  1. I'd take Ben Cherington, but my biggest fear is that the Twins will hire a President of Baseball Ops, and they leave Rob with his current job on a full time status.
  2. It's kind of amazing how similar Altuve and Dozier's numbers are up to this point (Games/Plate Appearances/2B/3B/BB%). Dozier has 16 more HR's, but Altuve has 51 more singles (which almost mirrors the additional number of strikeouts Dozier has (Dozier has 43 more K's). Their RBI numbers mirror at 91 as well (I'm pretty sure Altuve hits third, but for some unknown reason, Jacque Jones Dozier is still leading off). With the .346/.409 AVG/OBP, I'd be hard-pressed to not give the Silver Slugger to Altuve (especially considering the more balanced season-long stats), but I really want Dozier get win... Give Altuve the MVP.
  3. I'm still hopeful this is part of the growing process. If I had to guess, he's finding out some flaws in his hitting approach and trying to fix them at the plate. Like syndes said. You fix a swing in practice, at the plate should be muscle memory. Guys like this (and maybe Berrios) are just seeing their first major hurdle, and need to adjust. Hopefully, once the mechanical fixes are in, the results will show......
  4. I'm not smart enough to know the answer to this, but I've always wondered about the generation of speed based upon the relative weight transfer in contrast to leg drive off the rubber. It would seem to me that higher rear leg drive would actually kill the natural downward plane of the pitch vs. the general action created by weight transfer down hill.
  5. I'd rather have Delmon Young back playing center field working his magic on the hibachi and informing patrons of his personal dislikes......
  6. "Dereck Rodriguez was tagged with the loss in his Fort Myers debut, despite 7.0 innings of one hit ball. He gave up two runs, walked two, and struck out six." Anybody know what's clicking for this guy? Since mid July he's been on a tear.
  7. Maybe not overcome his current problem; but maybe to build a little confidence that he's in the right place over here and he can hit in the US. Then attack the real problem.
  8. The Twins teaching over aggressiveness at the plate is one of the few things I never thought I would hear a complaint about (I'm not arguing with your point).
  9. I'm most concerned with the Pohlad's making Antony's decisions for him at the deadline [shudder].
  10. For the sake of my kids and marriage, I've cut back about 60%. I can't handle the rage/depression switching. It's brutal. I wish I had a better word.
  11. Polanco down; free Beresford......seriously, what's that guy got to do to get a cup of coffee this year?
  12. Buxton's floor is a slightly below average hitting gold glove outfielder. He's not going anywhere, anytime soon. Unlike Gomez and Ortiz, all the stuff I've seen is that he's a humble kid who takes instruction. Let him get kicked around at AAA and let's see what he's doing by July. Sometimes you have to fail to see how to succeed (or some other motivational speech like that). My call: .280 average, 10-15 homers, and gold glove caliber defense in two years (2018 all the way.......................................................
  13. Um, Seth, when you make the trip to the great white North, you're supposed to tell us in advance so that we may mob you during your public appearance....or just say hi.
  14. I'm curious. The OP wrote another opinion piece on Vikings Journal "hating to break things to us" about NORV! under the blog title "Minnesota Groan". Any opinions on the Wild? Especially ones that state someone isn't working hard? I don't think many (if anyone) likes the Mauer contract. But had they not paid him close to market value to retain him, the fan base would have revolted. The only question now is whether he plays well enough this season to keep his spot instead of paying him to DH or ride the pine. If he remains a sub .280 hitter with a lowered on-base percentage, and keeps the starting spot, then I'll start asking questions.
  15. Check out the chops on the tall Bethel player leaning on the dugout fence in the background...how did that guy's facial hair not get drafted?
  16. I wouldn't bat Sano third, ever. Rationale: http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17/795946/optimizing-your-lineup-by The Twins didn't waste money here. This is a flyer on a 3 M per year deal (discount the posting fee entirely, it's a sunk cost, like Jason Marquis). Basically, you've paid this guy Nick Blackburn money, and if he ends up in AAA, it's not a big deal. Big upside moves for low cost = good work.
  17. I like the numbers, but do we know anything about the opponents' swing percentage on out-of-zone pitches? I thought this was a percentage that reduced through the minor leagues and into the majors?
  18. I would normally suggest the time honored Minor League Spring Training Tryout, if he goes elsewhere, meh, but I'm being very honest when I say I couldn't help myself from keeping him on the 25 if I was the manager.....full on homer mode activated.....
  19. I can see how you want a high contact/walk player, but the bench isn't one guy. Here you have an absolute masher....that's a switch hitter (with okay splits....just okay, but still). You can have both guys on this type of a bench. For the love of all that's holy, please give this guy the call. He might suck again, but Hermann for Buxton (I'm not against PH for Buxton in that spot, but HERMANN????????).
  20. In former Twins minor league news, as of last week when he was released from the Rochester roster, Nate Hanson has The suspense is killing me
  21. Perhaps his value to the organization (to combine thoughts with Halfchest) begins with the protection he is afforded with the future line up. If Buxton, Dozier, ABW, Sano are your starting four, he'd get some pretty solid pitches, and his defense has to be better than Young-Willingham-Arcia. I don't know if I'd dump a guy in a trade who has that kind of power potential.....Adam Dunn looked good when he was protected in a line up.
  22. Count me in on asking some more follow up on this one. I'm not saying Kepler is going to burn it all down, but I'm not sold on minor league home runs as being indicative of major league power development, especially with a uber-development player like Kepler. Brian Dozier (while likely a statistical outlier) hit 7 home runs in 311 AA at bats (22 Doubles/7 Triples). In 323 at bats, Kepler has 6 Hr/25 doubles/9 triples). Arcia at AA 262:20/510. I have to run to a meeting, but I would also compare the K/W ration....stupid meetings..
