  1. Like martinis shaken, not stirred, dead horses should be beaten, not whipped.
  2. Only two off-speed pitches to play off a not-so-fastball? Not worried. Sandy Koufax had only two pitches, and had an OK career.
  3. Come-from-behind wins like this balance out the come-from-ahead losses that didn't have to happen -- like against Cleveland on Sunday and the Miami game we were ahead 4-1 in the 9th and lost in extras. Meantime, I predict a Detroit victory today over the Indians, and should the Rays beat the Dodgers that would put Cleveland behind the 8-ball in the wild card race.
  4. Assist, I believe. And my 2 cents: Last night's game was the second most fun I've had this year. That is all.
  5. Good win. Overcame adversity. Now I'm hoping the series finale on Sunday is a laugher. We haven't won a game easy since Detroit two weeks ago.
  6. As EE sauntered to the plate, I turned to my wife and said, "I don't like this. He knows he's going yard." And so did Perez and every Twins player and every fan in the stands and at home watching telly. Let's be clear: Like Chuck Norris, EE grinds his coffee with his teeth and boils the water with his own rage. I'd walk him every time there's men on base.
  7. Nice win, and given the way the season's gone, even the nailbiting last inning was enjoyable. Cabrera's laugh at Schoop fanning his glove after catching the scalding drive for the last out ... priceless! Baseball is the best sport.
  8. We kept scoring and clogging the basepaths, so Rays bats had added pressure every inning. Me likey.
  9. Yep. I muttered "ball game" on that play. The baseball gods favored the Brew Crew over the Grain Belters this fine Memorial Day.
  10. There's certainly one 1-0 game Twins fans remember going on three decades now.
  11. Golly, not to brag or anything, but I coined that saying in a lede for an AP story on a Big Sky basketball game in 1991. It was picked up by West Coast TV guys in a hurry, then was an ESPN catch phrase that spring and summer. It became the team version of Ric Flair's signature saying, "To be the man, ya gotta beat the man!" I still get royalties, by the way.
  12. Said a couple times to my wife that very thing. They look like they're having fun, and they look confident. Never had that look last year.
  13. And if you drop the tray and the ice cubes shatter, that would be breaking news.
  14. Well, if we can't get more pitching, Cruz can come in handy for more runs.
