Article: REPORT: Twins To Sign Jason Castro
Loosey replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This exact team? No. But I assume the Twins brought in Falvey and Levine to take the young core of this team and add pieces necessary to make them a contender in 3 years, hopefully less. How they use those core pieces is mostly up to them. Some may become assets used to get new core pieces and some will become mainstays that help them win. So to answer your question, yes I see them contending in 3 years.- 223 replies

Article: REPORT: Twins To Sign Jason Castro
Loosey replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here is possibly a dumb question I have. Now that a lot has been made of Castro's pitch framing ability, are umpires going to take notice and squeeze him a bit on those borderline outside pitches? I hope they wouldn't try to guess, but if they know Castro can basically expand the zone by 2 inces (that's a random guess by me, I have no idea if it is actually 1 centimeter or 1 foot) will they call it ball now knowing he has that ability, taking away his biggest strength?- 223 replies

Article: Turning Trevor May Into Andrew Miller
Loosey replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think it is as simple as let's just make May be Andrew Miller. If it were this way every team would deploy a hard throwing reliever in the same way the Indians used Miller. Miller is incredibly talented and has a pitch that is a true "out" pitch. At any given time he can throw it, and throw it where he wants to. It is nearly unhittable. Trevor May does not have that, 95% of the pitchers don't have that. Trevor May showed 2 months worth of being very good relief pitcher in 2015, then go hurt, then spent most of 2016 struggling and getting hurt. I think he needs to be starter or at least be given a chance to prove he can be a starter or a chance to fail as a starter. -

That reminds me, we are now less than 2 months away from the annual "Mauer feels the best he has in years" article. I can't wait. I wonder what he worked on this offseason, strength? Agility? Quickness? Oh Boy! I can't wait!- 33 replies

Article: How Much Can The Twins Spend On A Catcher?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would be fine with Willians Astudillo as a backup to whomever. I would think he could be signed to a minor league contract then be backup until Garver is ready to be the backup, or vice versa. -
Article: How Much Can The Twins Spend On A Catcher?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If this were truly what players cared about no stuggling team would ever be able to sign a good free agent. Money talks a lot. $30M dollars (to play baseball) probably would get me to forget or not care that the team I signed with has averaged 68 wins a year the last 6 years. -
I can see more changes being made next off-season. I assume Falvey and Levine know a bit about the coaching staff/front office, but have not really seen them in action. If incumbents who are staying go about their routines the same way they have in the past and get the same results I assume they will not be here long.

Article: Cody's 2016 Twins Offseason Blueprint
Loosey replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My argument against signing Plouffe again is stated in your first sentence: "Breaking news... The Twins aren't going to win the World Series in 2017." Plouffe is a solid middle of the road 3rd baseman, but is not needed on a 103 loss team. The market for him will be low level prospect if he is traded. On top of that he takes playing time from players the Twins need to see on a daily basis.- 36 replies

Really of all the moves Maddon made the only one I would 2nd guess is Chapman's usage in game 6. Pulling Hendrick makes sense if he has a gut feeling that he could implode at any moment. (I know a bad call against a Twins pitcher in a key situation usually resulted in the next hitter immediately hitting a bomb). So moving from Hendrick to Lester was alright in my mind. Then an errant throw and a fluky 2 run wild pitch. The safety squeeze call was actually a good one in my opinion. Baez seems to have that Buxton quality of chasing strike three breaking balls out of the zone and getting him to square up at least sets him up to hopefully putting ball into play. It just didn't work.

IF, big IF, he comes back healthy in a year or two Teddy Bridgewater could be added to this list. He is only 23, if he comes back he will be around 25. However, he is could also never play a snap again. I would lump him in toward the back end based on first 2 seasons of play. But man, this pre-season he looked pretty stellar until his leg folded in half.

Article: 40-Man Roster Decisions: The Hitters
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Considering Grossman was released by the Indians this year already. I assume Falvey had some sort of say in that decision. So based on that, his terrible defense and his known ceiling and floor I am going to guess he is left off the 40 man. I think he is the sort of player that fits the mold of a deep bench bat for team already set with known quality veteran OFer's who needs a guy who can hit lefties when asked and play the field as little as possible. The Twins need to use their roster spots on youth to see who can make a long-term impact on the team.- 37 replies

Article: 40-Man Roster Decisions: The Pitchers
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So in theory could the Twins DFA Hughes? If someone else picks him up great for the Twins and him. But if he passes through waivers they go to AAA. Hughes could then be added back in Spring Training after they move guys around. Basically it's more of a clerical DFA? No one will pick him up, at his contract and injury.- 43 replies

Article: How Did Cleveland Acquire Its Top Talent?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins won't need 8 years. They hopefully have most of the offense in place that will lead this team. We need him to use his past experience to find the pitching staff the team needs to make any sort of progress. -

Article: Ninth Wonder: What To Do At Closer?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The "Save" stat is about as useless the "Win" stat in my opinion. Let say it's a tie game with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the 7th or 8th inning. You bring in a reliever who strikes out the first guy and then induces a lazy grounder on the next. Now you're out of the jam. If your team scores 3 runs in the 8th to take a 3 run lead, your "closer" gets to come in in the 9th inning and get save if he gives up less than 3 runs. I think the 7th inning guy was more important in that scenario. But Saves are sexy to some I guess.- 63 replies

Article: Ninth Wonder: What To Do At Closer?
Loosey replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins had taken a step last year for or even a slight step back from 2015 (not the enormous one) I would be on board with backing a dump truck of money up to a high end reliever like a Chapman or Jansen. However, the Twins would essentially be wasting money on those two as leads were rare for this team. As bad as the bullpen was, they didn't even have the chance to blow many leads. They did create bigger deficits to overcome, but that wouldn't be a good use of resources to bring in guys to hold 2 run deficits steady vs. 2 run leads. But it's not my money.- 63 replies

Five years from Today. He won't be drafted until next June and then gets 2 months there. Then I don't think it's unreasonable to think he will be in the minors 2018,2019,2020. Looking back at my math its bad. But 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 if he needs to refine secondary stuff more 2021. Five years.

Article: Get To Know: Twins RHP Tyler Benninghoff
Loosey replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like when teams can get top 3 round ability in the 11th round. He will have a tough road in front of him but its a gamble that has little risk for the Twins. And he will be able to have professional trainers helping him recover from an injury. - Good Luck. -
I like Greene at #1 for a few reasons: 1) He seems to have the potential to be a true #1 starter with electric stuff. 2) He is young and hopefully will get much better than he already is and more refined 3) He is probably 5 years away from seeing time in the Majors - So 2021 or 2022 is when he would make his debut. Which (if things work out the way we hope for the Twins) will be around the time when perennial all-stars Sano, Buxton, Berrios will be approaching free agency. Also if the Twins are winning they won't be getting high picks so timing Greene with possibility of losing an all-star will be a nice timing for reloading instead of rebuilding.
