Max Kepler and the Cost of Silence
Buddy Holly replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I learned a long time ago that if you want respect you have to earn it. The government or no one can give it to you. If it’s given to you won’t respect it. What happened to Mr. Floyd was terrible. What is happening to cities and people’s lives is bad. Please Don’t lecture me or others on this site that we should bow to the owners view. I support the police. Blue lives do matter. If that offends you, to bad. Won’t be first or last time I offended someone. -

Twins All-Decade Team, the '60s (The Pitchers)
Buddy Holly replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some of the Twins greatest pitchers of all time on this list. Pitchers that pitched every 4 days, had to be in the game or be pulled for a pinch hitter. Pitched several complete games every year. Great time to watch and listen to the Twins. I'm just glad they didn't have "Numbers for Nerds" or social media to ruin this decade. Baseball played by great guys without big contracts, more for the love of the game. Great list Seth -
Twins All-Decade Team, the '60s (The Hitters)
Buddy Holly replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Watching and listening to these players was great. It's to bad that Tony O never had the medical advancements of today. He was the most complete player of the decade. He could hit, hit for power and field. Teams feared him more than Harmon. The other player that could have been better was Jimmie Hall. He was never the same after he got beaned. The racial tension on this team during the decade also effected them as a team. This will always be my greatest decade to watch Twins baseball.- 15 replies

First should Johan been on the ballot more than one year yes. Was he a HOF player based on his 4-5 good years No. I watched Koufax carve up the one of the best Twins teams. He gave up 2 runs in 3 games, 1 earned. He won 25 games 3 times, 137 complete games, 40 shutouts. For you younger people a complete game is when a pitcher pitches the whole 9 innings. I wonder how good Koufax could have been if he knew he only had to pitch 7 innings like Santana did most of the time. Koufax also had to pitch against every team in the NL 18 times and teams like Giants and others had killer lineups. Santana had the benefit of pitching in the AL central against AAAA team on most years. Don't get me wrong I really like Johan Santana but he is not in the same class as Koufax, and Koufax broke my heart in 1965 WS. Koufax is not over rated I watched him pitch and he was a Stud.

We continue to believe on this site, that all the "Pie in the Sky" players in the minors are going to be able to replace Rosario. He may have had a down year defensively playing hurt. But I'll role with Eddie in left for a few more years. Byron Buxton is a great fielder but never plays much. I don't see any articles on releasing him? If the Twins can sign Rosario for 8-10 million a year for next 4 years he is worth it. He hits and he is the straw that stirs the drink on this team. People get excited when Eddie is at the plate because he is exciting to watch. All these guys in the minors are worth more in a trade than Rosario will ever be at this point. Trade them before they are exposed.

Article: Where's the Weakness?
Buddy Holly replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Biggest weakness: NY Yankee's eat them for lunch! Figure out how to focus and beat good teams from the East. You can win the division, and then get swept by NY and it was all for nothing. Keep building a team for October baseball. They have a lot of work to do.- 39 replies

Article: MIN 1, HOU 0: Let’s Go Crazy
Buddy Holly replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree 5-5 against the Astro's, Yankee's, and Blue Jays is good, but you got to beat the teams in the East to get respect and start to change the culture if you want to take the next step. Cleveland still has the best Starters in AL and Lindor is back. You can't continue to win with only hitting HR. You got to manufacture runs when conditions dictate it. Good teams can do both, besides scoring 5 runs without hitting a HR, puts more pressure on the pitcher and defense. You have to be able to do both. I haven't seen a lot of " Small Ball". I like the winning, but sometimes you got to play the game smart late in the game. That is my point.- 87 replies

Article: MIN 1, HOU 0: Let’s Go Crazy
Buddy Holly replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Get Back in the Car Kids! Until the Twins beat the Yankees they are average. Then there is Boston, Toronto, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland. It's April, stay in the car and enjoy the ride, but I wouldn't schedule vacation for October yet unless you like to duck hunt. When the Twins start showing they can score runs without HR, it will be a good sign. Chris Russo said the other day, Hey can the Yankees keep it going and then he looked at the schedule and said the Twins are coming to town! I agree last night was good baseball, but I want to see more against good teams. Beat the Yankee's next week!- 87 replies

Trading Kepler at this point will not net a big return unless you want to wait years for that return. That being said, the twins hitting coaches should have been replaced this off season. Kepler and several other players regressed. Buxton needs to prove himself before you move his backup. Cave is not good in Center, he has problems with low line drive balls, they eat him up. Cave may be an option for lefthanded 1st baseman. The Twins are not going to win the Central without Pitching. Seattle wants to unload salary. How about Gordon for Gordon.

Article: Welcome to the New School
Buddy Holly replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Analytical Hijacking!!! Strikeouts, a few HR's, launch angle, exit speed, shifts, openers, more strikeouts. James Rowson got that strikeout thing down real good, really they kept him. Hefner scouts from video's really, he doesn't watch the game in person. Why do the Falvine whiz kids, remind me of the GM from "Trouble with the Curve". Who is the Baseball Guy in the room. -
I personally think Gonsalves is the most over rated player on this site. Watching him at the end of the season, I saw a soft tossing Lefty that had no control. He will need to develop control and vary the speed of his pitches to make it at the Major league level. If he starts getting the ball over the plate, he may be able to be effective in the weak Central division for now. He may be able to develop into a 4 or 5 starter with time but, I think Khol Stewart is better suited to make it in the majors. Gonsalves is a trade candidate before he is exposed more, it may already be to late. I would rate him in the 30's, I know that's may be cruel but he needs to prove to me he is more than a AAAA player.

