  1. mr front-page news in the washington post: Eddie Rosario, who defines himself by big moments, emerges as the Braves’ postseason star https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/10/23/eddie-rosario-braves-postseason-star/
  2. i agree with the pay him/sign him crowd. HOWEVER! how can he have zero triples over the last two years and 101 games?!?!
  3. my ‘60s experience was somewhat different, ashbury. it was ALL about ripping open that 5-cent pack and rifling through the five minty-fresh cards in hope of finding killebrew, oliva, tovar or the ever-elusive mudcat grant — and the unique thrill when it actually happened. i do agree that it had nothing to do with asset appreciation. but i’d like to think that today’s 10-year-old kid can still find total satisfaction in seeking a similar needle-in-a-haystack thrill.
  4. i'm glad they did it. nothing like a great shortstop, and gambling $10.5 million of someone else's money is fun. could be a rollicking summer if things work out. but one thing sticks out on that 10-minute highlight clip: he doesn't smile. is he even having fun when he makes all those spectacular plays? sure hope so.
  5. i've been too busy to pay much attention to the twins this season, which had me bummed until today. turns out it was a major-league blessing in disguise.
  6. al worthington was another 40-something. oddly, baseball reference says his last game was 10/2/69 (40 years/239 days). but he also pitched four days later (10/6/69) in the season-ending alcs loss to baltimore. wonder if others on this list are shortchanged a few days regarding post-season appearances.
  7. maybe so (and not saying i would have done differently in allan's shoes). but, according to legend, ted williams faced a similar choice and insisted on playing instead of sitting on his .400 and backing into the batting title. uninspiring versus very cool. just sayin.
  8. allan anderson skipped his last start to win the ’88 era title — not exactly a profile in courage.
  9. yikes -- six twins among top 15 AL MVP candidates for 1965 (mudcat 6, battey 10, jimmie hall 13, harmon 15).
  10. a great site. i’ve long sniffed out typos for a significant portion of my living — and in my mind, the dramatic decrease over the years reflects an impressive and ongoing increase in professionalism. no need to go elsewhere for all things twins. long live twins daily!
  11. solution: save brusdar for the postseason, where his 18-per-9-innings strikeout ratio and 0.00 era versus the yankees will finally get the twins past the first round.
  12. if the twins could get their hands on a shut-down playoff pitcher like anibal sanchez i’m sure they’d never let go.
