  1. Why were we not in on Jean Segura? .353 OBP over the past 3 seasons, and would've filled a positional need.
  2. I'm late to the game and didn't have time to read thru all the comments, but love the idea of Romero in the bullpen for a season or two. Johan Santana did not become a full-time starter until his 5th season with the Twins. Seemed to work out pretty well for him and the Twins. Let Romero learn in the pen and mature, and if things work out, move him back to a starter down the road.
  3. I understand Garver was not Option A; he was supposed to be the backup. However, after last night, among all catchers in baseball with at least 200 plate appearances, he ranks 7th in BA, 6th in OBP and 10th in WAR. There is ZERO reason he should be in a 50/50 split with Bobby Wilson. He should be playing 2 out of 3 at a bare minimum. Yet another reason to LOVE Molitor's 'managing'.
  4. Escobar. He could our starting 3B for the next 3-5 years, depending on how the Mauer situation plays out. Sano looks headed toward DH or 1B on a full time basis.
  5. Escobar should be our new full time 3B. Sano can be the DH when he comes back. Bring Gordon up to play SS, Dozier and Mauer can man the right side. When Polanco comes back, if we are out of it, Dozier will be shipped out and Polanco and Gordon can be the middle infielders.
  6. Maybe last year was the fluke year, not this year. He had a .245/.325/.416 career line with a 104 OPS+ over his first 7 years in the league. I feel like I drank the kool-aid when they signed him and am now realizing there is no antidote.
  7. Kurt Suzuki currently has a .333/.412/.596 slash line after posting .283/.351/.536 last year. Wait...how the hell did he hit 19 HR's in 81 games last year? What is going on???
  8. Blackmon slashed .391/.466/.773 at home last year versus .276/.337/.447 on the road. I'm thinking there may be a Coors Field Effect in the numbers you're supplying.
  9. Perhaps a reference to hitting the ball a long way, as stated by Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy, aka) Let the big dog eat. Cross this with Sano who also hits the ball a long way, but also likes to eat a lot. Just a guess.
  10. "Based on his genetics". So he shouldn't try to do anything about his weight, just make excuses that because of his genes, he is predisposed to being overweight and the Twins should just live with it? Also, your stat comparison fails to take into account that Joe produced the bulk of those numbers playing CATCHER, a physically demanding, and extremely important defensive position. You also point out in Sano's line that he's battled injuries and still has a few seasons left of his prime. You should also then point out that Joe's numbers include several years of the decline side of his career and years in which he, too, battled injuries. One of the main takeaways from the article should be that Sano's value is significantly lower if he is no longer able to play in the field because he's too slow and fat. That's something he does have at least some control over.
  11. Why is no one talking about the fact that he's an absolute jackwagon? The clubhouse needs leaders, not cancers. His personality, combined with his age, the cost (salary and draft pick), and the fact that he's coming off a poor season make it a hard pass for me. I read this article awhile back which highlights the fact that he's not a popular dude...with anyone. http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/77229/what-if-nobody-wants-jose-bautista
  12. I am as well. I literally stopped reading the article when it said Chargois had been sent back down. I want to see Terry gone, and I want to see Dougie Baseball manage the young guys. He's had success with them at several levels, he's fiery, and he's young. I think he could push the right buttons and get the younger guys playing at a higher level.
  13. I'm glad someone finally wrote this. Bastardo has been very good every other year, and he's been below league average the other years (if you go by ERA+). Long term deals for relievers rarely work out. Give the kids a chance.
