  1. I hated to lose both him and Steer. Jeepers, I hope Mahle doesn't turn into Ernie Broglio... https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/brogler01.shtml
  2. Add me to the old school reader brigade, I keep meaning to watch the video logs when not at work, but haven't remembered to do so thus far. Nice to see a familiar name in the box today- Mike "Gulfa" Tonkin, long-time Twins AAAA pitcher. Man, he's a bulldog still plugging away, and I wish him well. (Even tho we lit him up a bit today). From Japan to DR to Mexico, to the Long Island Ducks, and now with the Braves, he's been all over the world, working hard to keep his dream alive. Hats off to him.
  3. Thank you for this series! It's nice to take a jog down memory lane with these guys. The Twins were an AL powerhouse throughout the 60s, (I curse the Red Sox and Orioles to this day), until age and injury, and Calvin Griffith's cheapness led the team into the bleak wilderness of the 70s and early 80s. My family made the trip from ND to the Cities for a short summer holiday in 1970, and my birthday present that year was a doubleheader against the A's on August 9th (back when doubleheaders were a regular part of the schedule)! Mincher went 5 for 7 that day, smacked a big double off of 19 year old Bert Blyleven, hit 2 taters off of Jim Kaat in the second game, and pretty much ruined my birthday present all by himself. And he was a TWIN!! How could he?!? It's great to read these articles, and hear those names come alive again- the ones who sounded like gods on the crackly transistor from the Jamestown station in between farm reports. Ahhh, sweet memory... Bob Allison, anyone? Rich Rollins, or Rich Reese? Ha, there are tons of 'em.
  4. I herby predict the Twinks will finally rid themselves of the BOFTY (Bend Over For The Yankees) syndrome, and also pound the Astros to win all three series. 6-3! Then get swept by the Marlins and Nats.
  5. Post script: and while I was long part of UND Rugby, I was not present on the early 80s trip with the notorious pit stop at the Rothsay Diner.
  6. I saw Dave pitch at the old Met on a handful of occasions, making the trek down from ND. Even years past his Twins tenure, if not a stop at the cafe, there was always at least a quick viewing of the Rothsay Prairie Chicken from up and down the off ramp, and I'd remark to whomever was traveling with me, "That's where Dave Goltz is from." Whether they knew of him or not.
  7. I'm fine hating them. And that god-awful park, the only one worse than the HumpDome.
  8. I like 2 + 3 you betcha! But I sure can't wait to find out their secret identities!
  9. 4-5 more runs here, and I might feel comfortable using Pagan in the 9th.
  10. We are certifiably at an Emilio Pagan Experience now, right? #EPE
  11. 10 hits, 2 runs. This is just pathetic. And Nick Gordon, what the....
  12. Well, this series should tell the tale of whether we can fight off the Tigers for 3rd this year.
  13. Not sure, but lately he seems to be looking towards the floor.
  14. Ffs, can we just leave Pagan in SD? Just maybe not tell him what time the airport bus is arriving?
  15. Interoffice memo From: Rocco <rocc-n-roll@twins.org> To: Jharel <wildthing45@twins.org> J: Next time you walk one single *** guy, I'm pulling your *** immediately. Get your *** together. R.
  16. Tyler Thornburg. You know what I'd like? I'd like to tune in to the Twinks game and not see a pitcher I've never heard of before in my life.
  17. Kinda like Urshela torching Donaldson a couple of times tonight. Only bright spot.
  18. Welp, Yanks in town, time for the Twins to roll over for that belly rub. And that head-stomping. Again. So sick of this intimidation factor deciding games before they even get on the field. So sick of the Empire blasting our X-wings out of the ether. Although it ain't exactly Skywalker leading the charge tonight...
  19. Kepler, Pagan, Thielbar, Megill. Not a fan of any of these whimps. Not anymore.
  20. What's wrong with Polanco? What's wrong with pretty much all of the Minnesota Twins? ?
