MWLfanV2's Achievements

About Me

I used to be known as MWLfan on these pages, but due to loss of memory around my password and not being able to retrieve it for some reason I needed to come up with a more creative noms de guerre. Hence the birth of MWLfanv2.

I am the same father of 2 boys named for Hall of Fame sluggers as in my past online life. I still leave at the nothern reaches of the Midwest league in Wisconsin.

My baseball life started in my backyard on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis with the neighbor kids, my cousin and my uncle who played for the Chief at the U of M. He won 2 national championships before I was born but as I grew he became connected to the Twins through Media and as a sometime batting practice pitcher. So I went along to the Met with him to soak in the world of the 1960's and early 70's Twins teams. Nirvana.

When I grew bigger I was not blessed to throw like he did, but I could hit a bit and had quick reflexes. So I found a home at 3rd base. My heros were Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Rick Renick and Greg Nettles. But my diety was Harmon Killebrew. I got to see the best hitter that my eyes ever saw during those afternoons in Bloomington, Tony Oliva. Some had more power and others like Carew could seemingly do anything with the bat, but a s a pure combination and sweetness to his swing. Tony O was the best I ever have seen in 45 plus years of baseball games.

In the 1980's in college and justout I was hired at the Metrodome as a Concession worker. I moved up to manage stands and in 1985 got to be Peter Ueberroth's private waiter for the All Star game and got to sit on the field down the 3rd base line. Awesome!!!!

By 87 and 91 I had a real job and went to the LCS and WS as a paying customer. Once again, Awesome. After 1991, my soon to be wife and I decided it would be a great idea to get season tickets. So in 1994 we splurged and went in on a package. Just in time to see Rich Becker, Pedro Munoz, Derek Parks, David McCarty and Scott Kilingenbeck. Timing is everything.

In in 1999 we had a son and named him for Henry Aaron, I was working for Harmon Autoglass and thought naming him Harmon would be too much of a suck up. Luckly in 2003 we had another and I had a new job, so I got to name him for my all time favorite player.

Then we moved deeper into Cheeseland just at the time the Twins showed up in Beloit. Now I had already made the trek to the Quad Cities to see the youngsters Morneau and Mauer. (I also got to see the Real Deal pitch!) But now it was a bit easier to get to Beliot, Cedar Rapids, Quad Cities and Clinton. So we went.

I have seen all the prospects in the Twins system come through at this point onward. Plouffe, Revere, Dozier, Vargas, Stewart, Buxton, Santana, Rosario and Sano. My faves were James Beresford and Jason Wheeler. Just like how they played, and it will always make my smile a bit brighter when they succeed.

Not sure how long I will be down here, but as long as I am here I will fit MWL baseball in my summer.
