  1. I don't think any RP will help right now when the team seems to lose confidence late in games. If the team blows scoring chances and plays awful defense, the relievers will have to be perfect, and that's not realistic.
  2. I'd have gone with Buxton, Duffey and Polanco. People expect the second coming of Buxton and, myself included, get frustrated when he gets injured and takes forever to get going again after an injury. However, when he is on the field, Buxton is the most important Twin and is rarely recognized for that. He plays Gold Glove defense, has incredible speed and stings the ball when his stroke is on. Duffey has been great the last few years in the BP. Polanco is important because he (and Rosario) often carried the team during slumps. I think Polanco gets overlooked because he tends to slump towards the end of the year.
  3. I know he's not great at 3B but Sano can play there in an emergency. I see Astudillo as a 26-28th player on the roster. I expect the bench to be Cave, Arraez, Jeffers (or Garver), Gordon (for Pete's sake, give him a chance, this team could use some speed) and Rooker and Astudillo will get playing time filling in for injured players.
  4. What? Donaldson and Simmons are outstanding defenders, and Polanco is a better 2B than a SS but Sano at first is below average and Garver is average. Jeffers is an above average defensive catcher who will likely split time with Garver. Arraez is a middling defender best suited for 2B.
  5. I think the Twins FO is still primarily interested in the sluggers and strikeout pitchers but we're pretty well filled out with them and the way to improve the team is with better pitching and defense. Donaldson had a great impact on the defense, when he played, and Simmons should be even better. If the team performs well, we might resign Simmons and trade Lewis. I disagree that Simmons is comparable to Polanco offensively. Polanco isn't great for OBP but drives the ball and has more power than Simmons. Donaldson, Simmons, Jeffers and Buxton would make the Twins an above average defensive team with several possible gold glovers.
  6. Tanaka made it clear he wants to play in a big market on either coast. Minnesota doesn't fit the bill.
  7. I've thought from the end of last season that the Twins would have to bring back Odorizzi. I don't see the sense in giving up too many minor league prospects (and I don't the FO would) on a trade and I don't think the Twins can compete on the high level SPs like Bauer. I'm curious to see who will be this year's Hill and Bailey. We also need to get cracking on he bullpen. I can't believe we haven't signed Clippard yet and I hope we don't get stuck with Romo.
  8. I generally agree with the players on the list but not the order. For me, Buxton, Donaldson, Maeda and Berrios are the most important Twins. The Twins are a different team when Buxton is playing. He adds speed and world class defense, things no other Twin offers. He’s always at the top of the team WAR when he plays. Donaldson’s defense and drive make him #2 for me. The two pitchers are steady and reliable. I’d put Pineda there but he’s either suspended or injured too often. Duffey is better than the nebulous minor league pitchers.
  9. Rosario was let go and I don’t expect he’ll be back with Kiriloff taking over. I like Pineda but he gets suspended and injured too often and Maeda was much better. Look at Berrios’ numbers—he’s a clear #2 starter with the stuff to be a 1-2. Sano will never replace Cruz...he’s much too undisciplined. Any guesses what his issue will be this ST? Over weight? Visa problem? Avoidable accident? Lack of off season conditioning? Legal problems? I’d make Buxton happy and risk Sano becoming the next Ortiz.
  10. I’m not sure Baddoo qualifies as a prospect. He was supposed to have talent but never performed.
  11. The Twins farm system has been steady but not spectacular in recent years. The pitchers coming up largely end up being relievers. The big studs end up showing potential and getting injured quite a bit. The Twins need to develop a couple of stud SP. The system is also weak at 3B and, to a lesser extent at 2B. I'm not so worried about 2B because I think Arraez will be around awhile but there is nobody to replace Donaldson if he gets injured or when he leaves. I'm wondering if Lewis will move to 3B, although I was hoping the Lewis would improve the defense at SS over Polanco.
