Article: Give Alex Meyer A Chance To Start
SweetOne69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Meyer was brought up to fill a need for fresh arms in the bullpen due to the 16 inning game on Sunday. While I agree that he should've been the first call on Monday when Milone again faltered in the 5th inning. That was really the only opportunity to put him in since he has been called up. If Berrios is too amped up tonight and can't find the strike zone and has an early exit, I expect Meyer to be the first guy called in from the BP. -

Article: Which Hitter Will The Twins Call Up?
SweetOne69 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are a few complaints on here about the lack of a plan that "forced" the team to carry 14 pitchers. With E. Santana being pushed back to to a stiff back, the plan was to call up Duffey to pitch on Sunday on send him back down after the game. With D. Santana set to come of the DL on Monday they optioned Polanco to bring in Duffey and were planning to do a Duffey/D. Santana swap after the game. 2 things happened that changed that plan. First, Duffey got hit by a line drive and can't be optioned until it is determined that he is healthy enough to pitch his next turn. Second, the game went 16 innings and several of or BP arms will be unavailable for the entire Cleveland series. The 2 unexpected events that occurred on the same day forced this dilemma. They'll get down to 13 pitchers once it is determined whether Santana needs to go on the DL and/or Duffey is deemed healthy enough to be sent down. They'll get back to 12 when Plouffe gets activated next week.- 52 replies

True, but it also doesn't hurt to wait 1 more day either.

So in other words, we lost our 3rd catcher for nothing.

There are 2 reasons why Duffey hasn't been sent down. First, they are waiting to be sure that Santana will be able to take is turn on Friday. Which will be probably be determined if he does a BP session tomorrow. Second, they have to make sure Duffey is only hurt and not injured. They can't demote an injured player (would have to DL him).

Article: Game Thread: Twins@Orioles 4/4 2:05P
SweetOne69 replied to Riverbrian's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I believe that the Twins request to start the season on the road. The try to push the home opener back as far as possible hoping for warmer weather. Of course it really is moot as MLB tries to get every teams home opener completed within the first 7-10 days of the season anyway. -
Article: May’s Mentality Much Needed In Pen
SweetOne69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
According to Fangraphs May throws a Fastball, Slider, Curve and Change. It looks like his FB% stays pretty constant whether he starts or relieves. He pretty much abandoned the slider in the pen, but there was a slight increase in the curve and change. -

The only reason to NOT have Santana be the Opening Day starter is if you want him to start the Home Opener. -
Article: The Twins' Next Hall Of Famer
SweetOne69 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Puckett's WS wins has very little to do with why he got into the HOF. If that was the case, Jack Morris would've got in as well. Puckett was one of the best players of his time even without the WS wins.- 80 replies

Article: The Twins' Next Hall Of Famer
SweetOne69 replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here is a snippet I found from a 2010 hof article: The choice of which team logo appears on a player’s plaque is the Museum’s decision, though the wishes of an inductee are always considered. As the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is a history museum, it is important that the logo be emblematic of where the player made his greatest impact. A player’s election to the Hall of Fame, however, is a career achievement. As such, every team for whom he played is listed on the plaque.- 80 replies

The player doesn't have a choice on which "hat" he wears in the hall. That is decided by MLB/Cooperstown.- 80 replies

Article: Tendering Casey Fien: Pros And Cons
SweetOne69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A player cannot decline a tender. He is under team control and his only option is to play for the team that owns his rights. The only way he becomes a FA is if the team decides to not tender him. -
Back in the day when there were only 2 divisions per league, it made sense to only have the division winners make the post season. But when they expanded and went to 3 divisions per league, it required at least 1 WC team. It wouldn't have be right to have a team get a buy when the play series and not just games. But this took away the importance of winning the division as you only had to be 1 of the top 4 teams in the league (for the most part) to make the postseason. By adding the 2 WC and a 1 game playoff it brings back the importance of winning the division.

Article: Trevor May Is Thriving In The Bullpen
SweetOne69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Even in your scenario only 1 of 3 is true. The original quote was the Pelfrey would be gone, Nolasco released and Milone not picked up (Basically all 3 would become FA at the end of the season). We agree that only Pelfrey will be a FA at seasons end. I never said that Nolasco and Milone would be here opening day. While I would prefer that the Twins' work out a trade for Nolasco (even if they have to pay part of his salary), Milone is the more tradeable asset. Milone is a decent left handed pitcher that is under team control for 2 more years. -
Article: Trevor May Is Thriving In The Bullpen
SweetOne69 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Only 1 of these 3 is true. Pelfrey will be gone. The Twins' are NOT going to eat $25M and dump Nolasco. They are definitely going to offer Milone Arbitration, he may get traded in the offseason but they aren't going to give him away for nothing by letting him become a FA. -

That's the trick, giving the "regulars" enough time off to keep them "fresh" and giving the "bench" players enough ABs to keep them from getting "rusty".- 41 replies

Article: Sano Among Three Twins Optioned Monday
SweetOne69 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, if a player on the 40-man roster gets hurt while at the MLB camp (i.e. before being optioned) he can't be optioned until he is healthy. So if he is out for the year he would accrue ML service time as well as a rookie salary for a year. For example, if Sano would've been on the 40-man roster last year, the Twins would've been forced to place him on the the 60 day DL and he would've accrued 1 year of service time and been paid the MLB minimum salary.- 9 replies

Article: Sano Ain't Harmon
SweetOne69 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Harmon was a stickler regarding autographs. He felt that if you are going to take the time to sign something for a fan, your signature should be legible. Morneau worked on his signature to make it legible due to Killebrew's influence. This is one thing that is going to be sorely missed due to his passing.- 38 replies
