Article: Sano Going To Let It Eat
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
These aren't maybe, maybe not questions. These are yes and yes. No doubt if Sano gets in better shape it would lengthen his career, ceteris parabis. And obviously no matter what he does he's going to be a big guy, but there's a difference between 290 and 250 lbs. Even if that keeps him a little quicker or more agile for a year so he can be a 3rd baseman through age 28 instead of age 26. I like Sano and I know he'll end up at 1B/DH, but no doubt he should be busting his butt every day to be at 3B because his value becomes a lot greater to the Twins. -
Article: Tampa Open To Trades
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My thought would still be hope we sign Darvish and wait till the deadline. If we're contenders then ship out some of the farm for a starter or reliever. But if we can get Darvish then let's hope we get to July with a good record then go hunting for a good pitcher. I like this post tho. We have a lot of prospects that could be major leaguers some day and there's won't be room for all of em on our roster. Hope we contend this year and the prospects take another step then move some for a pitcher. -
Article: Building A Super Bullpen
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes exactly what I was thinking. Even as a starter to begin the year. One year deal would be a great fit. Say we get Darvish and we have Darvish, Santana, Berrios, Liriano, Gibson. Then we can start Mejia in AAA or in the pen. When Liriano struggles a little bit or Mejia lights up AAA move him to the pen.- 53 replies

Kanley, Duffy, Pressley, Busenitz, Rogers, Hildenberger, Rodney This our bullpen when we head Minnesota in late March? Little underwhelming for what everyone was saying they thought they would do. But if Kanley is OK, and guys like Curtis, Jay, Reed, Eades, Moya step up and just one can have the impact Hildy did it'll look a lot better. Also if Pineda joins the pen in September he could maybe be an impact arm. I really hope we're all in on Darvish though...

Article: Twins Sign RHP Michael Pineda
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm obviously still assuming we'll sign/trade for another starter this offseason. If we can do that and acquire one reliever I think it's been a good offseason. If we get one of Archer, Stroman, or Cole for a reasonable trade or sign one of the top 4 starters and are able to get kintzler, Rodney, Cishek or a guy like that I'll be happy. -

Just a thought I had for a long time. Worth the risk and I'm glad Twins did it! -
Article: Winter Meetings: Reliever Roulette
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd like to see us maybe get McGee assuming he is not too expensive. I like the three guys above too tho. Also would anyone take a risk on Pineda? Maybe he comes back this year and could help the pen at the end of the year then next year slides in as a starter. I see an injured Smyly got 2 years $10 mil with $6 mil in incentives. I wouldn't mind a similar deal for Pineda and we sign Rodney to a 1 year deal or another guy to a 2 year deal. -
Article: Winter Meetings - Search For A Starter
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have no idea the cost of it but if the Marlins are just giving away players it would be interesting for the Twins to make Kepler/Rosario available in a trade for a pitcher then use prospects to acquire Ozuna or Yelich. Not saying I would do it but in the right scenario if we had to give up one of those guys to acquire a top pitcher we could easily turn around and look into what they would cost us.- 169 replies

Article: Hopes And Plans For Trevor May
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great in-depth post here. I love the plan drawn out. As I was reading this I was thinking about how I am expecting the twins will add one pitcher but I am really hoping they're able to add two. One signing and one via trade w/o giving up pitching prospects. Then heading into the year if they have Santana, Berrios, Mejia, Gibson, Romero, Gonsalves, Jorge and two outsider players. Obviously I don't plan on the last three getting a lot of starts, but I feel confident if they need to make a few cuz someone is on the DL.- 33 replies

2018 Off-season Plan - Trade Edition
BuxtonBandwagon commented on butterspud's blog entry in Twinkie Talk
I love a good post about trades. And I like the trades for pitching. Most of those I would probably do if the other teams would take. I would look into trading for a package of Gerrit Cole and Felipe Rivero. 2 years of Cole and 4 years of Rivero Or a package of Marcus Stroman and Roberto Osuna. 3 years of control of each In return I hope a package of Mejia, Gordon, Romero, Duffey, Stewart/Jorge, Wade/Badoo, Palacios/Miranda, and Jake Reed. Obviously you could do a lot of shuffling with the guys after Mejia Gordon and Romero. Depending on what the teams like you could change just about anything after those guys and add any prospects in our system outside of the top 6-7. I know it'd be a big package but I'd really look into giving up what it takes to get them. I'm not sure if either team is looking to sell yet but we maybe could get Toronto to if they got rid of them then they'd probably trade Donaldson. Pittsburgh may be looking to retool or rebuild so we might need more high upside low level players for a rebuild or might have to throw in a major league player for a retool. That would be tough for me as I really would prefer to not give up any major league position players. -

Brining this up makes me I think. I know it's been a year and hicks didn't perform well offensively last year but would people already call this a bad trade? At least hicks will be on the Yankees big league roster. I would rather have hicks right now.- 14 replies

The one thing I hope to see this year is molly trying different lineups based on who's hot and who's pitching. One thing nobody has talked about on this thread because molitor said it's not gonna happen is buxton batting leadoff. I know he doesn't have the ideal on base % and most of his hits are extra base hits I wouldn't mind seeing him batting leadoff. A lot of the doubles he hits would be singles for most players but he turns them into doubles. So if he's leading off games with a double or a single then stealing second and mauer is walking or doing his ground out to second then you got buxton at third with dozier and sano coming to bat. Also I don't mind dozier leading off if he's most comfortable there Vs RH Buxton/Dozier Mauer Dozier/Buxton Sano Kepler Park Castro Polanco Rosario Vs. LH Buxton/Dozier Grossman Dozier/Buxton Sano Kepler Park Polanco Giminez Escobar

I'm really beginning to wonder what will come next year if guys like gonsalves, Romero, jay, Stewart, and Jorge are all ready for the majors. We will need rotation spots for berrios and may. Hughes, Santana, and Gibson will probably still be around, unless possibly traded. Also mejia could be in the running for a rotation spot. Pitching depth is good so this makes me happy. But it is also a good reason to trade Santana if a good offer comes around. I'm excited to see what comes of all of this and who stays and who goes, who produces and who fails to make. Hopefully all these guys succeed and for once we have too much pitching!