So far what I have seen from Falvine is boring baseball. I hope Molitor retires at the end of the season so he doesn't have to be associated with this boring Product. I can't stand to listen to launch angle and exit velocity anymore. This team forgot how to play. Its feeble baseball. Boring! I been watching this team since the since the early 60's and have seen a lot of bad teams, but never anything this boring. I turn the channel now and watch re runs or the History channel over this boring product. You can keep your new analytic baseball.

What are the odds that Lo For ends up with more hits than LoMo had for the Twins (59)? He continues to get a couple hits every game.

Trades are not going to fix the Twins problems. The hitting and pitching coaches need to go. They have no clue how to straighten out players. This team has regressed and I blame the coaches. Every player is swinging for the fences. When they do the shifts, bunt and get them out of it. Yes I said BUNT, its a concept from when they use to play real baseball. Falvine are destroying this team with there Analytics only approach. I watched to 70's Orioles team destroy a great pitching staff with a radar gun. Molitor needs to start managing and tell Falvine to stay away or I'm out of here. I want to watch real baseball not this excuse!

Ignored NO! It takes time to rebuild a whole power grid, when everything has to be shipped to the island. They had no people to rebuild it themselves. They are broke 75 billion in debt before the hurricane. Economy went bad when tax laws changed years ago. Young people are leaving and Puerto Rico has an aging work force, without a plan.

This may be the warmest day for the next few weeks. Snowed in the Dakota's last night. Temps in single digits with wind chills below zero for weekend. Opening day next week at Target field rain and cold. I expect at least 5 canceled games in April. With a bullpen that gets used and abused due to the weather. Not smart to schedule all these games in Minnesota for April. Not to mention 4 games in NY. Merry Christmas, I got to go shovel snow before game time.
-
The weather and schedule is going to have a big influence on this relief staff. With snow storms and rain in the forecasted for the weekend and next week. The cold weather and rain delays will effect the length starts, putting more work on the relief staff. Who schedules this many games in Minnesota in April? The second thing that will effect this relief staff is Baltimore, New York, Houston, Seattle and Toronto on the schedule in first 30 games. These teams have a lot of big hitters that can mess up a relief staff. My bet is that several changes will be made in the first month. I don't think we are going to get a clear idea of this relief core until well into May. When a staff is built in 80 degree Fort Meyers in March and plays in 30 degree Minnesota to start the season.

Article: Hard Work Jorge Pays Off
Buddy Holly replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The one thing all the stats don't take into account for Polanco's first half of the season is the human factor. He lost a family member and this affected him. He has hit at every level. I throw the first half of 2017 out. We forget that players are human like everyone and stats don't track this. I give Molitor credit for knowing this and letting Polanco to play through the first half and not making it a issue. There is more to life and baseball than a bunch of stats. -
Article: Gleeman & The Geek, Ep 349: Duke & Sano
Buddy Holly replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have read a lot of articles on the Sano incident and tend to believe that the young lady has merit in her claims. With that said I disagree with the #Me too movement. This movement goes against everything I learned in 30 years of management. Rule #1 confidentiality has to be adhered to. The #Me too movement makes everything public. Rule #2 if you see something or hear of something, as a person of management it must be reported in confidentiality. If someone on the Twins Daily staff heard of this or the Twins it needed to be documented and addressed. Harassment needs to be dealt with or you loose credibility. The young lady needed to know up front that she would be protected and should have not been afraid to come forward at the time. The bad thing about #Me too it takes away confidentiality and creates miss trust between the men and women. Men become gun shy and don't want to work around women. I have had to deal with this a lot over the years. I have had to deal with all kinds of harassment in the work place and it goes both ways. The worst kind is baiting. Some women will bait men into thinking they can say anything and then put it in their pocket to use later if they need it. I'm not saying all women do this but it does exist and many men fall trap to it. When someone says something out of line either sex needs to say that is not acceptable talk in my company. The Twins I hope have a Code of Conduct and train on it at all levels. It's a lot easier to deal with, when everyone knows the rules. It seems this hasn't been the case. When I started working, problems were handled on the job site. You usually never wanted to go through that scenario again. Today problems are a lot more complicated with social media, diverse work force and a highly divided country. My comment is not to fault anyone, but to give a perspective into the incident. I hope the young Photographer has some peace in this situation and Mr. Sano learns and grows from this incident. -

Article: From The Handbook: Twins Payroll
Buddy Holly replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think there will be as big of contract clearing next year as everyone dreams. If Joe Mauer has a similar 2018 as 2017, wants to continue playing, he will get a contract in the $15 mil range from the Twins for a few years. Dozier is more valuable to the Twins than what they can get in a trade. I would expect $18-20 mil range extension for 4 years min. This is probably light. Some of the Berrios, Kepler, Rosario, and Buxton will get contracts going forward. Unless someone steps it up Castro will be extended beyond 2019. I expect the Twins to spend but not in $100 mil plus range everyone is dreaming.
