  1. The problem with Royce is that he has not shown any improvement. Since June 1st is hitting .240/.235/.280. In 51 PAs he has not drawn a single walk and hit only a pair of doubles. In terms of OPS, he's actually regressed throughout the year.
  2. Rooker seems to be turning the corner at AAA... Look out! Including tonight's game, he's had an even 50 PA since June 1st. In those 50 PA he's struck out only 12 times, drawn 12 walks (24%), and hit .429/.540/.629!
  3. I was wondering when we were going to see this thread. I heard that a lot of the top picks will be in town this week to do physicals, sign and meet the players and coaches. Has anyone heard if that's still the case?
  4. I like Gipson. If they can teach him some secondary pitches. He gets K's and limits walks, but he has been very hittable in a weak conference.
  5. I'm assuming there will be plenty of money left to sign Holland.
  6. I was hoping for Graeme Stinson, but I like Steer. Added some power this year. OPS'd .974 in the Pac-12 this season and hit over .300 with 5 HR's in the wood bat Cape Cod league last summer.
  7. Rice pitchers scare me. They get abused and end up with TJ and/or shoulder surgery.
  8. Generally, reaching is not a good thing in a draft. Hard to argue that either of these players were BPA.
  9. Wallner struck out 17-18% in a 3rd tier college conference. Ooof. For comparison, Rooker had a marginally higher K rate in the top college conference, and hit for more power his junior season.
  10. Woof. We'll see how round three goes. So far not liking the strategy here. Reaches at both picks so far.
  11. Agree. I thought Stott should have been the pick there. Stott had nearly identical junior year numbers to Mitch Garver. Both played in the same college conference. Plus by the sound of it, Stott sounds like a plus defender at SS.
  12. I hope the Twins have a plan for the rest of the draft. Seems like a huge reach. Probably won't stick at SS and there are questions about his hit tool. Give me a plus hit tool over plus power tool any day.
  13. The problem is ownership waited too long to can the Terry Ryan brain trust. After 2012 (1 year grace period to see if 2011 was an aberration), the team and front office should have been blown up. But instead they dinked around for three years and never launched a wholesale rebuild. They acquired some high upside assets, but player development was broken and the minors lacked depth beyond the handful of high potential prospects. Several years were wasted, stuck between never wanting a complete rebuild but not having the talent and depth to compete. The new guys took over stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the on field product. The assets they inherited never quite developed as projected due to said broken development program. However those assets still have upside, so they can't just sell them as they'd be selling low. Conversely, they can't just throw money and minor league assets at contending because today that's just too steep of a hill to climb. Instead, the only real path forward is to continue to thread the needle between rebuilding and contending, treading water until "their guys" are ready to contribute.
  14. Is there a trade or something happening? I'm just not sure we needed this. Low risk, but do we really need that many utility infielders?
  15. This is ok. Just not sure if there is space for both Cron and Austin on the roster.
  16. Can't say I know much about Baldelli, other than he was a great player in MVP 2005. Great speed, defense, and some power. But hey, if Plouffe thinks he'll be a good fit, I'll take his word for it.
  17. Stewart is the second coming of Nick Blackburn. Only with better fastball.
