  1. It seems the Twins set the all time MLB HR record el natural....... Give them a banner to hang, what an accomplishment..... for the hitters.
  2. What's the rule on this: Braves @ Yankees: Tie game, 3-3; Top of the 7th, Runner on 1st and 3rd, 1 out. Yankees bring in Zach Britton to face Fred Freeman. After a long 12 pitch AB, Freeman draws a walk to load the bases. Britton gets ready to face Acuna and then Donaldson next. His first pitch to Acuna he forces a 'grimace of pain.' Trainers take no caution and rush right out. They determine that he is injured and needs to be replaced after facing just the one LHB. Post game: After further evaluation, no damage was done, Britton is Day to Day. There must be a clause to guard against this? TIA.
  3. It seems there is a small community that's rallying behind re-signing Pineada, Odo, AND acquiring two starters better than Berrios. Call me skeptical, I just can't realistically see the FO re-signing Odo and Pineada thinking they just locked up the back end of our rotation. Twins would do well to acquire 1 SP outside the organization that fills the top of the rotation this offseason. Slot Berrios, Odo, Pineada 2-4, and the remaining internal options battle or shuttle back and forth for the 5th spot. That rotation seems to fit well to win the AL Central again. Look to add another impact SP in June or July. I will give the FO credit in coining the phrase "impact pitching." Now acquire it.
  4. Didn’t the Twins have about a 100 point higher winning percentage on the road compared to home this season? I expected a split in NY, a split in Min and Gm5 all hands on deck. Gm 1 was our chance to split in NY. I won’t cite Baldelli not using Rogers and Romo as of yet as issues. They are our late inning guys, one of which with plenty of October experience. I think Berrios should have been brought back out to start the 5th, w/ Duffy and May ready to bridge the gap to late innings. Shoot even Graterol. But glad he got a look, experience, and confidence. He can and should be used if/when necessary.
  5. Clocks ticking, if MadBum goes, so do their attractive BP pieces. Send Brusdar/Balazovic, Lanarch and Gordon and Get Will Smith also, call it a day. If they need 1 more sweetner in the 10-30 range prospect range do it.
  6. They might want him to to complete the Inheritance Infield. Vlad, Bichette, Biggio, and Gordon. Surely Gordon has enough bat to occupy 1B.
  7. I certainly agree that the Twins pitching isn't on par w/ Houstons, or the Dodgers, and likely even NYY unless we somehow landed Max and Giles/Smith/etc. However, I think we can be less than par vs their pitching and certainly still feel confident that we can win a series vs them. B/c I do believe the Twins offense is built well for October baseball. They have beaten really good pitching this year. Twins lead the league in HR's obviously, as well as extra base hits, OPS. They are among the bottom of the league in Strikeouts (thanks for missing the first 50 games Sano). When runs are at a premium the Twins at least have a quick strike offense that boasts plenty of depth to score quickly. Bless Luis Castillo and Chriiiiiiiiistian Gooozman (Bob Casey Metrodome Flashback), but these guys don't need to string together 4 hits and BB to score 2 runs. It's Bomba Squad, and the opposing teams know the Twins still are a threat w/ only 26 outs recorded. All that being said, do whatever it takes, and lets land Max and Giles and play into November.
  8. Perhaps this is stating the obvious, I am only interested in acquiring a player(s) that help us advance in October. So a top of the rotation starter, back end of the bullpen piece. This division is flawed, likely thru 2020. No need to say more (and jinx something).
  9. Zach Wheeler is on the last year of his contract. It would be a half year rental, where I would expect the Twins to take on his very affordable salary. I would expect to pair Gonsalves w/ another top 12/10ish type prospect, maybe add another throw in in the lower levels.
  10. I don't see much movement on Gonsalves fastball or changeup. It also looks like he might really be working to get downward plane on his fastball, w/ varying degrees of success. If he is ever anything more than a AAAA SP I'd consider that a win. Can we send Gonsalves in a package of prospects to the Mets for Wheeler before the deadline?
  11. The previous regime had a tendency to stubbornly adhere to a non-working plan, and showed little imagination when it came to searching for solutions, I read this as 'non-walking plan,' which I think works too.....
  12. 10,000 Lakes is way bigger than an Ocean!!! Probably.........