I mean I like the thinking here and the hope is buxton and polanco will be a great 1 & 2 someday, but isn't the point of the 1&2 spots to get on base so when dozier/Sano hit bombs there's guys on base. Also I don't have a problem with grossman as our 4th outfielder. It's been said before on here that when he was with Houston he was an average fielder so I'm hoping he improves this year. Plus we have 3 good defensive outfielders playing everyday so I have no problem with a guy that'll play once or twice a week being below average defensively if he hits. Let granite develop and come up when he is ready.

Another big similarity between the Wolves and Twins is each team was coming off momentum from the last year and could've added a few veteran pieces to help the young guys, but both chose not too and the teams struggled. Hopefully they both can turn it around though

Article: Other Offseason Shopping Needs
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really like the comments made about Torii Hunter. I think a guy like that is exactly what the Twins need, here is an interesting little thing on Hunter. 2007 Angels(pre Hunter) 94 wins, 2008 Angels (with Hunter) 100 wins 2012 Angels(with Hunter) 89 wins, 2013 Angels(w/o Hunter) 78 wins 2012 Tigers(pre hunter) 88 wins, 2013 Tigers (with Hunter) 93 wins 2014 Tigers(with Hunter) 90 wins, 2015 Tigers (w/o Hunter) 74 wins 2014 Twins 70 wins, 2016 Twins 59 wins, Sandwich 2015 with Hunter in there and there's 83 wins. This is pretty incredible, obviously there's a lot of other aspects to go with this, but no doubt no matter what type of performance he's giving you, Torii Hunter makes a team a lot better. WAR is obviously very popular stat used but WAR doesn't really tell you how many wins a guy like Torii Hunter is worth. -
Really good thought on this one. It seems far fetched but I like the idea of swapping Santiago for Ryu and love the idea of Grossman for Puig, this is assuming hopefully the Dodgers wanna get rid of Puig which could be likely. But like other posts said I don't think the Dodgers wanna get rid of bullpen pitching. So maybe this is a little better, Dozier, Santiago, Grossman, Kintzler for JDL, Ryu, Puig, Stewart or Buehler, and Calhoun(just cuz it seems like the dodgers fan seem very willing to get rid of him) This is all very unlikely as trades like this never go down and there is a lot of stuff to work through, but its fun to think about!

http://dodgerblue.com/would-brian-dozier-twins-trade-prove-too-costly-dodgers-prospects/2016/12/29/ Here a dodgers writer writes that they could trade Calhoun, JDL, and Stewart or Sheffield for Dozier and Kintzler. He makes it seem like Kintzler has some value. This seems like a reasonable trade.

Reading on it the plan for the Nats would be to move Murphy to first and Zimmerman to the bench, it seems they're fed up with his play. So yes there is a spot for Dozier with Turner in center like last year and Espinosa at short and Murphy 1B. Really though watching the AL central people would take Eaton for 5 over Dozier for 2. You have no clue where you will be in 5 years anyways, you will have lost Harper, Werth and Murphey so why not get the better player and win this yeat or next? they'll still have an outfield of Werth, Turner and Harper. It's hard after Dozier had an incredible year for a 2B and Eaton had a slightly above average in RF, that the Nats would do this trade for Eaton before snyone else. Eaton has value but not as much as he was traded for.

It's a good point, but I still just have a hard time finding more value in Eaton. It's just way easier to find an outfielder that will replace Eatons value than it is to find a guy that will do what Dozier does. Every year there's a ton of Eatons available in free agency, of course at a higher price. Also I get Dozier won't put up 42 homers again, but the fact he puts up 25 in a half of a baseball season provides hope. It's not like the pirates traded for Eaton looking for a deal, it was the Nationals who would have no problem with money issues. I just think you can find Eatons other places, but there is not a lot of Doziers.

So a below average CF defensively with an OPS of .790. And I know its just one websites opinion but bleacher report said Dozier was the best secondbaseman in baseball. If he's not the best he's top 5 no doubt. You bring up really good points using WAR and salary, but if you were to draft a team Dozier would be picked way ahead of Eaton. If you could have two years of dozier or 5 of eaton i'm no doubt taking Dozier. And if you're the nationals and harper is gonna be gone in two years isn't your best chance to win now? So why not take the 2 years of dozier instead? And if players are graded on surplus value of their salary from WAR I bet there would be some real funny player rankings....

I get the 5 years of Eaton to 2 of Dozier helps Eaton a lot, but really a below average CF now gets a better trade than a player that was the best second basemen in baseball last year?

Article: Official Winter Meetings Tuesday Thread
BuxtonBandwagon replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thinking about what the Red Sox have done is really impressive. Jackie Bradley Jr(who struggled early but found success), Bogaerts, Betts, Bennintendi(who was taken after Tyler Jay), Moancada, Swihart, and they still have Devers(a top 20 prospect in the minors). That is a heck of a line up that they have developed. Let's hope the twins can develop the our young players and prospects the same. A lot of them have shown potential but need to sustain it. We have lots of elite talent (Buxton, Sano) and lots of very good talent (Kepler, Polanco, Gordon, Rosario). So obviously one day if we can get the most out of these guys like the Red Sox have their prospects and develop our young pitching we can be looking at a bright future.- 120 replies
