  1. Did he whup you on the basketball court? Or was it at a bar? (queue Chief response)
  2. Joe Maddon almost lost the Cubs the WS last year with some very questionable, if not downright terrible, tactical decisions. But I believe nobody talks about it much because he's considered to be very good at a bunch of other things, including leading a team and building team unity. It's hard to find someone who ticks all of the boxes. It does seem like this team is resilient and together. Not sure what happened in 2016, but Molly must be doing something right in that way this year. I wonder whether and to what extent the FO gives any guidance in tactics during the season. Molly definitely does some odd things with the lineup. As for the bullpen, there are times I'm bemused at his decisions (as are many on this site), but he hasn't been given the best staff to work with. He'd probably look a lot smarter with Cleveland's staff.
  3. How about Belisle? I never thought he'd work as a closer. But he came in for the third straight day, struck out two, and got a one-pitch pop-out. I think he's already earned his salary this year.
  4. I'm hoping our boys are thinking more about catching the Yankees than holding off the rest of the pack. It was a great run for this Royals team. Let's end it for them.
  5. I know we complain about Molitor's lineups sometimes, but why is Moustakas batting 6th? He has 35 homers and is second on the team in OPS. Wouldn't you want him batting 4th every night?
  6. Just looked at a map of the smoke, and KC is right in the middle of it. It's probably worse up here in the mountains, but it's still heading east from here and disbursing across the plains.
  7. We're breathing smoke from the Montana fires all the way down here in New Mexico. I wonder if Kansas City's air is also affected. Heard other stories from friends about people stuck in Florida, deciding whether to try to drive, or worried about getting on the road, getting stuck in traffic, running out of gas and then getting hit by the hurricane while on the road. Here's hoping the path of this monster misses Florida as much as possible.
  8. Out of curiosity, I just went and read about six articles by Souhan about Mauer spanning from about 2011-May 2017. Souhan is incredibly harsh on Mauer and his "so-called" bilateral leg weakness, $184 million owed to him, refusal to play a different position for the good of the team . . . I could go on, but it makes me angry.
  9. This is really the sad part of this. And I think this was Gleeman's main point. Now that we've publicly labeled Sano as allegedly having a weight problem that allegedly the Twins FO is concerned about, for the rest of his career he may be hearing about it every time he gets hurt or looks slow or slumps. I hope that's not the result. It's discussions like this that may help avoid this result.
  10. So was there some sort of diet emergency here, where they had to get the story out to the public before the offseason? If it helps, I promise not to feed him.
  11. True, but we do know that it wasn't breaking news that had to be published before someone else scooped the story . . . right?
  12. I'd have waited until the offseason, talked to people about what happened during the season, I would talk to people about the fitness and diet regimen for the offseason going forward, and maybe even talk to Sano about what he's doing going forward and what he's done in the past. I think that would make the whole topic relevant, and would not make it seem like I just decided it's a good time to pick on a young athlete who's probably really frustrated that he can't play right now. This is not breaking news that had to be published before someone else scooped the story.
  13. I have enjoyed reading the article and the comments about this topic, and I think it's an important topic. It would be nice if Souhan could participate in this, but judging from his last blog or article (whatever it was), he'd likely get banned by the moderators for gratuitous ad hominem attacks.
  14. Other than catcher (possibly), this seems to be the best defensive lineup we can field.
  15. I love Bert, but he just said that Kiermeier had a good read on Longoria's hit to right, which is why he made it home easily. Great analysis, except there were two outs.
  16. I think Duffey is more effective as a reliever. He can dial up his fasrball and strike out great hitters with it -- Hosmer and Cain, for example.
  17. Remember how the Royals crushed us to end our hopes in 2015? It's payback time.
  18. Apparently, you missed the part where I said, "Maybe that wasn't the best system, but . . . ." From that, you assume that I want a press that only supports the team? My point is that there should be a middle ground. Was that really not clear from what I actually wrote? Maybe we should just have trolls for sportswriters, and we can engage in Twitter wars instead of thoughtful debate?
  19. Even if Souhan was "fed" the article, he had a choice to decide if it was newsworthy at this time. He could have sat on it until the off-season and then he could have spoken to more people with the benefit of the full season behind us, and the off-season plans forming. We used to have a local sports press who supported the team, and would even avoid publishing harmful negative stories. Maybe that wasn't the best system, but I don't necessarily like the way our society is going now, with even local sports writers looking for negative stories about our own players so they can get more attention. I love watching Sano. He's a great player, and seems like a good teammate and fun guy to be around. Here's hoping for him to have a quick return for the wild card race.
  20. I trust that guy they put into the game with a lead of 8 or more runs in the 8th inning or later . . . except against the Astros.
  21. Watched the Rockies on TV last night, and saw Chad Bettis throw 7 shutout innings, and the bullpen chipped in two more -- against a lineup that had Kurt Suzuki batting 5th and DanSan batting 6th. Oh, what could have been . . . .
