  1. Raise your hand if you thought this winter we'd be arguing over whether or not the 2019 Twins would reach 100 wins. Anyone?
  2. Remember, Graterol was pulled from his last start due to tightness in his neck. Would make no sense to do that and then have his next start be his MLB debut. And Poppen's 14 walks in 19 innings at AA have me less than convinced that he's ready. We've got a strong top four in the rotation, but there's little depth that's immediately available.
  3. Unrelated to Booker, but the Honorable Mentions ranking flips Gonsalves and Gordon from where they were originally ranked.
  4. How well does Nick Anderson have to pitch before he gets a little prospect love? Since switching from starting to relieving, he's been ridiculous at every level. Can't find out anything about his stuff out there.
  5. I've seen it mentioned a couple of times that Kinley would have to clear waivers before a trade could be worked out. The rules aren't terribly clear on that, but seem to suggest that he would need to clear waivers only if being offered back to Miami, but not for a trade to keep him. Does anyone have a source that clarifies? Since we know that teams can trade Rule 5 picks to another team without passing him through waivers, wouldn't it follow that they could make a trade with Miami without that hindrance?
  6. Of course, it was Graterol's birthday, too. (You get a birthday! You get a birthday!) Mine, also. But I had a lousy day on the mound, so...
  7. He threw more change ups in five innings than he did in pretty much his entire season last year. Do you think hitters don't figure that out and sit on a pitch a guy is working on? Spring training isn't about stat lines - not for the vets.
  8. What's amazing about the Ft. Myers game is that none of their seven runs came off a hit. All the runs scored as a result of bases-loaded walks, wild pitches with runners on third, or ground outs. They were 0-fer with RISP, but still scored seven runs.
  9. John Ryan Murphy was struggling, with a horrible May. In June, however, he's slashing .288/.350/.462. I wouldn't describe him as struggling.
  10. When you have a prized rookie, with a lot of expectations on his shoulders, and you're asking him to make a transition to a new position, one that he may or may not be comfortable with, one where he's going to have some growing pains, maybe even some embarrassing ones...wouldn't you want to give him the courtesy of letting him make some mistakes outside of the glare of the spotlight? Maybe stashing him far from prying eyes and internet chatterbugs is the best thing for his development.
  11. Remember that the TwinsCentric pieces are posted first in the StarTribune. Although I am constantly warned not to read the comments there, I do occasionally (for laughs), and they were chock full of people doing exactly what Nick was saying.
  12. Finally having those great in-house options? Seriously, none of those leaders would have been ready to plug in at the start of this major league season.
  13. Regarding Stewart (I can't seem to quote on the mobile site ), remember Mat Batts' piece here recently. He said that the minors are more about process than results. Development trumps stats, in other words. Stewart is only a few years out of high school. Let him develop.
  14. Oliveros was out righted earlier this year and every other team passed on him. This tells me that no other team values him either.
  15. I'm not buying the Twins for two reasons. One, I don't think the Pohlads are selling and, two, if they were, I don't have the hundreds of millions of dollars they would be asking.
  16. If the Mock Draft is tonight, as the lead paragraph states, when's the real one?;-)
  17. I stand by my assertion, as there's plenty of evidence for it on this thread and others.
  18. Thank you, Doc. I think we're so spoiled by the "on-demand internet" and the 24-hour news cycle that it's easy to look at the current situation and, if it can't help me this week, then to heck with it. Everyone's infatuated with Pinto's bat now, but look back at his minor league career, and he wasn't exactly a sure-fire prospect. He had some pretty brutal seasons offensively.
  19. One thing that confuses me - they sent Vargas down to get some work in during the short NL trip and two days off. OK, I can accept that. But he hasn't played in any of the three games so far. I understand not being able to play Sunday, but why wasn't he in the lineup either game yesterday?
  20. I see that Chih-Wei Hu is being sent to Rochester to make a spot start for the Red Wings tonight. Should be fun to see how he fares!
