  1. Agreed. It was bound to happen. Probably should have been earlier.
  2. I'm not sure "mirage" is the right term, but I agree with your general point. They're benefiting from a terrible division. I don't think they really intended to be in this position this season, but are taking advantage of it. I think they're offseason plan was to keep the valley shallow instead of bottoming out by keeping a relatively competitive team intact with the intent of getting the youth some major league experience in the process. I think they're still largely doing that, they just happen to be on top of the division in the process. Their goal was always to be much more competitive next season, and like you mention, the deadline acquisitions bear that out too. And they did that without dealing a top 10 prospect in the process.
  3. I actually sold my tickets to a friend, but that was before the concert was announced. I'm not a country fan either, but I may have stuck around because I do enjoy concerts. I'd be less than functional today if I did though.
  4. Sucks that he's done...thankful it ain't TJ.
  5. I'm just waiting to hear that all of these deals have a hidden PTBNL clause in them somewhere that requires that player to be plucked from the major league roster and has all-star appearance minimum requirements.
  6. No, too many teeth. And no mention of number of beers.
  7. Or a Game Threader that's had too much Scotch. Luckily for me, it's been documented that that isn't me!
  8. Thanks for straightening me out... maybe...I think...
  9. Chief, you really should give me an opportunity to get my money back!
  10. There are only so many spawn of former big leaguers available, Chief. And it seems as though Toronto has a monopoly on them!
  11. Seems about right on all fronts. I still don't trust Cleveland or Chicago to maintain a pace to catch the Twins given their inconsistency. I'd likely say that about all three of these teams in any order though, and give the advantage to the team in 1st. Also not surprised that they didn't move the needle much on winning it all. While improved, the pitching still doesn't look good enough in my view and the bats are too inconsistent. The bats rely way too much on the long ball and I still don't think that's a recipe for success in the playoffs facing better pitching every game.
  12. I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say that the bullpen is a strength, but I'm certainly less concerned about it than I was. They're going to have to show me more than once that they can lock down a game. And preferably against stronger competition than Detroit. That said, I like the additions that were made. It was great to watch a game that I wasn't just waiting for the impending implosion for once.
