  1. No Pass/Fail option? Solid B for me. Pretty much the highest grade I could reasonably expect.
  2. Agreed, but some basic fundamentals shouldn't need to be taught in the minors though either. They're fundamentals. You learn that stuff in little league. That said, there were times were you have guys that haven't played the outfield before manning the outfield. There are positional fundamentals too and if you've never played that position before (or not very often anyway), it's unreasonable to expect them to be well versed in them. I don't think the game is taught the same way anymore anyway, so all of this is somewhat moot.
  3. I tend to agree on the fundamentals part. It's pretty discouraging. I would like to point out there have been a few players that have been brought up over the last couple of seasons that were called up earlier than they should have been out of necessity due to injuries. They clearly weren't ready, but it is frustrating that the fundamentals were still lacking. They're called fundamentals for a reason.
  4. I'm intrigued, but I think some other dominos need to fall, and fall the wrong way, before I'd get real serious about going after him.
  5. At some point, this team is going to have to start clearing out the glut of corner position types. It makes sense to move members of the old core that are blocking younger players. If Kepler can bring back useful pitching in return, dealing him makes a ton of sense.
  6. To be clear, one of these scenarios has already happened in the future! That's exciting!
  7. That's what I got out of what you were saying. I wanted to reinforce your point with my own two cents. We don't know what's said during negotiations, so to pretend that it's just about the money is missing the larger point. Some players simply don't want to go somewhere, so the money is irrelevant.
  8. Each player is different and each player will have different reasons and priorities for signing where ever they decide to sign. To say "how much money" would be an oversimplification in many situations. Obviously it would be true for some players, but certainly not all of them. And even then, that figure probably varies from player to player. So, I don't think there's a magic formula to this one.
  9. I found those signings humorous too though. I'm sure they'd cheer Correa on if he was wearing their jersey. It all depends on whose ox is being gored.
  10. I always thought that the Dodgers pursuing Correa was comical for the exact reason they're supposedly out.
  11. Retooling? That's what I feel they did last offseason. Correa signing notwithstanding. Them not signing anyone at this point doesn't mean a whole lot considering who has come off the board. Their prime target is still out there. With reports that Arraez is being dangled, it would appear that they're more likely to trade for pitching than sign FAs. Hard to glean much at this point in the offseason. I'm not one that ever expects them to be heavy spenders during the winter meetings, so their perceived inactivity is just par for the course. Ask me again when pitchers and catchers are about to report.
  12. I'm not as anti-Kepler as many around here, but I'm still not sure what to do with Kepler. I'm not against trading him. I'm not opposed to keeping him. The rule changes and their impact on him do make me wonder what we'll see from him at the plate, but I'm not sold on any of it. I need to see it. I'm kind of indifferent towards him, I guess. And I find myself leaning more towards moving on from him to allow the next crop of young players to come up.
  13. Right, that's why I prefaced my statement and included the "at the moment". I don't think he gets them there, but I do think he helps get them there. Hard to judge the potential signing without seeing what else they do. A glut of SS prospects is never a bad thing to have. Lewis has proven to be athletic enough to play basically anywhere. They can also be traded for something of need. I don't really see a Correa signing as being a negative. It's the potential of 10 years and a no trade that I don't like.
  14. Yup, basically. They would have at least gotten his primes years in that scenario. That's something.
  15. I'll preface this by saying I really don't like the 10 year + no trade bit either. But, this team does need a SS. There's no real in-house option that is healthy at the moment. And if Lewis does come back, he's still not an established player. There are still questions (though, he passed the eye test to me). And just because he's got a no trade, that doesn't mean that he wouldn't be willing to waive it. Obviously there is risk there though. He's entering what should be his prime years, so if you're going to spend the money, it's probably the best fit and situation in which to do it.
  16. If the right deal comes along, I think they've got to do it. They won't be a serious threat to win anything in the playoffs until they can match the frontline pitching being thrown at them. And they're kinda in no-man's land with the bats too. Dealing a productive bat stings, but I have greater hopes that the bats rebound than I do that the pitching drastically improves.
  17. Houston seems to have made out okay on that one...
