Twins 2018 Minor League Hitter Of The Year
slash129 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It would be fun if they save #47 for him at the big league level. Not sure if Andrei Kirilenko would sue.- 23 replies

For the record, I didn't like the opener concept, but now I just don't care. I guess getting outs = getting outs. But also, for the record, I've gotten to a point, especially this season, where I'm not going by wins vs losses as success. I go by wins + losses where the tying run is at the plate at the end vs. all other losses. Lowering the bar is an easy way to find satisfaction.

I agree, but I doubt they want to mess with his routine at this point. The routines of the new guys are all fluid as they take their looks.

Randy Dobnak has got to be one the better under the radar stories in the system. Going from undrafted to being the Kernels workhorse in a very successful season for that team, despite the moving parts, is fun to see. Gardenhire knows he can ask him to go seven, open or come in when someone else has a short outing. Baddoo has had a good season too, but Dobnak is probably their MVP.

Hmm ... That's a major gap .... Obviously, the two sites have some different calculations into what constitutes a line drive.

I would expect earlier next year if the Twins are competing, and this production level continues with decent gains on the defensive side of the ball. Otherwise, mid-April 2020 ... see Bryant, Acuna, Jr. (and soon to be Guerrero, Jr. and Jimenez).

I'm not sure where you got the 24% number, but Fangraphs is showing 16.4% for Line Drives. He does seem to have a good approach and good control of the strike zone, but perhaps some work on swing mechanics would result in better output. From a layman's perspective, he seems to pop the ball up way to much. I'm a Kepler fan and am hopeful that he's a slow burn to being a part of the long term solution. He's still just 25 and younger than any of the OF that are currently with the Twins.

Rewarding mediocrity ... That sounds like a great plan. Coddling is for 2nd grade house leaguers not million dollar pros.

I don't think grouping Johnny Field with Gimenez and Petit is necessarily fair. Sure, he was a Rays castoff and doesn't represent one of our beloved system MiLBers, but he' still a 26 yo rookie. He hasn't done much in his audition, but then neither did Niko Goodrum last year. Looking at Field's AAA numbers, he seems to have faired better at that level than darlings Lamonte Wade and Nick Gordon are ATM. I'm not saying that Field is the next godsend, but, once you get past names, he fits more into the type of player that you want to evaluate during September than the group of retreads that are being mentioned otherwise. Duffy is more of a retread, and Anderson is almost two years older.

Alex won't be lining up in CF anytime soon. He's even acknowledged that he's still working hard to improve his defense.

The CBA is what it is. It's fair to dislike parts of it, and I think the players have the short end of the stick. It's in place though, so I have no problem with the FO acting within the rules. It goes both ways. If I typically vote against politicians who support entitlement programs, and they get elected anyway and push the programs. Well, I would be stupid not to sign up and collect on everything that I legally qualified to collect.

Gonsalves (as well as every other pitcher) did get squeezed in this one, but he still wasn't very good otherwise. I'm not impressed with his stuff at all. Depending on the health status of Mejia and Pineda next season, I wouldn't put Gonsalves any higher than 7th or 8th in the rotation pecking order. I certainly wouldn't consider his opportunity as a reason to not sign a free agent starter in the off-season.- 23 replies

I also heard that Spahn and Marichal would walk 20 miles barefoot - uphill - both ways - to and from the ballpark before and after each start. Kids these days.- 6 comments

You know how the season is going when almost a third of the posts are about players who didn't even play in the game that was recapped in the OP. Impressive afternoon from the bullpen. Rogers is looking like a real weapon against lefties late in the game.

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Closing Time
slash129 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see a lot of people are in May's corner for said role. With his mix of pitches, I could see him being the extinguisher type that then goes on to pitch 1-2 more innings. I hope Molitor can open up his mind on bullpen use. Perhaps an offseason exercise of watching Milwaukee games would be of benefit. -

Gotta go Belisle with a three year extension.
