  1. Hyperbole much? The enormous mistake Molitor made was allowing Boshers to face Jackson in a close game, after he had already failed to retire a lefty and a switch hitter. The outcome of the Jackson at bat with Boshers pitching was extremely predictable. If Molitor already thought the game was lost by the 7th, he would have let Busenitz finish the inning.
  2. There hasn't been much to like most nights. On the plus side, Pressly only threw 2 pitches. Shouldn't affect his availability for today.
  3. Colon has been the Twins best starter since joining the team. If the Twins didn't have a good chance of winning this one in the first place, when will they against a quality opponent?
  4. If Perkins does come back, it sounds like Santiago could be removed from the 40 man by being placed on the 60 day DL. It wouldn't be an automatic season ender. Santiago has already been out 45 days.
  5. The runs he allowed, more accurately the runs Molitor allowed him to allow, certainly made a comeback far less likely. But, I agree, you aren't going to win many games scoring one run.
  6. I really don't believe FIP would be even a rough estimate of what Kintzler's ERA would be. In Kintzler's full seasons, his FIP has been within half a run of his actual ERA just once, in 2013. It's primary inputs (BB, K, HR) are all things he tends to have smaller than typical totals of. In other words, his FIP is always going to be skewed by SSS simply because the input data is small.
  7. I think that's a command issue. He's not yet capable of hitting his spots consistently. But he's got an upper 90s fastball and a biting breaking ball.
  8. Boshers should not be pitching to RHB in leverage situations. Poor bullpen management. Ladies and gentlemen, Paul Molitor.
  9. Busenitz has closer stuff. Not sure he has the mental capacity yet. He also needs to improve his command a bit, evidenced by that meatball. But the stuff is very good.
  10. Something wrong with Boshers filling that role possibly with O'Rourke as plan B or maybe Nik Turley? Boshers has been extremely effective vs LHB.
  11. From yarnivek's facebook feed, today in Twins history: 2011, Jim Thome hits HR number 600. It also marked the end of any reason to watch the team for the balance of the season.
  12. Cal Ripken Sr managed Jr for a year or so - in Ripken's prime. I'm not sure this would be any different. The only difference is that there are more "talking heads" out there than now. btw, not really advocating for Jake. Just consider the "conflict" to be a non-issue.
  13. FIP is going to be pretty useless to evaluate Kintzler IMO. The things that affect FIP the most are walks, strikeouts and homeruns. Kintzler tallies few of any of those.
  14. Interesting decision to use Hildenberger 3 days in a row instead of Belisle, which would have been just two days in the last 5 I believe. Was there any comment from Molitor on the subject postgame? Not saying I disagree with the decision. Obviously Belisle is not a long term answer for the 9th. Hildenberger looked good obviously, but he got tagged just yesterday. I'm not sure he's a long term solution either unless he finds a way to get lefties more regularly. Edit: Hmm. Not sure I'm reading his splits right. .400 ish OPS vs lefties? .800 + vvs righties. SSS, obviously. And I know I looked at his numbers some time before and was skeptical that he could get lefties. But his to date numbers don't show much of a split at all in the minors.
  15. And as I understand it, it only burns an option if he is optioned out for more than 20 days. I don't know when the Red Wings season is scheduled to end, but we are exactly 20 days from September 1.
  16. I believe the 26th man has to be someone already on the 40 man. Of course, nothing prevents the Twins from adding Gonsalves to it prior to that date.
  17. Possibly Molitor watched Enns not get anyone out the second time through the order.
  18. Other than Berrios, the Twins current starting pitchers aren't flamethrowers. For the most part, Gibson, Santana and Colon rely on command and movement to get outs. Every time I've seen/heard anyone discuss the subject, they say those type of pitchers tend to do worse with extra rest.
  19. Regardless, they can't keep him on rehab indefinitely. Eventually, the Twins will have to activate him. More to the point, prior to September 1. So they can't just not use him. The Twins will have to get some kind of usage from him at least until rosters expand.
  20. Actually, now that I think about it, I understand the logic too. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. Enns is the guy most likely to be lifted from the rotation when Santiago returns. I believe Santiago pitches tonight as well. Coincidence? I say no.
  21. Pitchers are already coddled too much. The strategy of the great Braves pitchers of the 90s and beyond was to throw MORE, not less. Jim Kaat always said that a pitchers arm will "rust out before it wears out". An extra day of rest means an extra start for the worst starter on the team. That is something you want to avoid. Even factoring in AAA, no one except Ervin figures to have more than 195 IP. There are exactly 50 team games left, so that is 10 times through the rotation. At most, a couple guys might make 11 more starts. Ervin will probably be at 210-215 IP. Adding in the 40 at AAA for Berrios, he might hit 195. He threw 170 last year, so not a big jump at all. In terms of pitches thrown, it might end up being a wash as Berrios threw a lot of pitches in few MLB IP last year. Gibson probably 165, assuming he actually makes 10 more starts. Assuming Mejia only misses two starts, he figures to check in at 155 to 160. That after 135 last year. Santiago, who knows? Maybe 150 if he makes 9 more starts. Point being, really no one has thrown more than they should.
  22. Twins still don't need 8 relievers. Not sure I see the logic of pushing everyone else back a day either. Why not just have Enns start Sunday? Instead of messing with the rhythm of one pitcher, the choice is to mess with 3?
