Thank you for this series! It's nice to take a jog down memory lane with these guys. The Twins were an AL powerhouse throughout the 60s, (I curse the Red Sox and Orioles to this day), until age and injury, and Calvin Griffith's cheapness led the team into the bleak wilderness of the 70s and early 80s.
My family made the trip from ND to the Cities for a short summer holiday in 1970, and my birthday present that year was a doubleheader against the A's on August 9th (back when doubleheaders were a regular part of the schedule)! Mincher went 5 for 7 that day, smacked a big double off of 19 year old Bert Blyleven, hit 2 taters off of Jim Kaat in the second game, and pretty much ruined my birthday present all by himself. And he was a TWIN!! How could he?!?
It's great to read these articles, and hear those names come alive again- the ones who sounded like gods on the crackly transistor from the Jamestown station in between farm reports. Ahhh, sweet memory...
Bob Allison, anyone? Rich Rollins, or Rich Reese? Ha, there are tons of 'em.