  13. I'd be all but certain Little provides more value than Ynoa if we decide to buy next season also. This flip of Ynoa for Little just gives the Twins more options with both their pitching internally in 2018, and also adding value if they decide to trade for pitching.
  14. Interesting take, I'm actually blaming him for the LA series. It's not like he came in and hit a Grand Slam for the Twins (we all know how many chances there were for that to happen).
  15. This is a little off topic, but think it would still be relevant to the Twins Post Season aspirations. Has the FO said, or is there any speculation that Berrios is on an innings restriction this year? He had 170 IP last year, two thirds of those innings were in Rochester. He's currently at 123.1 this year, w/ just over two thirds of those being w/ the Twins this season. 10-11 more starts at 6-7 innings puts him at 180-195ish. Zero concern thru mid September, but what if the Twins are in the hunt in late Sept or even into Oct. Would the FO let Berrios surpass 200 IP this season?
  16. That honestly was mainly hypothetical, in how to acquire one in the next 12 months. But I'd put Archer, G Cole certainly as possible hopeful candidates. Maybe James Paxton? Trade Ervin or Dozier for one currently in the minors (ETA 2018) that projects as a top of the rotation pitcher. I guess my point was more, I don't care how they get a top of the rotation pitcher, just get one.
  17. Interesting input. Originally I am on record of saying why waste the resources on him, or Quintana or Gray. Do I think he/they would absolutely help the push now, 100%. but here is my ultimate fear in acquiring Straily (or a like #3) for multiple years. We are back in 2013-2014ish again, a bunch of not much upside pitchers blocking guys that project to be a mix of #2-4's that ultimately congest our 40 man. Time to acquire a true ace or top 20ish pitcher, whether that means via trade that involves Gordon+ or spending on a FA. Then fill in w/ the Gonslaves, Thorpes, etc (whoever we haven't traded w/ Gordon to get our #1 ) .
  18. Not to get too far away from the topic, but since the link to the Fiensand article was included in this piece, I'd just like to applaud a FO that is realistic, and w/ out exposing his cards, but can still relate to the fan base their intentions..... That I think we all would agree with, just differing of opinions on how we get there. Maybe being from Iowa I'm so used to the Kirk Ferentz (Iowa FB coach) and Terry Ryan "we are going to put our best players on the field and be as competitive as we can" mantra. It's nice to hear some fresh takes from the FO rather than the repetitive PR "we gotta play them one game at a time. I'm just happy to be here, hope I can help the ballclub" BS.
  19. Another caveat in the way it played out for the Twins, is if Enlow doesn't sign w/ the 37th pick, we lose that slot money correct? Knowing Leach would sign below slot, There's inherited risk thru the rest of the draft if Enlow is taken at 37 and doesn't sign and we lose that pool of money, obviously the assigned slot money at pick 76 was much less.
  20. I just read that out loud...... it had never really clicked before,
  21. April 4th, 2013- The Cedar Rapids Kernels launch their first season as a Minnesota Twins Affiliate. I was ecstatic to learn the news, as outside of top prospects (Mike Trout) rolling thru, there wasn't a real connection to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (the previous affiliate) for myself, or many others around town. Even more exciting the Kernels rostered one of the top prospects in the game at the time Byron Buxton. There was a nice crowd at Perfect Game Field that night, given it was in competition w/ cool overcast weather and Iowa vs Baylor in the NIT finals, but many in the crowd braved the weather and showed up to see Buxton, including myself. The future of the Minnesota Twins was right in our backyard. I remember Buxton having a hit or 2 and a SB, but the player that I came away incredibly impressed with was a 2B by the name of Jorge Polanco. His 1st AB he pulled a pitch down the line for a HR. Next AB he hit a breaking ball to left for opposite field single. 3rd AB he drilled a single right up the middle barely missing the pitcher and luckily saving the pitcher from a broken bone. The typical cliche but the ball sounded different off his bat (it did for Buxton also). 3 plate appearances and 3 Base hits sprayed to all fields. Ever since he has been one of my favorite prospects in the Twins organization. It's great to see him producing for the Twins. *** Also, after that game I ended up doing a search for Polanco (among many others on that Kernels team) to see where he/they listed on the prospect ranks, and that is what brought me to TwinsDaily.com.
