrow night. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Twins 8, GCL Red Sox 0 Box Score With 10 hits on the day, eight of the nine starters for the Twins recorded a base hit. Christian Cavaness launched his first homer of the season, and Kidany Silva’s fifth double was the only other extra-base hit on the day. The GCL Twins tallied eight runs split between the second and third innings of this one and never looked back. These two teams will switch home fields and do it again tomorrow. Twins Minor League Report (4/13): Red Wings With Another Win In Extras
Ted Schwerzler posted an article in Minors
TRANSACTIONS Minnesota Twins OF Ryan LaMarre optioned to Rochester Rochester Red Wings OF James Ramsey to Elizabethton Chattanooga Lookouts LHP Tyler Jay to DL with a left groin strain Chattanooga Lookouts LHP Anthony McIver activated from DL Fort Myers Miracle RHP Brady Anderson promoted to Rochester Cedar Rapids Kernels RHP Ryan Mason promoted to Fort Myers RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 6, Gwinnett 4 (11 innings) Box Score On back-to-back nights, the Rochester Red Wings and Gwinnett Braves played in to extras. Following a 14-inning affair on Thursday, the two clubs needed 11 innings to settle the score on Friday. Thankfully for Rochester, the result was a similar one. With Brock Stassi starting as the runner on second base, Nick Buss singled to start off the top of the 11th. A Bobby Wilson double play could've spelled disaster, but Stassi scooted home to put Rochester up 5-4. After a Gregorio Petit single, and then steal of second and free pass to third on a wild pitch, Taylor Featherston was able to provide more damage. Zack Granite was intentionally walked to get to the Red Wings second basemen, and he delivered a single to drive in Petit. A Kennys Vargas groundout would later end the inning, but Rochester headed to the bottom half leading 6-4. Working his second inning of relief and looking to make up for the blown save in the 10th, Mason Melotakis went to work. Former Twins utility man Danny Santana struck out to start the inning, and despite a Ronald Acuna single leading to a first and third situation, Melotakis got the ground ball double play to end it. Rochester was scheduled to start Adalberto Mejia for this game, but went with a bullpen approach, leading with D.J. Baxendale. It would seem to suggest that Mejia was on tap to start for the Minnesota Twins had their game not being postponed for the evening. Jermaine Curtis led the way with three hits on offense, and the group consisting of Featherston, Vargas, Stassi and Petit each picked up two of their own. The Red Wings got their second win of the season, and will be looking for more of the same while hoping to give their relief corps some rest tomorrow night. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 3, Pensacola 2 Box Score Getting on the board early, the Lookouts were able to jump out to a 3-1 lead and hold on late for the victory. Randy LeBlanc earned the win with five solid innings on the bump, ceding just one run on three hits. Ryan Eades earned a three inning hold, and Williams Ramirez picked up the save in relief. The save was Williams' first of 2018, fifth of his career, and the first since being used briefly as a closer for Cedar Rapids in 2016. On offense, the damage was done at the top. Nick Gordon, Zander Wiel and Chris Paul each had a two-hit night for the Lookouts. Gordon scooted to his second triple of the season, and added his fourth RBI. Wiel picked up his second RBI of the year, and Ryan Walker was responsible for the third. Brent Rooker returned to the Chattanooga lineup tonight as the DH and went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Seven of the nine Lookout hitters tallied a base hit and the club went 3-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Inching closer to .500, Chattanooga will aim for their fourth win tomorrow evening. MIRACLE MATTERS Tampa 4, Fort Myers 0 Box Score Hits were at a premium for the Miracle on Friday night as Tarpon pitchers allowed just four to the Fort Myers lineup. Mitchell Kranson tallied the lone extra-base hit for the Miracle, his third double of the season. Charlie Barnes got the start and went 4.1 innings allowing just one run on four base hits. He also walked two while striking out five. Asked to follow up Barnes' effort, Hector Lujan was in the strike zone a ton, getting strikes on 30 of his 40 pitches thrown. Unfortunately the results yielded three more runs on seven hits, although he did strike out three. Andrew Vasquez was the final reliever out of the Miracle pen on the evening, and he turned in two scoreless innings while notching a strikeout. Opportunities were simply hard to come by as Fort Myers only went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, and only three runners were left on base all evening. They'll look to even the series tomorrow evening at Hammond Stadium. Phil Hughes will be making his second rehab start in that contest. KERNELS NUGGETS Clinton 2, Cedar Rapids 0 Box Score Bound to happen eventually, tonight was the night that Toby Gardenhire's squad took their first loss of the season. Despite giving up just two runs, the Kernels could muster only two hits and that wouldn't be enough to get the job done. Top prospect Royce Lewis tallied one of the two, with left-fielder Shane Carrier notching the other. The Kernels left only one runner on base all evening as they mustered just one walk while striking out 12 times. On the mound, Bryan Sammons twirled 5.1 innings of good baseball. He allowed just four hits while giving up an earned run and posting the same number of strikeouts and walks with three. Jovani Moran and Derek Molina came on in relief, both pitching well and keeping Cedar Rapids in the ballgame. Molina was hit with an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning to tally the final score. The Kernels will look to exact revenge on Saturday evening from Perfect Game Field.
