  1. I hope they don't call him up. What about those AAAA players on the fringe of the 40-roster. They're probably all the next David Ortiz or Liam Hendriks. /s
  2. Exactly. Players seem to perform better when they earn a position vs being handed it. Not unlike most things in life.
  3. Look up what the Twins gave up to acquire Farmer. They aren't much in return. Good teams have starter quality backups. Farmer is a perfect fit for this team right now and the Twins can always reevaluate at the trade deadline.
  4. I understand the value of multimedia, but please identify the medium in the headline, at minimum. Personally, I'm never going to watch these. I prefer to keep the sound off while using devices and I don't find watching people talking to their phones to be interesting.
  5. Stadium radar guns are a marketing tool, not a coaching tool, correct? I'd love to see an independent study on that. Though I'm sure MLB wouldn't allow it.
  6. I misread this as a different D Santana and had a mild heart attack.
  7. Balazovic is definitely make or break. The others are lower in the system yet. I really don't care about #s below AA. Sure, good numbers are good but... sometimes it takes a while to figure it out. And a lot of 1st round picks have never struggled before pro ball, so it's a mental battle too. The odds are stacked against all 3 for sure. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and progress.
  8. Apologies if this already exists and I missed it, but I enjoy this ongoing log each year. I'll start it: Ben Rortvedt out for at least a month. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/02/frankie-montas-ben-rortvedt-yankees-shoulder-surgery.html
  9. I'm surprised there are so few names over 10 years, honestly. I think that highlights a lot of recent discussion here: just how long a player is considered a prospect.
  10. Arbitration is known for this. He either didn't listen to his agent or has a bad one. If he's so offended by this, what will set him off next time? I wouldn't waste the resources.
  11. A jock who is quick to resort to violence. Some things never change. Just kidding. I know nothing about what happened. And I likely never will. But the end result is bad news for all parties. Glad it's just a jaw. Hopefully it's live-and-learn.
  12. Last year honestly was more than I expected. I don't count August/September since those were all 4th stringers after an insane streak of injuries. The story to me is the improvements on defense. Taylor, Gallo, Farmer, Vasquez. There's a pattern and it's not just depth. The question: Have they moved on from losing their pitching coach? (And can they get a few situational hits?)
  13. In the long run, I doubt it interrupts Twins broadcasts. More likely: bankruptcy court pushes for a reorg buying Bally a couple of years to sink or swim. Or the Twins pull out of the deal and find a new home (hopefully).
  14. I'd have him focus on 2B/3B infield defense. If/when that fails, he can learn 1B or LF in the majors. I couldn't worry less about logjams in front of him. Players will slump, injuries will happen, etc, and rosters are constantly in flux. The goal is to have as many good players as possible.
  15. And, soon, more rules to keep people from "abusing" these. Seems like fixing things that aren't broke to me. If teams want to have a bad pitcher out there, why can't they?
  16. I don't put much stock in opening day rosters, since they'll already be moving players in the first week. But having 3 relievers with options left leaves them some nice room to maneuver. I'm probably wrong, but I don't think they had that wiggle room much of last year.
  17. I think people naturally associate Boras with the "rock stars." But the truth is that he works with players of all skill sets and experience. Many names listed in the article are still on rookie contracts. I am curious how many clients he has, and if it's just Boras representing players, or a team (like how law firms typically operate). It seems like he's referenced when he's some kind of monolith when I suspect he's more of a company.
  18. Huh? Why would the MLB Twins' current base stealing philosophy be relevant to how good of a prospect he is? Besides that, speed is helpful in all aspects of the game. Not just base stealing.
  19. honest question: Are minor league errors called as arbitrarily and MLB errors? I'm hearing consensus that his defense needs work so I'll believe it. But errors, at the MLB level anyway, are kind of a useless stat.
  20. I'm fine with 1-2 depth deals. If its a one year deal, you just cut them in May and pull from the minors. It's easier to stockpile arms now, and get them into playing shape, than to do so in the middle of the season.
  21. It would be cool if you put where you ranked players last year (when applicable).
